LeGarrette Blount Claimed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tennessee Titans gamble did not pay off today as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed LeGarrette Blount off waivers.  I know this doesn't really matter this season, but I still believe that Blount has a lot of upside and could have been a great compliment to Chris Johnson in the Titans backfield.  He could have really added some punch to the offense (get it?).  Oh well.  It is a game week!

Happy Labor Day!

Titans make a nice move, taking a chance on an undrafted player

He proves himself during training camp, then they reward Blount by cutting him?
The only valid reason would be he doesn’t have his head straight. Although they defended him all training camp even after the Punch 2 incident. If they did it to improve special teams, I think it’s a very shortsighted move that they will regret. The guy can ball.

Could care less

Blount would have never seen the field. Titans are good at RB. Better for Blount, he will have a better chance of seeming some game time somewhere else. At least it’s the NFC

I know the Titans have a stud

at starting tailback… But what makes everyone think Ringer is a reliable backup? What has he proven? Nothing, that’s why you keep 3 Rbs. If you wanna cut Nickey or Keglar fine, but not a 3rd rb that looked to have potential

by Big Bad Bulluck on Sep 6, 2010 8:51 PM CDT up reply actions

'Could care less'.

I would be surprised, but considering your only concern about the guy was if he could play on special teams, I’m not.

I’m more concerned about who plays for CJ if our number 2 RB goes down than special teams.

by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 6, 2010 11:21 PM CDT up reply actions

Here's your answers:

Who’s going to get the goal line carries? Someone else. Who got ‘em last year? Not White – he didn’t have near as many TDs as 2008.

Here are some things you DO get to look forward to:
1) not getting pissed after a drive-killing 15 yard penalty for fighting ((One would think that Blount would have been more careful not to EVER get into a fight on the field after his college days. Doesn’t appear he can be trusted for that. Not as big an issue if he was a super-stud, but that’s not the case here.

2) not getting pissed over a special teams play ‘cause now the team has more depth there by cutting a player that wasn’t likely to contribute a great amount. ST killed the Titans most of last year. Addressing it (in all facets) was a key this offseason, not finding a 3rd RB.

3) if you are a Blount fan, then you have a greater chance of actually seeing him work rather than sporting the awesome two-toned blue. (yeah, not much, but it’s something)

by oilertitan on Sep 6, 2010 9:05 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I think our return game

was a bigger issue than special teams coverage…

And instead of a 15 yard personal foul penalty on Blount I get to see scrub ass Nickey get one.

Still the 2nd HB on this depth chart has yet to prove shit

by Big Bad Bulluck on Sep 6, 2010 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions

+1 for calling out Nickey.

The kid continues to make the roster.

Oh, and rothbard must be in our special teams coach in disguise. They’re probably the only two guys that feel like he has a reason to stay on the team.

by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 6, 2010 11:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Was Blount going to see the field much, or at all, this year?

No.

Was Blount a true "3rd RB "?

No. He may have been listed 3rd on our team, but this guy has so much potential to be a star in this league.

What happens when we can’t get CJ signed next year? What happens when Ringer wants to go to another team so he can start? One of these scenarios is very likely to happen next year. It would just be nice to have a guy like this on our roster.

I’m not questioning Fisher in bringing in 2 people that are likely to contribute on special teams, because God know we need that after last year. The question is why Blount? There were so many other options on this roster who not only fit the qualifications of “not going to play special teams or contribute anything this year,” but the problem is that none of these guys have the potential that Blount has. Guys like Rusty Smith, Fernando Velasco, Ryan Mouton. Those all would have easily passed through waivers.

Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...

I was disappointed to see Blount go...

But I’m over this. It’s all we’ve talked about for the last 2 days. And he might have gotten 30-40 touches this season in all reality.

I’d rather start talking about the Raiders.

by back2smashmouth on Sep 6, 2010 9:58 PM CDT reply actions

Hmm, let's see.

Raiders have a new QB, Jason Campbell. Shaky at worst, pretty decent at best. They have their own ‘Revis Island’, only it’s called Ashumomaogoamgoa Island.

And they have a pretty average run D. But their offense is a mess.

And their coaching staff is pretty detached too.

I'm with ya

We all have our opinions on it… Some are upset about the move, some could give 2 shits… Time to move on

by Big Bad Bulluck on Sep 6, 2010 10:04 PM CDT reply actions

Me Too

I’d loved Blount to stay, but it something that I have any control of. We still have the best back in the league and a very good back up. Now we know who are on the team and support them. Time to focus on the Raiders which is less than seven days away. Are you ready for some football!

Seriously everybody should get over this and move on

I’m sure the Titans have weighed the pros and cons of Blount and decided he is not worth the 3rd RB spot. They watched him on the practice field and we did not. My guess is he can’t play special teams and he can’t pass protect or catch passes.

Last year, CJ carried the goal line plays, i’m sure he would not be pleased to give the ball to the 3rd RB to score the TD. Remember also that Ringer was a workhorse in college and he is more than capable to share the load with CJ.

We are more thin in the LB and Secondary. I’m glad we took more LBs and safeties.

"decided he is not worth the 3rd RB spot"

If they did, then that’s poor decision making.

And Ringer ‘was a workhorse in college’. This is the NFL. Running over guys in college doesn’t compare to running over guys in the big leagues like Blount was doing.

“My guess is he can’t play special teams”?

Alright, someone explain to me how people can think special teams is a bigger priority than depth at RB and overall potential.

i hope you'll not go to the point of hoping CJ and Ringer gets injured...

to prove yourself right. Any which way, even if we have Blount on our roster, if we lose CJ, this season is more than likely over.

I wouldn't sink that low.

And I meant losing Ringer. After all, Ringer is apparently going to have to be the ‘bruiser’ of the two in those situations.

Pinoy

I like how you say everyone should get over this and move on, and in the next breath make some points why is was a good move… That’s pretty funny

Trust the same people that made the decision to put the return game last year in the hands of Ryan Mouton! ha ha more funny stuff you guys say.

CJ not pleased about giving the ball to a goaline back? Who gives a shit what CJ wants? It’s about winning games and keeping him healthy to do so. Not his next deal or anyone’s fantasy fb teams. Nobody should be glad we kept Donnie Nickey over Blount, that’s just idiocracy

Now lets get over this and move on

by Big Bad Bulluck on Sep 7, 2010 5:31 PM CDT up reply actions

So you have no problem with our special teams suffering just so we can keep a running back who is going to be inactive every week and never carry the football?

It would make sense to keep him if the Titans were actually going to use him. But they aren’t. They are going to give the goal line carries to CJ just like they did last year when LenDale was on the roster.

Are you unhappy about it because Blount was going to contribute or because you think the Titans should change their plans so Blount can contribute?

Fisher was hoping Blount would pass under the radar and clear waivers.

Simple fact is, he didn’t. It’s a shame, but of course this won’t stop anything from happening.

But you can bet that if Ringer goes down, everyone will remember this and say ‘We shouldn’t have gambled with him’.

I mean, Rusty Smith is a QB we could have risked with less recoil. We already have a good starting QB and a good veteran backup. Velasco was an asset, easy to risk. Mouton… well, we all know how well he’s doing lately (not well at all.)

But risking not only the 3rd-string HB in such a physical position as runningback, but a guy with potential and freight train power, something we don’t have? Losing him has a lot more recoil than losing the others.

I have to say, I have no idea what Fisher saw on that board that made him decide to roll the dice with Blount.

Just let it go cant do anythin bout it now. Lets just focus on raiders. Does anyone know the condition of jacob ford?

by charmando on Sep 7, 2010 12:27 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

Totally disappointing!

This guy is a beast… I hope we are in the hunt for Vincent Jackson… if we overuse CJ, he will get hurt, and there goes our season! We need a deep threat that is not afraid of catching the ball to open up the field for CJ… I feel we still do not have any identity at WR… IMO
