A Bronco Fans Asks: Do the Titans want Kyle Orton?

Multiple sources have reported that the Denver Broncos' FO are putting Kyle Orton on the trading block (no surprise), and are demanding at least a 2nd round pick for compensation. Would the Titans give that up?

Over at the SBNation site of the Broncos (MileHighReport) there is no consensus on whether or not we will end up getting a 2nd round pick for Orton. Frankly, my opinion is that his current worth is a mid-3rd rounder. But some believe that there will be a small bidding war for Orton's services, and that though the initial offerings would be low round picks, that eventually one team would step up and be willing to to give up their 2nd-rounder to get him. They cite the numerous teams that need a QB, believe they can compete with a competent QB in the near future, and don't necessarily want to take the risk on a 1st round pick on Locker/Mallet/Others and have to wait as their window closes while the QB grows. Those teams would include the VikingsCardinalsTitansDolphins, and maybe a team like the Niners (being in such a weak division). They also believe that there's a chance a team who wants a young QB would also want a veteran while their QB is being groomed, and those teams include the PanthersBengals, and Bills, especially with Orton only being under a one year contract.

Star-divide

The argument for us falling short of a 2nd round pick, and settling for something like a 4th or a 5th, is that although there is a large contingent of teams that could use a proven QB now, there is also plenty of options for QBs not coming out of the draft. Vince YoungKevin Kolb, and Donovan McNabb can all be cited as other possibilities for those teams previously mentioned instead of Orton. Not to mention that those teams might choose to take a rookie QB instead.

Both sides have valid arguments in my opinion, and before I keep boring you with Bronco-related material, I'll pose the obvious question. Do you want the Titans to trade a 2nd round pick for Kyle Orton?

If you're one of those Titans fans that's unfamiliar with Orton, here's his statline (13 games started)

QB Rating: 87.5, 3653 yards, 20 TDs, 9 INTs, and a completion percentage of 58.1% on 1952 attempts.

To be honest, Kyle Orton was never well received in Denver, although there was a good minority who always liked him. This is most due to the fact that Orton is not that flashy, sexy QB that most fans clamor for at the position. He will usually not be the reason you win the game, but he takes pride in making sure that he's never the reason you lose. He simply never got his feet wet in Denver, after being brought in as the replacement for Jay Cutler the fans/media never really gave him a chance. Add on the drafting of Tebow this year, the fans were constantly campaigning for the benching of Orton, even though he led the league in yards for a good proportion of the year. But Orton can play, he can lead a winning team, and he can make a lot of plays. No matter what team he plays for next year, I can almost guarantee he'll simply put up Top 10-Top 20 QB production. I think it's important to note he had most of his success this year with the complete lack of a running game, and many speculate that he played through some games knowing that if Tebow touched the starting field, it would be tough for him to win his job back.

Strengths: Accurate, Great Leader, Accuracy and ability to throw deep, Goes through his progressions well, He Protects the Football, Very Quiet and just goes about business, Consistently makes the right decisions

Weaknesses: Lack of mobility, Has trouble throwing under pressure, His small amount of picks seems to come at the wrong time

Thanks and good luck on the upcoming season and 2011 draft!

There's no way I would give a second for Orton.

It’s obvious that Tebow is the Bronco’s future. Why pay a second round pick when say McNabb goes to free agency for free?

I can't believe you posted this crap!

Kyle Orton is Jeff Fisher at QB. Gets more credit for his job than he deserves and dissappears in the big game. They both excel at being mediocre so it could be a match made in purgatory…..

NOOOOOOOOOO!

I hate Kyle Orton. Most of his stats came in garbage time, he lacks leadership and, his comments after our game were hilariously stupid.

If some teams pays a 2nd round pick for this guy, John Elway should be sending that organization monthly gift baskets.

So you're using our game and extrapolating it to the whole season?

How does that make sense? The Broncos were involved in plenty of blowouts- many of which resulted in Orton gaining a lot of passing yards when the other team had already secured the game.

meh, not saying he's the greatest QB of all time

but he would be perfect as a veteran “stop-gap” while TN rebuilds @ QB. Unless of course you prefer KC….

At this point

I can honestly say I would prefer Kerry Collins. At least Collins sucks all the time and doesn’t whine like a titty baby.

Wrong

Kerry has balls. Orton doesn’t. Kerry plays through a jacked-up finger or two. Orton would cry and tell CJ to run the ball 50 times cuz he doesn’t want to hurt himself

I know I'm in the minority here

but I would like to see Orton on the Titans next year. I’m not so sure about a 2nd round pick, but I think he would fit in well with our team.

Am I missing something

Other than calling us dirty, did he do something else? Everyone keeps acting like he’s a bigger baby than VY. Serious, did I miss something? I’ll admit, I don’t know much about his off field personality.

by Gas-House Gorilla on Jan 12, 2011 9:10 PM CST up reply actions

he complains about every defense that hits him hard

Steelers, Titans, etc.

the way he said it just put him as PE#1 on my list: “I don’t think they’re tough; I think they’re cheap.”

And he really isn't good enough to be talking like that.

If he was Brees/Rivers/Manningish and bitched like that, no problem.

But he’s not.

Question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who with our 2nd pick could we get that would make a bigger impact this coming year then Orton?

by white02slpss on Jan 13, 2011 2:59 AM CST reply actions

Bruce Carter. Jurrell Casey. Rahim Moore. Hell maybe Ryan Mallet.

Maybe it's my Google

But I couldn’t find any stats or anything proving that they can make an impact at the NFL level.

The sarcasm in my question may have been missed, but what I was trying to get at is that NO draft pick is a proven at the NFL level. Orton has proven that he can produce at the NFL level and when it’s all said and done He may just be our best option to win in 2011.

Because we know we need a QB and if you look at the list of QB’s who are avail then you need to grade them out and ask yourself. Where does Orton grade out compared to what is avail?

It’s realistic to say he grades out better than any potetial 2nd round pick.

With that Said.. I highly doubt it would be a 2nd round straight swap.

As of now it's a moot discussion anyways.

Seeing as no one can trade players with CBA stuff up in the air. If that was worked out…no way would I give anything more than a fourth-rounder for him.

Future ghostwriter of Jeff Fisher's autobiography, "Moustache Ride: A True Story of Love, Lies and Betrayal".

We've had five-game losing streaks for twelve years now...and in no way is that depressing.

If I know nothing else about Kyle Orton

It’s that he definitely does not ‘Just Win’, and I need that in a quaterback.

Seriously though, he averaging 38 attempts per game, good for 3rd in the league. Ranked 10th in total attempts, and probably would’ve been higher if he played the last 3 games of the season. He was very very involved in the Broncos offense. So why did they only win 4 games? Yes I know, their defense was crap, but the Broncos only scored less then 20 points in 8/13 games with Orton. This is a completely made up stat, but in my opinion, it’s the offense’s job to put 20 points on the board, and the defenses’s job to hold the opposing team under 20. If Orton were a free agent, then I would be all for pulling the trigger. But a 2nd round pick is too high.

Also, is it wrong for me to not like babies playing under center?

My last two signatures were about Vince Young and Rusty Smith. I'm sure as hell not giving Collins room down here. So this will be my signature until the Titans show me something signature worthy.

But I digress, GO TITANS!

is not that bad.i think we can do better though

I'll take him

I know everyone is scared of having another “whiner” at QB but I think everyone is over blowing it about him calling us dirty. Get over it. If he helps us win who cares?

I’d be all for Neil O’Donnell returning from his mom’s living room if that helped us win games.

That being said, anyone like Matt Flynn?
