MCM Play of the Week (Week 3 Preseason)
Wow. That was one of the worst games I've ever watched. The good news is that NFL.com has gotten back to regular-season form as far as the quantity of videos. Unfortunately, the Titans didn't really do anything worth putting up. Only 1 more week of this silliness, though!
3 videos after the jump (Yep, only 3)...
A. Alterraun Verner forces fumble.
How's that MCM karma feeling ATV? He made a huge play here in the redzone to force a turnover. Although Jason McCourty played very well tonight, I think Verner has won Jeff Fisher over. Not only has he looked good on a play-to-play basis, but he comes up with turnovers, which is huge in the NFL. It's going to be close call, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
B. Collins to Mariani 37-yard pass.
Kerry Collins threaded the needle with this quick pass the Marc Mariani. He also made a really nice catch two plays before. I think Mariani has pretty much solidified his position on the roster after this game. He's made a play every game that he's been put in. He even showed that he could do the "little things", which rookies usually don't grasp, such as the nice little pick he threw for his former college teammate, Steve Pfahler, late in the fourth quarter.
C. Collins to Cook 35-yard TD pass.
This is the match-up that we've been drooling over since last training camp (Jared Cook 1-on-1 vs. anybody). He's impossible to cover. I don't see why the coaches don't try to create this match-up every game. Who cares if he can block if he makes plays that even KFC can't screw up.
Don't forget to vote!

gotta be cook
watch him coming out of the right slot. he just absolutely destroys the corner. of course that corner will probably be waiting tables in 2 weeks….

So, you're saying he will serve because he got served?
I agree. It was a nice play from Collins as well. I like the pristine beauty of it amongst such an ugly game. Also, points for getting me excited about Cook again.
I always go first half - coffee, second half - beer, because In LA, the games start at 10:00 a.m.
Safety, not corner.
stuff 'bout stuff.

I liked Mariani's play better.
He ran a perfect route, and instead of him trying to avoid tacklers he ran straight upfield trying to get yardage. I like that.

if anything
it’s “Collins’ play”. the perfect pass into a tiny window made that play happen.

It's K. Collins not C. Collins...just to let you know.
BTW Does anyone else think they say Mariani’s name wrong?
Media - "How does it feel to be that fast?"
CJ - "It feel real good."
Aside from sounding a little nasal-ey
They’re pronouncing it right

I had assumed
it was Mari-AH-ni, but the announcers have been saying Mari-ANNE-i. I assume they’ve been told how he wants his name pronounced since that’s not natural way to say it.
I'd assume that both ways to pronounce it are correct.

Remember,
Welker toiled in obscurity for a few seasons with Miami before hitting it big. Let’s hope it doesn’t take Mariani that long!

Our defense didn't allow a single touchdown all day.
That’s the good thing. It shows our D can be awesome when our offense is playing beyond horrible.
Maybe that was the point all along?

matt moore, carolina's offense
are terrible, especially in the preseason when deangelo and stewart aren’t getting many touches. moral victory at best.

I disagree.
Our defense made plays. It wasn’t just Carolina being offensively horrible.

Except Carolina's first team offense has not scored a touchdown yet
And we were their 3rd game. It wasn’t just Carolina being offensively horrible, but that had a lot to do with it.

really doesn't matter what you think
carolina’s offense, led by matt moore, missing steve smith and j stewart, and only having a tiny bit of deangelo is a JV team. it’s just a fact, that’s all.

Haven't had a chance to watch the game yet. It's sitting on my DVR.
However, that Cook catch is exciting. As hal noted, Cookie just punishes that safety on a go route up the seam. The other safety is in Cover 1, but is in no position to make a play on the ball. THAT is why we want Cook on the field more often. He creates some great mismatches.
Yeah he rocked that 3rd string safety! ;)
But, seriously, it doesn’t matter who he beats if he can’t catch the ball. And not every play is pass-to-TE, and he is going to need to improve is blocking to stay on the field.
Can we not call him Cookie?
Thanks.
