LeGarrette Blount Throws a Punch that Ends Practice
Yep, you read that right. Pretty much every media person who was covering tonight's closed practice is reporting that LeGarrette Blount threw a punch at the end of the session. Coach Jeff Fisher said he wasn't disappointed in Blount at all according to Jim Wyatt:
I am not disappointed whatsoever,’’ Fisher said of Blount. "His past is his past. Is that the first punch you’ve seen at camp this year? No. OK. I am not disappointed whatsoever. I have great confidence in the young man that he has learned from his mistake and is very competitive.
I have to agree with Fisher here. The only reason this is a story is because of Blount's past.
Wyatt also said on Twitter that David Stewart had to get seven stitches above his left eye. Sounds like it was a fun night at Baptist Sports Park. The practice was originally scheduled to be at LP Field but was moved because of the rain.

I'll say over here what I said on Addicted to Quack.
Was this acceptable? No. Big deal? Probably not.
These things happen as players such as LeGarrett and Bakhtiari fight to make the roster of their NFL team. LeGarrette apparently still has some issues with his anger, and I hope he continues to improve his temper. The fact that Fisher deemed his apology "unnecessary" makes me think that it wasn’t much of an issue at all, and LGB will face no consequences from this, as it probably should be.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Bakhtiari and Blount were spotted together joking at practice tomorrow.
These things happen in the Tennessee heat and humidity.

Gah,
good for him, defense better raise up’!
haha, who did Big Country get into it with for him to result in getting 7 stitches or whatever? Anyone know?
2003 or so
Sets the bar pretty high for training camp beatdowns

I remember this ....
WOW one of the best player on player beatdowns ever. Michael Westbrook v Stephen Davis. Westbrook laying a good ole fashion butt whuppin. Just for your info. Westbrook is a martial artist, a black belt. After this beatdown NOBODY talked about his MOMMA. :)
Also
Tony Brown is not on Wyatt’s injury report, did he start practicing again today…. this is GREAT news if so!
This isn't the end of the world
But if I was in his shoes, and I was trying to make an NFL team in his situation… The last thing I would be doing is throwing a punch… Really bro? You didn’t get drafted cuz you showed no self control. I don’t care if this is routine or not, this can’t help his chances of makin the team. What’s the next step? Stomping someones forehead with your cleats while they lay on the ground defenseless. Regardless of the time of day or place, he needs to learn to control himself and his temper before it gets him in trouble off the field.

who we gonna keep if we cut blount?
pearmen? I’m pretty sure his roster spot is secure. Just dont carry that over into a REAL game.
I would really hope he makes the team...
Pearman blows… Samkon Gado? I sure hope not.
Guess he hit a guy wearing a helmet… Step in the right direction

i think it is a story doofus
it shows that maybe he’s learned nothing from his blackballing from college and nearly the NFL. stop throwing blows at people! he’s too quick to sting like a bee all the time.
And who punches someone with a helmet on? not smart, LB, not smart.
IMPEACH DOLAN!!!!
VY did it his rookie year too
it doesn’t matter scuffles happen all the time.

Especially for Blount
I’m not saying we should cut the guy immediately and put him in solitary confinement for 3 years. I just think this is the second time he’s let his temper get the best of him in situations where he should have kept his cool. When a player suffers the consequences for doing something the first time (and harsh ones at that), you expect them to learn their lesson. Sure, they won’t be perfect, but you would think he’d learn to keep his temper out of the punching range.
It’s the same thing to some degree as Ricky Williams. Dude refused to learn his lesson no matter how many times he was reprimanded. I say he’s got one more chance. If he can’t keep his hands off of his teammates, how can we expect him to keep his hands off the opposing team.
What do we do if somehow Colt McCoy ends up on an NFL team starting against Vince Young?
Happens in training camp every year.
With every team with multiple players. Total…non…story.

In fact, I kinda like it.
This is what I want in my goal line back.

amen
i dot want a goal line back to give flowers to the defense before the play. I want him to have a god damn mean streak
by SouthTexasTitan on Aug 19, 2010 2:00 PM CDT up reply actions
but why the punch tho?
i understand it happens all the time, but we’ve seen the usual training camp scuffle – 2 people get tangled, one pushes the other, shoving ensues, at the most mask grabbing, everyone circles, bodies bump, and then it’s over. this is to me, like Plaxico getting released and going to another club with a gun in his waist.
when you did something that almost got you out of football totally, and significantly cut into your paycheck, you need to think twice before you throw the right, then back up like your in the hood and about to go in on someone. there needs to be a killswitch in his brain that gets tripped when his blood pressure goes up that high. And i’d be worried about the kid. can he handle himself under the bright lights of the NFL? i hope so, i’m rooting for the kid, actually i was hoping the Giants scooped him up once he went undrafted. but this makes me say ???
and he knows he’s wrong too, that’s why he apologized. maybe its a non story doofus, but it’s got to be a slight concern to Titans fans.
IMPEACH DOLAN!!!!
"but it’s got to be a slight concern to Titans fans."
And yet it’s not.
Excuse us if we choose to not let a Giant’s fan tell us what we need to be outraged about.

why the animosity
i didn’t come on here and knock anything Titans. i root for the titans, have since they had McNair, and as i just said, i was a fan of getting Blount for my team. i come here in peace, and thats the reaction i get? Gramsey, wound down fella.
IMPEACH DOLAN!!!!
Oh that's his screen name
move along, nothing to see here.
It’s really not a big deal. If somebody rips his helmet off on purpose twice in a live game, I expect him to throw a punch. Guy’s grandma just died, comes back to a practice where the d-coord has the defense acting like total asses (probably some kind of unit bonding plot). If he draws penalties frequently in normal game situations, that’s a concern. This isn’t.
by numbertenox on Aug 19, 2010 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions
yes i wasn't calling him a doofus
maybe that’s what confused old gramsey, it doesn’t seem to hard to do.
anyway, i like Blount, so i hope he does stay away from drama this season. he was beasting Monday night btw, he reminded me of Brandon Jacobs during his rookie preseason campaign, when he was ripping it up against 2nd and 3rd stringers.
IMPEACH DOLAN!!!!
You didn't "come in peace."
You came to troll and tell us what we should be upset about.
You say “I’m concerned,” we don’t care.
You say “it’s got to be a slight concern to Titans fans,” you are telling us what to think.

wow grams, you sound shell shocked
sounds to me that you’ve heard alot of people tell you what to do in life huh?
I didn’t troll, i came with an outsiders opinion. i never bad mouthed the Titans, Blount, or MCM. look up troll before you start throwing that out there.
but hate on hater, you seem proud of it.
IMPEACH DOLAN!!!!
I first saw this story on Yahoo
and the headline made it seem much worse than it actually was. If this was any other player without his past this would be a non-story. Hopefully he doesn’t try to do this in any games though.
Yo, I'm smokin herbals till it hurts you
I keep your daughter way out past her curfew
To add to that:
Pushing and soving is fine. I like to see that kind of fire but you just can’t go around throwing punches. That will get flagged everytime, and possilby get him ejected. Once is an accident, twice is a trend, three times is a problem. Lets hope this doesn’t turn into a problem.

Blount is getting ejected against the Texans
we always get in a gight against them.

you would think
that someone who almost lost everything over a punch before would learn something. sure, this stuff happens all the time, but blount should be holding himself up higher than that after his highlight-reel brawl against Boise. you have to wonder if he even learned anything at all from it, or if he is just a really, really loose cannon.

Fisher seems to be trying tomake it a non-issue in the press
But I bet he was not too happy with Blount. You’d have to be pretty blind not to see that this could potentially be a problem.
The only thing that would make it understandable is if Erik said something unforgivable like talking about his mama or something.
Just watched the video (Thanks Smash)
I think more concerning than the punch is the fact that apparently we can’t tackle the man.
Geez, how many tackles did he have to break?
Only suprising part of this story
is that it wasn’t Donnie NIckey that he punched.

You know it's a non-story when ESPNews is running with it.
I mean, just yesterday, these guys had a helicopter hovering over Favre talking with two of his teammates. Yeah, a helicopter. Over Favre talking to people.

Nobody is.
However, ESPN is obsessed with Favre, so they’ll try to make anything about him into a major story. Even a non-story like that.

They're the same way with Manning.
Before the superbowl, they did an entire hour-long special by bringing in facial experts. What does that have to do with sports? They were showing that ‘scientifically’, Peyton Manning has the ‘perfect face’.
I’m not kidding, they actually did that.

Can he skate..
After seeing the punch by Blount, The Nashville Predators want to know can he skate and if he can he will be given tryout as the backup enforcer behind Jordin TooToo. :) I concur with other post. It is a training camp punch and if it wasn’t him then it is a non story.
lol
Well, Fisher said it best.
“Is that the first punch you’ve seen at camp this year? No.”

Wow...
You guys are all pretty much in agreement that its not a big deal?
You just wait. If this dude is on the field this year, he will do some stupid shit to cost us yards. Remember my words.
