How did you become a fan?
This is something I've always been curious about. With the exception of the Texans are the newest team in their area, so how did you become a fan of the Titans? Were you a Houston Oilers fan who followed the team from Houston? Or did you pick up the team once they moved to Tennessee? My story is after the jump.
I've been a fan since they were in Houston. I was only 8 years old when they moved to Tennessee. A lot of Oliers fans were hurt by the move and hate the team now but my dad and I weren't one of them. I'm not sure why but my theory is that we didn't live in Houston at the time so it didn't hurt us as much as people who lived in Houston. When then Texans came around we tried sort of a dual-fanship. I had my David Carr jersey and we were excited for the team but within a few games we realized that the Texans weren't our team. Jeff Fisher was our coach. Steve McNair was our QB. The Texans could've won the Super Bowl and they wouldn't have been our team. We had too much history with the Oilers/Titans. Cheering for the Texans just didn't feel right. We loved the team we already had.
So what's your story? If you came with the Oilers why did you stay with the team? Did you consider rooting for the Texans? Did you consider selling your soul to the devil and rooting for the Cowboys? If you weren't a fan of the Oilers before they moved how did you become a fan? Were you a fan of a different team before the Oilers moved to Tennessee? Were the Titans the first team you even backed? I'm very interested in all of your answers.

Eveyone has to vote Vunce here.
Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.
"What if I was Peyton Manning?"- CJ to the ref after they picked up a personal foul flag for a late hit on him.
I voted Vunce
But I started watching NFL and Tennesee during the 2003-2004 season… Which was George’s last season I believe.
I am huge sports fan in general and was really interested in watching football.. So I got my brother to play Madden with me so I could quickly understand the game… He was already a Titans fan. The first game I ever watched was a Titans game with my brother, and they lost, but I couldn’t help but want to be a fan of that team because of McNair (RIP).
I have been a big fan since! Recently converting my sister to an NFL and Titans fan.

OK, OK, Make fun all you want,
but, yes, I followed Vince from Austin to the Titans. I have become a true-blue Titans fan since 2006 and watched every game I could get in Austin in 08 and 09 when Vince was not playing. I owe a huge thanks to MCM. It would be really tough to be a long-distance fan without you guys. It’s a great site!

Didnt have a team in the late 90's
Eddie George was my favorite player though. Loved the way he played the game.
Music City Miracle sold it for me.
Being a Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls fan, I would always get strange looks when I told people I was a Titans fan.
Oh well.
AND VINCE YOUNG HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!!!
I voted Vunce....
since any of the first 3 doesn’t apply to me.

I knew Vunce when he was Vince.
But actually I became a Titans fan as a child when I watched the movie Remember the Titans and found out that there was an NFL team with the same name. Then the Music City Miracle and it was set.
10. 28. 18. Let the season begin.

Houston Oilers
I from Houston to Kansas when they moved from Houston to Tennessee. So I have none of the hatred for them. Plus I loved Fisher, McNair, and George, and I wasn’t gonna change that because of an owners business tactics to get a new stadium. By the way I hate the Texans and to me they are just an Artificial Flavor for an Oiler Substitute.
Titan 4 Life
i was a buckeyes fan as a kid
and followed eddie to houston and the NFL
Since the Luv Ya Blue days....
I remember watching the Oiler games from the early 90’s with my dad, although I was too little to know the players as I do now the Titans. I lost some interest in football until I saw the most incredible game I had or will ever see in my life…the Music City Miracle. I’ve got it on DVD as well as the Houston Chronicle sports section proclaiming that amazing victory. My passion grew as they made the Super Bowl run and was devastated with the “one yard short” ending. Ever since, I bleed two-tone blue each and every Sunday, sometimes having to watch the games on crappy online feeds (hey, we all have to deal with out of market rules). I attend every Titans/Texans game here at Reliant Stadium, and I rock that Vince jersey with each sweet victory at VY’s “other” home. I can’t wait to see how this year goes, and thanks so much to Jimmy, gramsey, and August for such an awesome site to get the latest news. GO TITANS!!!

NOOOOOOOOOO not the 1 yard short thing...
My wife and I married in 99 so I told her it is either my lucky year because i married you and the Titans made the superbowl, or my unlucky year because I married you and the Titans came up 1 yard short. For some reason to this day she still does not like hearing that go figure??
Onto the fan side, growing up my dad was a Miami fan, so I liked them because of him, but I also liked Houston, and Moon. While playing H.S. football our QB’s dad who was our Wide Reciver coach, played WR for Houston, so I grew more to them as well. When they moved to Tennessee my fate was sealed.
I still remember them playing at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
My dad owned a hobby shop in Jackson, TN during the time of their relocation to Memphis and then Nashville. I still remember my dad and one of his good customers talking about how the team always going to “be all right” because they had drafted Air McNair.

As a little kid, living just north of Cincy during the Boomer era
I was a Bengals fan. & the 1st year I started watching football was the same year they went to the Superbowl. I thank God everyday for Joe Montana & his comeback win. It broke my little heart(I wore my Boomer uniform w/ helmet during game). I threw out that uniform that night & cried myself to sleep.
I love(d) Bo Jackson. He ruled. So I thought I’d be a Raiders fan. But before I could really get into them(this was pre-internet for all u young’ns, which made it hard to follow a team so far away) Bo got hurt…by the damn Bengals.
I was a kid w/o a team. I had a friend whose sisters boyfriend was a big time Oilers fan, originally from Houston. He got us to sit down & watch them play. One game of that run&shoot & I was hooked!!! Warren Moon was my new fave player. Thank God they were good on Tecmo Bowl, which burried that hook in me for good.
I have sense transformed my wife into a Titans fan. & am working on my 2yr old…
When they drafted McNair, I was happy. When they got Eddie, I was THRILLED. I love bein a Titans fan up here. We are few & far between, but we are loud&proud!!
Am I the only "out of state" Titans fan
who gets excited to see other Titans fans? Its so unexpected here, its kind of a shock. There is always a hand shake, or high five & a “good to meet a friend”.
My fave is seeing a TN license plate & them seeing my Titans plate frame & getting honked at or waved to, lol.

No I am with you...
They are few and far between in Montana also, but with Fisher having ties to the University of Montana, and owning a house down there, and M&M’s home town only 20 miles from mine, more fans are starting to show up.
I've only seen 1 Titans fan besides the titans game i've been to
ever. so yeah haha but I dont really expect to see titans fans in maryland.. but yeah im definitely with u on that
I grew up in Houston and remember...
going to Rice stadium back in the early 60’s to watch the Oilers. You guys would have loved watching them back then…they won a championship, too. Course they’ve gone through alot of changes since then…but…they’re still the same team to me…and always will be!!!
Yeah, I think it was '61 when they won the AFL Championship.
Watch it grams…STT has my back!!

Did you ever get to see Buffalo play?
My grandfather was the Head Coach of the Bills in ’60 and ’61.
Official MCM Hater!
"If anyone asks you, you fixed my television. Now go!"
I'm sure I did....
but for some reason the Raiders is the team that stands out the most. I think it was because of George Blanda being their QB, but then he came to play for us….:-)…..anyway, that’s awesome about your grandfather. I guess you’ve got football in your genes. I wonder what he would have thought about C.J.Spiller?

1975....i think
grew up in houston watching Earl Campbell, Dan Pastorini……mmmmm……oh yeah..CURLY CULP!!! And of course Billy White Shoes Johnson..
Had my heart crushed when Mel Renfro caught the pass in the playoffs but ref called out of bounds against Pittsburg. 76? (what started instant replay I think)
Went thru the Warren Moon era…..had my heart crushed in Buffalo….
got out of football for a little while bla bla….Vince Young brought me back…….
Had my heart crushed by Ravens game…..I love Alge but…..damn….haha
I love the titans though no matter what!!!!!
My story is similar
I became an Oiler fan when they drafted Earl. I feel your pain with all the scenarios described.
Not to be picky, but it was Mike Renfro. Mel Renfro played for the Cowboys.
thats right
sorry….i’ve killed several brain cells since then…haha

thanks…..I’m really NOT an “alky” …..just talk a good game. (don’t want anyone worrying I’ve passed out and thats why I had one post before the game and one after!)
I do however enjoy a really good single barrel or small batch bourbon..(said the whiskey snob haha) ….once every now and then.

I voted "Vunce" since this poll needed another option
When I was a kid I Did. Not. Watch. Football.
Call if blasphemy if you want, but I thought it was boring on a higher order than baseball. Of course, it didn’t help that I grew up in Portland, OR where the only game in town was Basketball and you root against Seattle on principle.
To keep it short (because I CAN ramble) my mom ended up moving to Nashville in 1998 due to her job. I followed at the end of the school year. That summer we somehow wound up with tickets to the last preseason game at Vanderbilt stadium and I grudgingly agreed to go along. I found the game quite a bit more interesting at this point, but I still wasn’t sold.
During the off-season the name change was announced and the uniform shown and I liked it. I heard a lot of complaining, but for me it was great because they had two shades of blue (my favorite color) and Titans is a cool name (at least, that was my rationale then). Then the real key to my conversion came along.
I was, for all of a year… the 1999-2000 school year, a member of Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program (I was also in JROTC in high school, but that has no bearing on the story). The Squadron Commander of the Berry Field squadron of CAP was a manager for Papa John’s Pizza. With the new stadium finished Papa John’s had a contract to sell pizza in the stadium. Most of the workers were actual Papa John’s employees, but our CO came up with the idea to have the cadets who were old enough (16, 15 with age fudging… that was me) help out and have the money that would be paid to them go to the squadron. We got to keep any tips we got.
Now, we were all cool with this as it got us free pizza every day we worked and, since at that point we were hawking pizza in the stands, we actually got to see a good bit of the game. Plus, as long as we cleaned up quick enough, we could pretty much always see most of the 4th quarter even if we were on topping duty.
By the end of the regular season, I was hooked. I went from being disinterested in football at all to the kind of fan who yells, screams, and throws things at the TV when there’s a bad call… all in the span of about 16 months.
Tecmo Super Bowl.
I mentioned this in the “What is it you do” fanpost.
But the Oilers were my favorite team on Tecmo Super Bowl when I got the game for Christmas when I was 6 or 7. Warren Moon to Haywood Jeffries, Drew Hill and Ernest Givins. Lorenzo White wasn’t worth a damn but it didn’t matter with that passing attack.
They moved to Tennessee, and I followed them. I’m from Illinois so the move didn’t hit me on the personal level.

houston oilers baby!
fan since the houston oilers. still rock my moon or campbell jersey every sunday. ive lived in rochester, ny my entire life and born and raised and oilers/titans fan. first live game i saw was the playoff game in buffalo where reed, and beebe both scored td’s when they were illegally out of bounds and the pass interference on the moon int in ot. but the best revenge was gettinem back in the music city miracle game. i can undertand the hatred for the titans in houston but i truly belive theres more titans fans down there than they let on to believe. and titans fans are cool but to me i like meeting ppl who were fans before tennessee. met alot at the hall of fame game last yr. that was very refreshing. i bleed Columbia blue.
cant wait for sunday ppl go titans!!!!
