Mel Kiper: Titans 3rd Highest on the Kevin Kolb Best Fit List
Mel Kiper looked at the 5 teams (In$ider) that would be the best fit if the Philadelphia Eagles decided to trade Kevin Kolb, and he has the Titans 3rd on the list. I have spent a lot of time thinking about the Titans QB situation lately, and the more I think about it the more I really hope they go after a guy in the draft or Kolb at the right price. Sure the best thing for Jeff Fisher is to bring in a guy he can plug in and be decent in 2011 to give him a shot at making the playoffs, but that really isn't what is best for the franchise long term.
Kiper talks about how the Titans wouldn't be desperate to add Kolb because they aren't without any options at QB, which is very debatable, but I do agree with the last line:
It's not enough to make me trade away that No. 8 pick, but if they could get Philly to go for a deal based around the No. 39 pick, maybe they have something.
The problem with that is the price for Kolb is more than likely going to be a lot higher than a 2nd round pick, but if the Titans were somehow able to swing that deal I would be a lot more excited about it than bringing in one of the re-tread guys we have already discusses or spending the #8 pick on a QB.

Orton is a wet rag.
He’s always won games, and still he’s never caught on anywhere. That says enough for me.

Doesn't mean he couldn't do well here while
we develop a long term QB. Goal is not to make Orton the “franchise QB”

If we trade a first or even second round pick for Kolb I am going to explode with rage
I really don’t see what would warrant that kind of price tag at all.
Un-VINCEable
Likewise.
Kolb isn’t worth a first or second round pick. Not even close.

I'm ok with a second for Kolb
Take a QB at #39, take Andy Dalton, that person is still less proven than Kevin Kolb.

Kolb is overrated
the only reason he had 250 a game is because he threw the ball 37 times a game proof is in the game log kerry colins could throw for 250 if he threw it 37 times
If it's a second and no other picks I'd sign off on it
Kolb has had a lot of time with a coach who knows how to spot and develop QBs. He’s had some up and down performances, but he’s got skills. If he had a better deep ball I’d be more excited about him.

Cards would probably give up something big.
I could see Whisenhunt being desperate enough to trade a 1st or more to get Kolb.

Kevin kolb looked not very good to me in the few games I saw. Just as bad as Kerry collins. Mind as well draft aj green then when we have a worse record next year draft a qb. I don’t know anything about Andrew luck, but everyone says he will be a good pro

I'm starting to lean towards the
draft a QB in 2012 too. Concentrate on the defense this offseason, manage any trades so you get extras in 2012 to move up. Also adjust the OL and give the new configuration a year to gel before putting a rookie behind it.
by numbertenox on Jan 15, 2011 11:17 PM CST up reply actions
I Say
The way I see it, devote the # 8 pick to defense, and the 39 pick to qb. The only thing we would have to sure up is the Oline.
I trust Dinger and Fish to find the best option at 39, Dalton, Kolb, Orton, Mallet, Newton, Stanzi, Locker, I do not care…find me someone who can hand off to CJ and throw to kenny…
Now on the note of developing qbs, I despise when people say (Insert name here will take 3 years to develop)
Sanchez, Rothlesberger, Flacco, all went to a min. of the AFC Championship game as rookies, VY who is the most raw talent to come in in a while won the ROY and won games.
If you can play, well take ya, if you cant, no thanks…
Thats my 2 cents.
Yeah if you pick the right guy, it could pay off right now and later
The QBs who I think could come in a play now are Dalton and Mallet. I still wouldn’t take either at 8.

Agreed
I just don’t think any of the QBs available are worth the #8 pick, though there are plenty I would be satisfied with at #39. I’m scared of seeing Mallett out there unless our O-line improves, but I doubt he’d still be available at 39 anyway.

Kolb has accomplished nothing and shown nothing.
He has the same inflated stats that Orton had this year. A ton of attempts gets you some yards.

I would be willing to swap first rounders and give up the 2nd for him, but to trad out of the first round entirely seems a bit of a stretch for this guy
I’m an early bird and a night owl. So I’m wise and I have worms.
BOOM! You've been pharmacisted!
I don't think Kolb is the right guy for this system
We saw first hand that his deep ball is a duck in our home stadium. We don’t have to give a first round pick to see a QB throwing ducks when we all ready have Kerry Collins. One thing further Kolb has a had a grand total of 6 starts is his career so he’s more seasoned, but barely more experienced than any rookie we might draft. His stats are not overly impressive: he has 10 touchdowns and 15 turnovers (11 ints and 4 fumbles). Whoever gives up a first round pick for this guy is stupid, plus whatever else they might want. Furthermore the market should be set by the recent trades for QBs, in other words 2 number 2 picks for McNabb, a 2nd round pick for Matt Cassell, and two number 2s for Matt Shaub.
MCM's First Best Player Available FanBoy!
Those stats are pretty telling.
At this point, the guy seems like he’s all hype. He went in the 2nd round, and now they probably want a 1st for someone who has more INTs than TDs in 6 starts? No thanks.
"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

maybe it could work
after all – he who controls the underneath route controls the game – but I’m really not feeling giving up any picks for someone who won’t be here long term.
Get 'em.
