Haynesworth: Why this trade could be seen from a mile away.
Many of you heard the news that the Washington Redskins have decided to open up talks for trading Albert Haynesworth back to the Titans. Many of you have formed your own opinions on that, of course.
Some of you applaud it, others see how he behaved with the Redskins and think he's now too much trouble/money to sign back.
But... most people aren't getting the full picture. Let's recap how this whole ordeal unfolded.
Albert Haynesworth, going into the offseason, wanted a ridiculous amount of money to stay on our team. Let's face it, this guy is FAR from being a rookie, so he can't be so easily excused for being so greedy.
He also tried to use his vetency and high position on the team as leverage to get a huge financial boost, probably at the request of his agent. That's the way they do things. It's the business of sports contracts.
The Titans don't bite, and try to negotiate Haynesworth into a reasonable amount of money. Haynesworth and his agent have their minds set on getting the big bucks. So, the Redskins swoop in, seeing the value this guy presents to their less-than-stellar defense, and give him a literal boatload of money.
A 100 million dollar contract. Now, the Titans didn't bite with Haynesworth's hardballing, but Haynesworth sure did bite with the huge money Washington was dangling from a hook.
He should've realized that no organization would throw that money at someone unless they were desperate. But Haynesworth and his agent had dollar signs blinding them.
Haynesworth goes in, and soon finds himself in the middle of a team that is completely overhauling their coaching staff and front office. Rebuilding, if you will. The 100 million contract disappears. The front office reels in the hook that Haynesworth's in, and he's caught.
Albert, of course, reacts like any player that just got bamboozled out of a ton of money: Begins to avoid training camp and the conditioning tests. This is equal to a fish caught on a hook trying to swim back out to the water. This, of course, turned up useless.
He finally got forced into doing the test, which he failed with flying colors. Whether this was intentional, or Haynesworth just being his size, we'll never know.
What we will know, however, is that Haynesworth and the new Redskins coach had the same relationship as the guy Blount knocked out in college and Blount. One delivered a cheap-shot to the other, and both got along about as well as anyone would expect.
The coach specifically said to him, according to ESPN, that "You're not going to get the same leeway from as me other coachs gave you." Considering we're talking about Haynesworth, that translates to "Around here, you're not going to get the same freedom that Fisher gave you."
And this is basically the coach saying "If you don't like the way I run things, go back to Tennessee."
Not to mention the coach was planning to have Albert Haynesworth as a 2nd-stringer until he decided to 'commit' to the strict way the Redskins did things.
This meant the coach was giving Albert two choices: Stay and commit to the Redskins and follow the strict rules, or go back to Tennessee where you're comfortable.
Haynesworth made his decision. He wants to be traded back to the Titans. He wants to escape back into the place he knew. And of course, their coach is basically saying "Alright, if that's your decision, so be it."
Considering he's won two Superbowls in his career, he probably knows what he's doing.
Regardless, Haynesworth just fits the Titans' coaching staff better than the Redskins', and their orginization knew this.
At the end of the day, sure, it comes down to a lot of things whether Haynesworth will be a Titan or not. But at least now you know why, if you followed Haynesworth any after he left the team, you could have seen this coming a mile away.

Surprising indeed.
Maybe once more people vote we’ll get some no’s.
Or maybe not.

I just threw in a No.
Though I’m more neutral. If we get him fine, but I’m happy with our d-line at the moment. If its for a fourth rounder, I’ll be more excited I guess.
The only QB from the 2006 draft class still on his original team is Vince Young.

What about this disappearing $100 million contract?
He’s already been paid almost $60mil of it no? And,
Haynesworth made his decision. He wants to be traded back to the Titans. He wants to escape back into the place he knew. And of course, their coach is basically saying “Alright, if that’s your decision, so be it.”
Where are you getting this from? Did you call him?
Apparently you haven't been following this at all.
If you were, you wouldn’t be asking. But, since apparently you’re too lazy to look for yourself, I’ll answer.
He’s already been paid almost $60mil of it no?
The overhaul of Redskins management happened this off-season. Haynesworth arrived there last off-season. Therefore, of course he already got paid part of his contract.
Where are you getting this from? Did you call him?
No, I followed stories and news pieces about him after he left the team. And that’s exactly what happened. And sorry, I didn’t decide to keep links and references over the course of the year about every single piece I read that lead me to that in anticipation of some stranger eventually pointlessly questioning where I got my information on a blog post. Just letting you know, just in case you decide to ask for ‘references’ or stuff to ‘back up’ what I’m saying.
Seriously though, I could say something about the way watermelons are made and you’d still find a way to start a debate out of it.

You said "the $100 million contract disappears."
but that doesn’t make any sense. He still has it.
Again, you haven't been following him after he left the team.
The Skins front office has been trying EVERYTHING to lose the 100 million dollar contract, and this trade is definitely part of it.

And I mainly meant that figuratively. Apparently you didn't catch the whole 'fish caught on a hook' theme.
The 100 million contract disappears. The front office reels in the hook that Haynesworth’s in, and he’s caught.

this was a quote that i agreed with back on draft day when hanyesworth was being talked about
“we were not dumb to let him walk but we would be stupid not to take him back if the price is right” I think it was SuperHorn
*ahem* I believe what I said was:
“We were smart to let him go, but we’d be dumb not to take him back if he’s available for the right price.”
Superhorn… sheesh
But anyway… yeah that’s still my opinion. I think a 3rd rounder would be the right price.
I apologize
I stand corrected I agree with theologic

Either Way
I do think that the organization should do it. a 3rd rounder and something later in the draft and a more fearsome front four? sounds like a decent trade off!
Our current d-line + Haynesworth + Washburn=
some very scared QBs and perplexed O-coordinators.
That's What's Up!
That would be a great sight for Titans fans. i just hope that, if the price is right to get him back, that we pull the trigger and get big Al back to where he belongs. would instantly bring more credibility to our secondary that was less than stellar last year.
this is weird to say about Haynesworth....
but in my mind “he adds depth” to our line…haha
He also gives us insurance in case Jason Jones goes down with an injury. Plus if everyone is healthy…wow.
Ehh?
Apparently you missed what the saying means. The trade talks were here. I’m saying you could see the trade talks coming way before they even got here.

wait he should be less greedy than a rookie? huh?
shouldnt a guy whos proven something be MORE greedy than some kid from college trying to prove he belongs?
You guys act like you've had your heads kicked in...
oh wait…that’s big Al’s specialty…I guess ya’ll know how I voted.

Did he say anything that was incorrect?
I didn’t think so.
Haynesworth is a lowlife piece of shit. And titansfan4ever has a right to dislike him for that.

Being likable isn't a requirement to play defensive tackle.
Just because he’s a “lowlife piece of shit” doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take him.

The Murderer gets to be in Old Spice commercials...
so the headstomper should be playing in our d.

Except that our D-Line has been playing very well...
and I’m not sure it’s a good ideal to screw with the chemistry by bringing in someone with “questionable” character & someone that’s known for being lazy & out of shape…..but that’s just me.

I never said we shouldn't take him
I (and I believe titansfan4ever) will still hate him no matter what team he is on.

So I get to have an opinion cause I agree with you
But since he disagrees, it’s not constructive.
Got it.

Seriously? That’s the most blatant case of putting words in someone’s mouth I’ve ever seen.
I was just clearing up the confusion about you thinking I said that you said that we shouldn’t take him.
