Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Chris Simms Was Going To Make Up A Better Story, But Then He Got High Edition
Chris Simms was in court yesterday* facing charges that he was driving while stoned. Why did the cop think Simms, who has protested his innocence by saying he only smoked cigarettes, was stoned? Probably because Simms told the cop as much:
"I was smoking marijuana in the car earlier... I took four puffs... There's nothing in the car... I smoked everything before,"
Simms' lawyers are trying to have the statement thrown out, saying that the quarterback was so effin' high he couldn't think straight misquoted by the police.
Kenny Britt is back into playing shape after being held-out of OTAs earlier in the offseason, but unfortunately he hasn't shaken the drops that plagued him throughout early practices. He's fallen to the point of running drills with the second team despite being given the starting nod a few weeks ago. This is a blip that Brit can certainly overcome, as the kid has shown stellar hands throughout college and his rookie year, but he's best served by overcoming the issue sooner rather than later.
Derrick Morgan has been searching high and low for a away to get back on the field as soon as possible (the team even consulted with the world-class orthopedist who's name terrifies baseball fans everywhere: Dr. Andrews), and is now undergoing platelet-rich plasma treatments to promote fast healing. Morgan says he injured a different part of the same calf because he was over-compensating while the original pull healed. I'll believe him on that part because I used to go through the same thing back in my younger days with hamstring and quad muscle injuries: you start walking differently to keep the pressure off and you end up with everything on the other side hurting after a week or so.
Jump young man, jump...
The Titans will be practicing under the lights tonight at Baptist Sports Park, and I'm going to be there. So come on out if you want to check-out the Titans' camp, and look for the white boy (sorry, don't want to offend jmkiii58) fan with the Donnie Nickey jersey yelling at the cornerbacks about how Nick Harper would've made that play.
If you're heading out to tonight's camp session, here are the crucial things you need to know before you get there.
Rennie Curran is taking over Keith Bulluck's old number, and he tells Boclair that he's respectful of the legacy Bulluck has created in the two-toned blue number 53.
LeGarette Blount answers five questions from John Glennon, including one that gives some hilarious insight on Lavelle Hawkins:
Best Titan for Dancing with the Stars? "Lavelle Hawkins. All he does is dance. We can put on some music right now and you’ll see, he will start dancing."
Blount also weighed in with support for his former starting QB, Jeremiah Masoli, who is currently a walk on at Ole Miss.
* - upon further review I am finding conflicting reports as to whether Simms was actually in court yesterday morning, or if it's merely that the actual statements were released by the police. The picture with the NYP story is from last week. Either way, Simms was definitely at training camp yesterday afternoon.

Britt
So if Britt had great hands in college, and is plagued with the drops here, how long until the “VY side arm throwing motion” BS starts again?

Based on win %, but we play less games against teams that are .500 or better and less games vs. playoff teams.
But that may be off-set by the fact that, unlike the team we're tied with,
we’re not too scared to make the playoffs…

I love it....
A tough schedule…. No Problem. The thing about this list is this is based on last year’s performance. It a new year and this list is just fodder to create some buzz for the new year. The Titans should be at the bye week easily 6-2 or 5-3 at the minimum. Anything else will be better than 2-6 last year at week 9 but will be a disappointment. This team should be on a mission to put last year mediocre and take a step to be a contender in the conference. I know as a fan that is my expectation of the 2010 season.
Just read the piece on Curran getting #53
& I duno if I like someone wearing it this season. I hope it one day is retired. But its gonna be too weird to see someone else wear that #.
just hope Curran can do 53 justice
and not to be a nutrider, but i think i must have a titans tat. sorry tattedTI. I live in SEC country, so I have seen Rennie play, he has a high motor, like a smaller LB version of Vanden Bosch. Have faith my comrades
