Jason Babin Talks to MCM About Jeff Fisher's Firing
Jason Babin is awesome. I had his email from an earlier attempt to do an interview that never really worked out, so tonight when I heard the news about Jeff Fisher I shot him an email asking if he would do an interview. I didn't expect him to respond since he is Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, but he sent me an email telling me to call him. He had just gotten back from a tour of the USS Chung-Hoon.
Where were you when you heard the news?
Getting ready to go on this tour. I was like hey guys, is it true, is it real? We looked it up online here in the lobby, trying to find out what the deal was. We are kind of cut off from the rest of the world here. We couldn't get any closure on the story.
What was you reaction when you found it was true?
I was in shock- wondering what is going on here. I thought every thing was squared away. Looking for a D coordinator. Now we are looking for a head coach, a D coordinator and a D line coach.
The crazy thing is Babin was actually asking me about the details because he hadn't been able to get much information about it.
It has been a crazy offseason so far losing your poisition coach, your coordinator and now your head coach. Make is tough, doesn't it?
Exactly. I think the biggest thing for us is what is going to happen here. I am assuming everything is official here with Jeff leaving. I still don't know why or how come.
Babin went on to say that things are especially tough for him because he is a free agent so there are a lot of moving parts.
I then asked him if he liked playing for Fisher
Yeah. When I first went in his office in free agency, we talked briefly about football, but he knew my resume at that point. We put our boots up on the table and talked about hunting and fishing.
I asked him about being a free agent, and if he could negotiate with the Titans even with the uncertainty with the CBA:
Yeah. I am a free agent, but they have exclusive rights if they want to give me a new contract. They haven't wanted to discuss it. No, my agent said we are not going to knock on the door trying. If you guys want to do a deal let's do a deal. We don't want to wait until 11:59 PM March 4th and them be like "Here's a deal." If you like me, and you like my services let's get a deal done.
I asked him if he was enjoying the whole Pro Bowl experience in Hawaii:
Oh yeah. The boys (his kids) are wearing me out- at the pool, at the beach, at the pool, at the beach..I think tomorrow we are doing surfing lessons on the North Shore. It's a good vacation.
Thanks again to Jason for agreeing to do this.
Babin is very active on Twitter. You should follow him @JasonBabin93.

I hope we keep him...
I think he’s just going to get better, and he’s already a pro-bowler!

Wow, just wow about Fisher being fired
Babin was not able to shed much light on the subject, it sounds like he was caught off guard like the rest of us. I appreciate that he communicated what he could about it though.
I really hope the new head coach will be able to hit the ground running and make it a respectable season. It is going to take someone special to be able to pull a franchise in chaos together.
Its going to be sad to see him leave. I really hope Reinfeldt can work something out with him
but Babin was a big fan of Fisher and Washburn, so I’m not sure how much he’ll want to come back to a rebuilding team with new coaches.

He'll only stay for mucho Denero now
The line coach who gave him a career year is gone, and the coach who’s style benefitted him the most is gone.
He’ll want mega money to stay, in a situation that is chaotic at best at this point.
