NFL Roster Cut Day Open Thread
Today is will be a busy day in the NFL as every team has to get down to 53 players by 5 p.m. We will obviously up date the Titans cuts here once they are announced. Use this thread to discuss any cuts around the league. I believe the Titans will be looking for guys that can help them with LB and offensive line depth, so some guys may make the cut today just to get cut tomorrow.

will nickey and alan lowry be smiling at the end of the day?
lets see.

Hopefully they will be smiling because Nickey's parting gift is a nice Rolex...
and Lowry knows it’s a knock-off.
Following these cuts will be a great way to spend time until the LSU game
GEAUX TIGERS!!!!! any LSU fans here.. or at least Bama/ Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc. haters..
I'm from just west of Baton Rouge
and there is nothing I like more than watching LSU lose in prime time on Saturday night. Won’t be tonight, but it’ll happen. Man I hate LSU :)
Chris Henry has just been cut by the Texans
takers anybody?

Someone needs to see the Thursday lowlight reels...
Lendale tore his Achilles Thursday night. Out for the year.
Don't sweat the pettiness, pet the sweatiness.
Broncos will be a good fit for Henry...
… blind as he is… Tebow will heal him.

I know this is a stupid question
but what’s the difference between cut and waived?
I’m guessing players
cut = have to sign a new contract with a team
waived = picked up and continue old contract?
I'm using them as synonyms,
but I guess “waive” would only be correct for those players eligible for waivers.
how does the waiver work?
if a player is waived and more than one team puts claim, does the team with lower standing from last year get the player?
Patrick Turner?
He’s a huge USC guy with local roots. We’re loaded with slot types- Hawk, Mariani, Washington. Got two prototypes in Britt/Williams and two big WR types in Gage/Cook, maybe worth a look.
Patrick Turner needs work
He was out played by two UDFA’s. But he showed big improvement from last year. So there’s hope for the guy. Hes almost got a hang of it but not isn’t a starter yet.
Can't remember the last time Miami had so much talent.
Rusty Smith! (Titans future qb)
Camarillo trade made 0 sense. A starting clutch WR for a 29 year old back-up CB? Someone found Rickey's old stash.

Chris Simms cut
Per Twitter…
"In Greek mythology the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well that football field out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans."
He'll end up somewhere...
he’s got a strong arm…he just hangs on to the ball too long (like most QBs)

hell make it threw wavers
""The truth can be tuffer den the times, my reminda my peaple to shoulder" give thanks and praise!"
blount
I saw blount throw a huge block in pass coverage during the panthers game I believe. That should vote really well for him. in the years i watched him in oregon we never really threw him the ball much, which is why he may be struggling with the pass game. that and we ran a pure option offense.
""The truth can be tuffer den the times, my reminda my peaple to shoulder" give thanks and praise!"
I’m hearing a rumor that Blount may get cut…

Good move
just curious why Fisher would play him before Blount if he was going to cut him
isn’t it better to let Blount play better opponents and learn?
Maybe Fish was trying to see if Gado was worth keeping ahead of Blount?
Blount must have been ahead of Gado (in Fish’s mind) so he wanted to give Gado a chance to prove he was better than Blount.
Apparently he didn’t…

Plus, it gave Gado opportunities to show off for the rest of the league
I’m sure Fisher was trying to do a favor to Gado by giving him enough carries so that he can try to get on another team.

and if we do make a play for him then I would prefer it for him to replace Gage…I think he would be an upgrade over Gage and less injury prone, but more expensive

I see Matthews, Durand, Rolle, Edison, Joseph as locks for the practice squad
Also David Howard
that would make 6 guys locks for the practice squad

Jim Wyatt:
Hearing a lot of buzz about the #Titans being interested in Raiders LB Thomas Howard. He’d provide a boost to LB corps
heard he's packaged with CB Chris Johnson
if it happens, there will be two CJs on the team.
"We take pride in running the football here". - Eugene Amano, C
hahaha
yeah that would b good though, they really only have 4 CB’s now if u dont count vinny fuller. both would b nice additions
Per Adam Schefter
Raiders listened to trade offers for LB Thomas Howard and CB Chris Johnson but, at least for time being, opted against trading them.
USC > UT (Both of them)
Titans looking to trade
for Raiders LB Thomas Howard. What do you guys think? They did release Durand which puts them at 21 cuts today when they only need 20.
"Oh, you should never, never doubt what nobody is sure about." Gene Wilder - Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
Depends on what we give up
but I would take him for a late round draft pick (6th)
by shawneriksmith on Sep 4, 2010 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions
Also, Chris Johnson wouldn't be bad
He’s a solid CB…3 picks and 18 passes defensed last year but he was thrown at a lot with Asomugha lined up on the other side. But, compare that to Harper last year, who had 1 pick and 6 passes defensed. So, he would be a good veteran backup.
by shawneriksmith on Sep 4, 2010 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions
But the guy could likely push ATV down the depth chart.
And I’d like to see ATV starting soon. I think he’s good enough to start now.
Hope Rolle makes the practice squad
or some other roster. He’s been very generous with his charitable donations and probably needs to see some cash flow soon.

AZ cut Leinart
I’m gonna miss the VY – Leinart “rivalry”…
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
Let's grab him.
How hilarious would it be to make him VY’s backup (or, backup’s backup). Ouch.

dolphins cut pat white
We could look him, since he´s more like vince, he could become a nice backup for VY.
Jim Wyatt again:
But the Titans are thin at CB with only four — Finnegan, McCourty, Mouton and Verner. Don;t be surprised to see an addition here
Except the chances of Fuller playing outside
are absolutely none.
L'enfer, c'est les autres.
by Strangely Enough on Sep 4, 2010 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Which is not the same as CB...
cornerbacks play on the outside while the nickel plays inside (which is also where the safeties play). Fuller is not suited to play outside which is why keeping 4 CBs is a bit risky.
This is the best piece...
I could find to describe the different responsibilities and skills needed for the 2 positions.
http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2010/3/9/1363555/can-you-spare-a-nickel-an
Which makes cutting Hill a little more curious
Guess the guy really was that bad.

the raiders will ask too much
to upgrade week 1 opponents, and we cant give much for a bandaid olb(until mcrath cant play) and a cb we not want to replace up and coming mccourty and verner
he is a starter in oakland
maybe he is not the right fit here. I not understand the tye hill cut. He´s not worst than mouton.

hahahahahaa, its funny
i created that horrible speculation and no one are more scared than me right now!
Pat White is a BIGGGG project
He was let go because he sucked.
Accuracy issues. He had to change his throwing motion.
Dear in headlights look. Because he has so much to learn coming from the spread and was thrown into the fire as a rookie.
Not the right size, especially to be running at NFL LB’s.
Had a mental breakdown in the beginning of camp. So you would have to build him up.
A good person. That’s all i could say positive about him.
