The Official Crazy Ideas for New Coaches thread.

So Fisher is gone, a new era is about to begin.  Who will be our new head coach?  Of course, there's the boring possibilities that we have already seen as possibilities: Gruden, Cowher, Munchak.

That's not what I'm looking for here.  Instead, in this post, let's get creative.

Star-divide

Post the wackiest, weirdest ideas for our new coaching staff that you can come up with that the media isn't already reporting.

And then we can all argue discuss the various ideas until we come to the best least awful possibility.

The only rule: these must be theoretically possible.  We can't steal another NFL team's OC or DC to be our OC or DC, the other team would have to give permission.  However, we can steal an OC or DC to be our head coach, because it would be a promotion.

I'll start with 2 my co-worker and I came up with today.  Warning, these may turn your hair white or cause your meat thermometer to pop:

1. Promote Heimerdinger to HC.  Hire Texas co-OC/RB coach and former Texas QB Major Applewhite as OC. (or even HC, if 'Dinger's health won't allow HC duties).

2. Former Texas Tech HC Mike Leach as HC (or again, promote 'Dinger and make Leach OC).

But last-second comebacks on Hail Mary plays are bad for my blood pressure.

Maybe we’d get used to it, since it seems to happen to his teams every game?

Would it really be that different from the McNair-led Titans?

It seemed every single game that era came down to either a game-winning TD or FG, or the defense having a game-winning last stand or INT. I’m pretty sure I went into cardiac arrest at least fifty-two times watching those games.

Please not Mike Leach...

The guy doesn’t have the system for the NFL. He is a good college coach. But he won’t survive in the pros

I wonder if LenDale White should get back on the tequila...

CFL head coach Marc Trestman

Wiki that guy. he put together big offenses in NFL hell holes like Detroit, Oakland, and Arizona and has been to the Grey Cup all 3 years as a CFL head coach, winning the last 2.

Yup, I'm on board with this.

Dude’s had a lot of success in the NFL already too, as an OC and various positional coaches. I like where your head’s at, Hal.

some 38 year old dude

(this guy)

named Anthony Calvillo had this stat line as a starting qb this year:

380-562(67.6%), 4,839 yards 32 TDS 7INTs

in fact, go here and look at the huge jump his stats took over the last 3 seasons when Trestman showed up. cuz QBs ALWAYS play their best ball @ 35+

A few things to note here.

1) The CFL sked is 18 games.
2) The CFL is built around throwing the ball, so that inflates the stats a bit.
3) Anthony Calvillo, the guy in the pic above, was a great QB before Trestman got there. In fact, both Calvillo and the Alouettes (his team) were very strong before Trestman arrived. Calvillo is one of the best QBs in CFL history.

That said, Trestman is an oustanding coach. Two straight championships and three appearances in three years is very impressive.

Calvillo's stats

still made a substantial jump at an unusual age when Trestman showed up. And I realize the CFL is goofy, but he has a ton of NFL experience before going there to get a shot at being a head coach. we need a guy who can make the passing game work, and I think he’s definitely the man for the job.

In fact, I’m afraid we might. :-(

I realize this is supposed to be the "crazy" thread but I wholeheartedly endorse Marc Trestman

The man is an outstanding head coach. He is an outstanding offensive tactician and is probably the most professional, mature coach in the league. I have a ton of respect for him, and that’s coming from a guy whose team gets smoked by Trestman’s twice a year. He is well-respected among his peers in both the CFL and NFL. He is also the guy who worked with Tebow last year on improving his throwing motion. I would love for the Titans to hire Trestman.

Bring in Bobby Bowden

Get Jeff Bowden to be OC and Terry Bowden to be DC. Fill in the rest of the staff with younger, unqualified coaches who are in some way related to Bobby. If there aren’t enough bring in the family friends like Chuck Amato and Jody Allen. It threw FSU into a spell of mediocrity for about 10 years imagine what it could do for us!!

by fsucj2431 on Jan 28, 2011 8:49 PM CST reply actions

This is a crazy idea

But maybe we could bring in Randy Moss. He played for the Pats and Vikes last season and then disappeared from the face of the earth. Maybe he decided to be a coach during those several weeks of isolation…

Oh yeah. We had him…

16 dvided by 2 equals 8. 8 divided by 2 is 4. At this rate, we will have the first pick in the 2014 draft!

by MikeGriffFan27 on Jan 29, 2011 10:02 AM CST reply actions

no kidding..

May not be a crazy idea after all. I remember Belichick once made the statement that Moss was one of the smartest players he ever coached, found that article below.

• “Everyone was picking on (Randy) Moss last year for not running hard routes. Why do you think (Bill) Belichick called him one of the smartest players he ever coached? You know why, right? He’s there for one reason and one reason only. When a defense is dumb enough to play single-man coverage with no help, that is when he runs hard — he knows they are throwing to him those eight times a game. When it is not single coverage, he jogs off the line and does not finish his route. It’s that plain and simple. When Randy is singled, he runs hard, he goes up top and makes plays. If he is doubled, they take (Wes) Welker low, coming across, or look for the tight end. You can coach that.”

…and they say Belichick is a smart coach!

Moss, WR coach? hmmmmmm, imagine the possibilities.
Not sure he is done yet tho, did he not take out both Cromartie and Revis last season? just not with the titans. Oh yea, the Pats and Vikings. and his off field crapola mouth should not factor into his elite talent. I’m sure some ppl will not agree, but i really do not care. There are very few WR’s out there that has an elite record that does not have a mouth or ego, maybe not Fitzgerald, but Moss is greater than Fitz too, …. so thats my take on your crazy idea. From what i see and read, he is always preaching and teaching anyway, why not put it to good use.

.

OH YEA
This is gonna be a fun ride

One trick is to tell em stories that don't go anywhere - like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.....
