Around SBN: How The Kings Beat The Coyotes: Lather, Rinse, Repeat

Just talked to Vince Young. He thanked Titans fans and said he was sad about decision. Also said he never felt like Fisher trusted him. "I thank Bud Adams and Jeff Fisher for giving me a chance to win the Super Bowl. I tried my best, I really did. I am bitter a little bit, because I’ll miss the guys . From the trainers to the janitors, I appreciated everyone there. I have nothing against Jeff Fisher. I just wish he would have trusted me a little more. That was the only issue. I didn’t feel like (Jeff) trusted me. In the five years I was there, I was always looking over my shoulder. I feel like (Jeff) was continuing to treat me like I was a young man when I'd really grown up a whole lotI didn’t feel like I was his guy all the way. I put in a lot of work and my stats and my winning, it showed I had grown. Everything was my fault. But that’s over now . I wish Coach Fisher and Bud Adams and all my coaches and teammates best. I will continue to keep working. Wherever I go I will be committed like I am committed to everything."

Series of tweets from Jim Wyatt. If only he'd given a statement like this a month ago.

Too little, too late, he’s in for a hard career if he thinks no one is gonna be looking over his shoulder wherever he ends up. He made his bed, now he’s got to lie in it. It didn’t have to be this way, but it is what it is now.

I really Iam disappointed that it had to end this way. It was a fun ride these past five years and you gave me some great memories and thrills. I wish you the best of luck and will cheer for you except when youre playing our Titans. I think highl yof you, but I love my team and passion more. Go Titans! Hook Em Vince!

I really did love Vince.

And I hope for the best for him. I do hope he takes a step back from all this when some of the hurt feelings are gone and realize that respect is never given in the NFL—it’s earned.

Not saying they’re WORTH a Top 10 pick, but could and probably will go in the Top 10 based on need and the premium on QB.

This is going to have to be widely debated.

If the top QBs are gone, we need to go defense first and QB later. In a later round, or next year. I don’t think you want to pick a QB just for the sake of picking a QB. But its hard to pass up on the most important position.

Depends on how you define a top QB

The Titans might have Cam Newton higher than Ryan Mallett on their board, it all varies team by team. It’s going to be interesting to see where they lean for the #8 pick

But I don’t want another project QB that needs an overhaul on his mechanics and the like. Cam will be picked by somebody but I hope not by us, at least not early on.

Best case scenario

Vince gets to stop “looking over his soulder” and pointing fingers, same for Fisher.

He’s got a lot left to prove, especially to other teams in the league, who he hopes to play for.

He certainly had his moments, The OT run against the Texans, Rookie of the year, The comeback against the Giants, His 6-2 record last year highlighted by the 99 yard drive against the Cards. As well as some decent moments before it all went down hill this year.

For Vince’s sake I hope he does prove us wrong, but I won’t be holding my breath for it.

at least that’s my guess. Oakland is another option. If he wakes up and smells the coffee, he’ll be OK. If not, he’s still a rich son of a gun.

Favre is done, and even if he wasn't, I wouldn't want anything to do with him at this point in his career.

Of the above, Orton isn’t the sexy pick but he could be a nice stop-gap, game manager type while a rookie was groomed.

I’m all for grabbing a rookie in the first round and throwing them into the fire, recent history has worked out well for guys like Ryan and Flacco, and the common denominator for those guys was a solid O-line and good running game. Same situation could happen here.

Wonder how quick he'll be picked up in free agency?

Things for other teams to consider that could hamper how quick he’s picked up:
1) Injury prone – Quad in 2007, Knee in 2008, Hamstring/Knee/Thumb this year
2) Mental stability – Suicide Watch 2008 (carried over to 2009), this year’s meltdown, and don’t forget he almost considered retiring after his rookie year
3) Developement – This might be the least considered because he had a fairly successful 2010 campaign until he went on IR

But he has his positives too, he improved as a passer this year and can make plays on the run. I think he’ll be picked up quickly but not as quick as others will.

by WinnipegTitanFan13 on Jan 5, 2011 9:21 PM CST up reply actions

Peter King is pretty in tune with the news of the league.

I was just on SI now and I found this for us:

According to one team source, Young had about four or five players in the Titans locker room who remained loyal to him and took his side in his highly publicized showdown with Fisher. The rest believed the team needed to cut ties with Young, and if it hadn’t, there would have resulted in a line of players at Reinfeldt’s door requesting an offseason trade.

It is reasonable and everything we pretty much knew all ready.

Pretty telling that other quote you have down below where the players themselves were frustrated that he was not stepping up as a leader and doing what THEY expected of their starting QB.

I would still love to have a completely open conversation with some players and get their full opinion on Young, Fisher and that whole dynamic. For now we’re going to get politically correct answers and (obviously) everyone speaking highly of both.

Well the 3 games they qouted

CJ is the one who came across as the most supportive

Witherspoon comments said There’s a part of me that wishes I could have maintained the opportunity to continue to play with Vince and see him become the quarterback I believe he can become in the future, but this was a business decision and Mr. Adams made the decision that he felt was best for the franchise. I’m sure Mr. Adams felt like he’s got to do what’s best for the team

Break that down a bit in that he said “see him become the quarterback I believe he can become in the furture” VY is already 1/3 into his career. When does the future come and NO one (myself included) has never said he didn’t have potential. He just isn’t doing it.

And Jone’s comments said he is surprised it was this fast. So meaning he expected something like this. When the overall header of the Acticle is miss-leading because the surprise is in different forms

A source told me the vast majority of Titans players had grown frustrated with Young’s repeated maturity issues, and he still hadn’t progressed to the point where he could seamlessly call plays in the huddle, or commit himself to the work and preparation required of an NFL starting quarterback. Adams was made aware of how widespread the rest of the locker room felt hamstrung and held back by Young’s lack of development.

Good point

Not sure Vince fits the Belichick mold (he wouldn’t be able to withstand the mental beatings) but going along with your line of thought, what about the Saints? Payton’s coming off a Super Bowl. Drew Brees is outstanding and going nowhere anytime soon. I don’t think Vince will go there simply because he’d rather play for a crappy team than be a backup for a good team, but perhaps it would be a good career move to learn under Payton and Brees. There’s a lot of offensive talent there too.

are three obvious places. A insane, unmotivated Vince Young is probably an upgrade to what they have in those places.

Others:

Miami: though I don’t think he’d fit in with the organization, but they could run wild-cat with him at the starting QB if they dared.

Washington: Shanny would never pick him up after hearing how bad he was from his best friend Fisher or would he look at Rex Grossman and call Tom Condon.

Seattle: Hasselbeck’s probably out after this season leaving you with Whitehurst, You would think Carroll would look at Leinart, but after dissing Taylor Mays last season for a Texas guy the future is bound to repeat itself.

Why Buffalo?

Fitz has played well. Will Bailey want BY over a Harvard guy?

I think it will be funny if he goes to a big market team

and sees how the media and fans react to him on/off field. Nashville is a small market team and the media is fair and not overbearing. Hope he finds out what Eli, Sanchez, and McNabb in Philly went through. McNabb went to 5 NFC championships and that city couldn’t wait for him to leave. I think he is in for a rude awakening.

Tough town. Philly ain’t no place for Vince.

Nice statement, but, my sympathies are limited

It’s the NFL.

You’re always looking over your shoulder. Get used to it. Put in the work to be as good as you can possibly be, cause there’s always another guy. Put in the work and you’ll earn some trust; don’t just get it for being who you are. People give you trust when they see you’re committed to them – being good but half-assing and considering yourself special, doesn’t get it.

A TOAS TO VINCE YOUNG

CHAMPAGNE TO MY REAL FRIENDS….REAL PAIN TO MY SHAM FRIENDS

I hope you do go to the Jags so you can get plastered by CAPTAIN MORGAN and complain and cry and throw a fit.

that is all.

Vince Young needs to go to a place where they don't boo

In other words he should petition to get back his lost year of eligibility and go play for the Longhorns next year. They certainly could use the help.

Is that you Vince?

Fisher might get the axe as well. Only half way through the week and Bud hasn’t said either way if he keeping him or not.

by TitansFan4life on Jan 5, 2011 11:08 PM CST up reply actions

I was thinking the same thing

I was also thinking how much more often we MCMers seem to right as a group.

For instance:
1. Who said Nick Harper was done?
2. Ditto for Chris Hope.
3. Who said that Jeff Fisher and Vince couldn’t work together weeks ago?
4. Who said we should have kept Blount?
5. Who doesn’t understand why Donnie Nickey is on the roster?
6. Who said you should have picked up the phone and to call Kevin Mawae and Keith Bulluck?
7. Who said play Jared Cook?

There is probably more

"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

Plenty of stuff we (collectivecly) have been wrong on too

draft pick criticisms for guys that turned out to be pretty good, players they cut that we thought they were nuts to cut and were out of the NFL shorty thereafter, win-loss season predictions resulting in pants having to be pooped in, etc.

be honest...how many of you actually thought CJ was the best pick for the titans?

I was not happy at all with that pick.

At the time you had White who had rushed for over 1,000 and just used a high pick on Chris Henry the year before.

…and that is why I am not the GM.

I was furious about the pick.

I wanted to take a receiver.

I hated the pick.

Thought it was a waste of first rounder since we really didn’t have a need in that position plus he reminded me a bit of Chris Henry.

My younger brother actually called that the Titans would take CJ in a mock draft he did. It was clearly a guess but I was nonetheless impressed.

damn im sad to see VY go

he was actually one of my favorite players on the team
i dont really like any of the qbs in this draft aside from Luck, who we wont get so id rather go for a temporary solution at qb like mcnabb and then address qb next year

by ericjh2 on Jan 6, 2011 1:49 AM CST reply actions

My synopsis:

Obviously, something is VERY VERY wrong with Vunce if a couple guys saying stuff would make Bud bail.

That’s all.

BTW

Vunce’s record against teams that are .500 or better?

13-14.

Yep.

by BadV6Blazer on Jan 6, 2011 4:27 AM CST reply actions

I wish I was in a position where I could smack his head and knock some sense into it.

He is wasting some special talent there. Damn you VY. I love the QB you should have a become!

by Los Blancos Chicca on Jan 6, 2011 9:48 AM CST reply actions

Fact is VY gave us the best chance to win our record with him is far better than without KC has been washed up since oakland had one fluck year what we need to worry about is that the players who support VY R the best players who cares what anyone on D thinks they need to do their own jobs (get off the field on 3rd down) CJ will hold out for sure now Britt has been in the doghouse as much as VY But Fishers favorite guys R, Donnie Nickey, KC, C. Hope & J.Gage….what a group…..i hope VY gets a shot with an offensive mind who wont handcuff him as fisher and dinger have done if u trust Dusty Smith more than VY i think JF should have his head examined. but this is what we have to look forward too…..geez i guess i better get a brown bag

Are you guys kidding me?

Cam is nothing like Vince,no side arm, much bigger/solid, kind of reminds me of Josh Freeman(fast/mobile, yet very hard to bring down once you got a hold of him) and he’s developing quite well in TB. Sometimes it makes me wonder, have you guys even seen him play or are yall making assumptions that he’s a run first, pass second QB like VY. I’d liek to have Cam but we should def hold our criticisms of him and other QBs until at least the senior bowl or combine.
