"Winning in the Preseason counts" per .549 winning percentage

As a Titans fan, I have heard the above phrase every year from Coach Fisher. Winning in the preseason counts. I decided to take his catch phrase to task and see if there is any correlation to winning in the preseason and winning in the regular season. I picked the two winningest teams over the last five years. The Colts and the Patriots. Both teams have won their division four out of the last five years. Listed below is both the preseason and the regular season records of the Colts, Patriots and the Titans over the last five years. Preseason record/ Regular season record. 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 Colts 0-5/14-2 1-3/12-4 1-3/13-3 1-3/12-4 1-3/14-2 Patriots 2-2/10-6 2-2/12-4 2-2/16-0 0-4/11-5 3-1/10-6 Titans 1-3/4-12 1-3/8-8 3-1/10-6 3-1/13-3 3-2/8-8 Colts five year preseason record a paltry 4-17 .190 Regular season 65-15 .813 Pats five year preseason record an ok 9-11 .450 Regular season 59-21 .738 Titans five year preseason record an ok 11-10 .523 Regular season 43-39 .538 *source NFL.com If Coach Fisher was a Star Wars character he would be Obi Wan Kenobi and his Jedi mind trick phrase of winning in the preseason counts. The Colts despite barely averaging one preseason win a year have a plus TWENTY TWO regular season win total over the Titans. Obviously the Colt and the Patriots have a different philosophy about the preseason games and winning them. The numbers show they focus on getting ready for the regular season and winning those games. Maybe Coach Fisher needs to join the dark side of winning in the regular season and quit passing out the kool aid of winning in the preseason.
