Open Letter to MCM (yes ALL of you)

Now that this painful season is done for, can we lay the warzone to rest? I followed this blog every day as Titan in WV, then later linked it to my FB and went with WV Titan. Once upon a time I started commenting more frequently instead of just lurking and it felt damn good to be a part of the community that exists here. I will be honest though, other than a few joking posts this season I have been nearly afraid to post.

There will always be heated discussions and debates on any community site. Sports are even worse for it. But I saw a low of ugly things here this season. It even got so bad that our leader had to call a short lived moratroium on comments over some issues. How sad is it when things get so bad we are asked not to even talk about them anymore. Originally it was mostly the trolls and usual suspects that were dragging things down here, but then I started seeing the usuals and even the staff jumping into the fray.

I got to the point where I wanted to be part of the community but couldn't because I didn't want to post my opinion or try to justify, logically or otherwise, my viewpoint on things because even the people on here I admired most were cutting people down as fast as they could post. I read comments from hal, gramsey and even Adub where they were just as bad as some of the trolls for cutting down other's opinions. I don't mean to lay blame on any of them, especially since for the most part I agreed with what they were saying, I was just shocked that our staff and "Hall of Fame" members were down in the gutters with everyone else. I kind of expected more civility from the guys I look at like MCM Legends. I typed up posts many times and then just deleted them rather than making a comment because I worried that if I said something that was disagreeable it wouldn't turn into a debate but just escalate immediately into a warzone.

This is still by far the BEST place on the web to be if you are a Titan's fan bar none. I am not trying to criticize the site or any of the contributors. Especially not the guys I mentioned. I just used them to illustrate a point because they are kind of the MCM elite and I put a lot of weight in their opinions. When it gets to the point that a would be contributor is afraid to post because of the responses he is seeing across the board from normally level headed fellow fans though it isn't a good sign.

My one request this offseason? Be a Titans fan. I don't really care if you side with VY or Fish. I don't really care who you want to be the next coach if we do in fact end up with a new one. What I care about is having a place to come share in the misery of defeat or cheer in celebration with like-minded fans. A place where I can discuss the shortcomings of the gameplan or exult in the new innovations (I know I shouldn't have went there).

There are no fans better than Titans fans. Period. There are going to be disagreements and debates. It happens, but please remember that no matter how much you disagree, the person on the other side of that post is also a Titans fan who hopefully wants what is best for the team just like you do. The thing is we all have a different view of what that is. Debate all you want but please stop the bullshit fighting with each other, the juvenile name calling, and realize that just because someone's opinion is different than yours does not give you an excuse or a reason to ridicule that person or treat them like trash.

We are Titans fans. We should be better than that.

It got to the point where posting seemed pointless unless u wanted to spend an hour defending urself.

Love the site. Hate the drama that the season became.

Sadly, I don't think enough people are reading this.

If you’ve hopped on the comments this afternoon. Granted, I haven’t exactly been completely neutral but I try to at least be reasonable and admit when I have flawed arguments. If we could at least have our opinions but be reasonable about them and entitle each to their own…well that’d just be ideal.

I know what you’re talking about, I get caught up in it too and it sucks but this is one of those seasons we’ll never forget for all the wrong reasons, tensions are high.

even so, it’s getting hostile around here but every time someone tries to post something, it somehow leads back to a certain controversy. that needs to stop.

Kudos, WV Titan.

I have to say that is one of the best posts I’ve read here in a while. I love this site, too, but I laid low for a while myself when things got so out of hand. Finally, I just decided to say my peace as respectfully as I could and move on. I hope that we all can take something positive away from this post and just generally treat one another a lot better, regardless of whether or not we share the same opinions.

What? A girl can't like AND understand football?

I don't comment too terrible much either

Mostly because I’m generally more into college football. But the Titans are still my NFL team and I want them to do well. I have my own thoughts on Fisher and Young of course, but the arguments have been hashed out so much I’m not sure there’s any need for more discussions about it outside of providing new news about the situation (and certainly discussing that). I’m not saying we shouldn’t discuss things if we have strong opinions about them – I just get tired of them devolving into this 1 same back and forth argument.

Thanks for singing give peace a chance. Emotions won’t cool down until the internal issues are settled. This site like the fan base as a whole is split. Once a decision is made some fans are going to be happy, others will be quite upset.

I felt very much as you did… I would type up comments and then erase. Although I don’t blame one of VY/Fisher over the other, I would hesitate to comment.

Anyways, I wrote a similar comment in one of the posts, where I said we shouldn’t forget who we are and why we are here. In the end, if both go or neither, or one or the other go, the majority will be cheering in two-tone blue. And that shouldn’t be forgotten.

On another note, I had a lot of fun regardless of the loss on Sunday. There was a handfull of Titans fans in a sea of Colts Blue, but most of the people I encountered were nice! I made a sign that read “From Canada, For CJ#28”, it was a conversation starter, I don’t think CJ noticed it though!

I hear ya....

But this is a man’s sport. If you want to be cuddled go watch figure skating. Mybe we could be more civil to one another but this is my hometown team. I take each loss to heart. I’m tired of this organization getting a pass to be retarded. We should stop focusing on ripping each other a new one and concentrate on voicing our displeaseure with the direction the team is taking
