NFL Roster Cuts: Titans Reach 53-ish Players
The full cut list is out in several locations (h/t to Wyatt and McCormick mainly) for the 2010 Titans squad, and there aren't any real stunners on it (see full list and prediction for the practice squad after the jump). A few throughts do jump out about who's left:
• Not sure if everyone has heard, but Jeff Fisher is openly threatening to deactivate Kenny Britt on game days, and start Lavelle Hawkins over him, if he can't get his head straight.
• Chris Johnson, Javon Ringer and LeGarrette Blount. That's a backfield you can win a lot of games with. I'm pumped about this, and I hope Blount continues to work hard and keep his head straight now that we've all taken the leap of faith.
• Ryan Durand, the OG from Syracuse the Titans kept the final pick of last year's draft Ryan Durad as the spare reserve offensive lineman, and since the roster also includes Velasco, Otto and Kropog, Durand could be the guy who gets bumped back to the practice squad after McRath comes off of his suspension (Keglar and Allred are no longer eligible for the practice squad, and I don't see them being straight cut). Still, congratulations to the young man for making it to the big leagues!
• Nick Schommer, Robert Johnson and Nickey will provide depth at the safety spot, and those of us who still believe will commence sacrificing trinkets to the football gods in the hopes that Rolle makes it through waivers.
Follow us through the jump for my prediction for the practice squad:
Practice squad prediction (assuming they don't pick-up other waived, yet PS eligible, players):

• DT Joe Joseph

I knew it would happen but it still stunned me to see Nickey not cut.
On the flip side of that, we finally cut Paul Williams.
10. 28. 18. Let the season begin.

What has Nickey shown us?
That he can make a single tackle on special teams?
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions
uhh, he makes plenty of tackles
it’s not like this is his first year
Simms made throws.
Doesn’t mean he deserved to be on the roster.
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions
nickey is on the roster
simply for special teams
As you said, though, it's not like this is his first year.
If all that can be said about him is “he can make plenty of tackles on special teams”, then he’s not worth much, is he?
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions
because special teams
actually is important. it’s like nickey is super awesome, but unarguably better than Rolle on special teams. It’s his niche
So Nickey deserves to keep his spot because he can out-special-teams Rolle?
Yeah… that makes… uh… sense.
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions
if the question is nickey vs rolle
then yes absolutely nickey should get the spot. He is special teams captain. Why replace a solid special teamer with a rookie that is scared to hit anyone?
I think both of them should have been cut.
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:27 PM CDT up reply actions
i'm sure nickey will go
once someone demonstrates with more than hype, that they can actually play better.
And it's a big surprise someone hasn't yet.
Then again, most of the tacklers that are better than Nickey wouldn’t be on special teams.
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:31 PM CDT up reply actions
why are you hatin'
on special teams? It’s not the same “special” as the special olympics.
I'm not hatin' on special teams.
I’m hatin’ on the guy on special teams. (Nickey)
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 7, 2010 12:01 AM CDT up reply actions
it was up to Rolle to out "special teams"
Johnson or Schommer, but he didn’t. Hopefully the get him to the practice squad and he gets better and will give it another go next preseason.
Actually that makes perfect sense.

Thomas Howard
Not sure if anyone knew per twitter jwyatt reporting that the titans are really interested with raiders LB Thomas Howard who would def boost our lb core if they do sign him I think our starting LB core would b McGrath tully and Howard which is def a really really good lineup with Witherspoon providing quality veteran exp at backup
by Oilers2titans on Sep 4, 2010 4:15 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Was he released by Oakland?
10. 28. 18. Let the season begin.
by WinnipegTitanFan13 on Sep 4, 2010 4:19 PM CDT up reply actions
No
Supposedly would’ve been a trade. Mort (or Schefter) tweeted OAK had gotten offers, but wasn’t happening for Howard or CB Chris Johnson.
I don't know much about Howard
But I don’t think the Titans would give up much for him. Actually, I don’t know how willing any team would be to part draft picks for him.
10. 28. Let the season begin. 18 didn't get the memo.

Jim Wyatt:
I mentioned earlier I’d heard a lot of buzz about the #Titans being interested in Raiders LB Thomas Howard and I think they still are
Don't know much about him.
All I know is that every team he’s been on seems to like him initially and then sour pretty quickly. That’s just my opinion though.

like this, see?

I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
Nah.
It was to the invisible guy right next to your comment repeating everything you say.
Duh.

cornelius ingram the tight end was released by the eagles
Would anyone else be excited to see Hawk start one game?
I’m disappointed in Britt, but I am cautiously optimistic about Hawk.

Start the Hawk,
Mentally Weak Vs. Mental Toughness
Start the Hawk, and hope Britt solves whatever is on his mind. It clearly not football
It worked for VY.
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
It's took Hawk what, 2-3 seasons to get where he is now.
Now I’m not bashing Hawk. I’m excited to see him play. But we can’t ease up on Britt. We need him out there working through this.
Can't agree more with the part about Britt.
But looking at how Fisher benched VY when his head wasn’t right, we should have seen this coming. If he’s willing to bench a first-round-pick QB, there’s no doubt he’d be willing to bench an up-and-coming receiver like Britt.
And I say up-and-coming because, like VY, I’m sure Britt can get over it and get back in the game. Heck, I’m sure VY is going over to Britt and telling him how to get over it, using his experience with it.
… By the way, what’s with all our star players having mental issues?

Haha.
I watched that on TV. Huuuuge upset.

There's 2 good (Off) rookies who were cut that i think had potential
Like RB Joique bell (who is like stafon johnson to me, a little better), WR Dezmon Briscoe (he’s similiar to britt),
I don't know about Brisco either........
Kenny just has to get his head back in the game.
MrDeeboi33
Congrats to R. Smith for beating the odds to make the 53.
A lot of work left for him, but he has gotten his feet in the door.
Good luck on your season MCM excluding Nov. 14 :)
Can't remember the last time Miami had so much talent.
Rusty Smith! (Titans future qb)
Camarillo trade made 0 sense. A starting clutch WR for a 29 year old back-up CB? Someone found Rickey's old stash.
They finally cut Paul Williams!!
I’d say it’s safe for me to cut Britt from my fantasy squad. Sure hope he gets his head out his ass. He’s still just a kid though, I think he’ll get it together.
Maybe he just needs to move to Nashville full time & forget the baby mama drama back in jersey
by oHIo1 on Sep 4, 2010 8:17 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Cornelius Ingram is on the block......
……..I think we should make a play for him and Macho Harris.
MrDeeboi33
Having finally watched the NO game
Britt looks like liability at this point. The regression is simply stunning.

also we definitely won the lendale trade
vickerson was cut today, so we got ATV and seattle got nothing pretty much
Well, the Leinart/Young rivalry is on haitus for now.
Leinart got cut by the Cards. And everyone except for Cards fans and ESPN aren’t shocked by it at all.

Waived
Per the tennesseetitans Twitter feed.
"In Greek mythology the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well that football field out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans."
Now, this I'm scratching my head at.
Ringer is a good backup, but we need a power guy in the backfield.
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:11 PM CDT up reply actions
not to mention if Ringer pulls a hammy and is out a game...
does that mean Johnson never comes out of the game even after a big run? WtFUDGE?
Or we just go no-runningback in the backfield and try to throw the ball for a few plays.
I’m just utterly confused by this move. Does Fisher have another halfback up his sleeve that he might grab? What’s going on here?
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions
what?
So. The titans only have cj and ringer now? I wonder if they are gonna pick up another, somebody like ward?
by AZ TiTan10 on Sep 5, 2010 3:29 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
ward already got picked up by the texans
but yeah just like steeler-hater called yesterday, they released gado, blount and they r probly gonna look for a vet HB
But, seriously...
Who else is out there?
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions
But did that cut come before or after we waived Blount?
by fanoftheunderdogs on Sep 5, 2010 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions
it seems like they happened pretty much the same time..
adam schefter posted it on twitter but most writers for their respective teams post stuff like that earlier than schefter and im not following any1 who covers seattle..but wyatt posted his 25 mins ago and schefter 28 mins ago..haha so idk what to tell u
i cant find any other source on the blount cut
could it be a misreporting?
"We take pride in running the football here". - Eugene Amano, C
dont think so
wyatt, PFT, hutton, aaron wilson (ravensinsider), terry mccormick, and titans official twitter all have it posted
check the column on the right
tennessean has blount cut and the practice squad made. no ekhtiari or blount, but myronne rolle and bruce matthews kid are both on it
keglar also placed on waivers as per PFT
"We take pride in running the football here". - Eugene Amano, C
DL Hall Davis, WR Dominique Edison, CB Pete Ittersagen, C Kevin Matthews, S Myron Rolle and LB Patrick Trahan on practice squad
That leaves 2 spots. no way Blount clears waivers. What an idiotic move by this organization.
Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...
www.manningface.com
guess they thought depth at LB
was more important than deep depth at RB
If Blount was cut...
we should be signing a vet RB backup here. who are available?
"We take pride in running the football here". - Eugene Amano, C
could we be freeing roster space for a trade?
"We take pride in running the football here". - Eugene Amano, C
Might being seeing a lot more of VY vs. Leinart
Leinart was signed by the Texans today.
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
will never play unless Texans are destroying someone
or Schaub is injured
