Tennessee Titans Waive Stafon Johnson
I posted earlier that the Titans have agreed to terms with Samkon Gado. Jim Wyatt is now reporting that the Titans have waived Stafon Johnson to make room on the roster for Gado.
There was a lot of talk here Saturday night into Sunday morning about what the Titans would do with Johnson after the injury he suffered in the first preseason game. They obviously weren't going to keep him on the roster, but I really thought they would move him to IR. They will have to reach some type of injury settlement with him and will no doubt pay for the surgery he received on the ankle.
Johnson has had quite the battle in the past year or so.

Yep. It made no sense to keep him.

Agreed, just hope we give him the first workout when he returns from the injury

Can Seattle pick him up on waivers?
If they can, Carrol’s going to claim him

Hopefully, that happens
He would get a better shot there than here.

Do you always have to clear waivers before you can be put on the IR?
That doesn’t sound right. Does it have to do with him not being on the 53?
What be the rules here?

This is what i was told
If they put him on the IR before letting him go to waivers he would count against the amount of bodies allowed in camp. If they cut him and no one claims him, then the team could put him on the IR without him taking up a spot.
correct if I’m wrong
Can't remember the last time Miami had so much talent.

I believe you.
That makes sense.
Thanks.

Any idea about practice squad for someone coming off IR?
by numbertenox on Aug 17, 2010 12:39 PM CDT up reply actions
can't come off the IR
it’s a season-long designation

doh!
I’d forgotten that. But he’d still be eligible for a practice squad next season if he still can’t make a team’s 53. I think they make around 80 grand or so minimum. It’s not chump change.

He has 48 hours to clear waivers. No one picks up injured players that are going to be out for the year. Especially unproven ones. After 48 he becomes titans property. In which you guys will put him on the IR.
I feel bad for the guy. Hopefully he comes back strong.

Reminds me of Rafael Little
we signed him as an undrafted free agrent even though he had a season ending injury in 2008 and gave him a chance to make the roster in 2009.

As much as i like him
i think we made the smart move. Im sure Jeff called him to express his regret.
Just curious, why isn't Alterun Verner's name on the MCM contributors list of names?
I see Gramsey, Superhorn, August, Hal and Aditya there.

The whole debate about cutting him or wasting a roster spot seems pointless now, doesn’t it?
by fanoftheunderdogs on Aug 17, 2010 4:29 PM CDT reply actions
Not really
I’m sure some of us still think it’s a waste of money to try and make people get that warm and fuzzy feeling that we are helping. Pay the man reparations for the injury and get him out the door. It’s not a charity. I don’t like the idea of paying the guy for a year to see if he MIGHT make the roster next year.
BTW, wasting a roster spot was never an option at all. No matter what he wasn’t going to take up space. The Titans aren’t that dumb.
What do we do if somehow Colt McCoy ends up on an NFL team starting against Vince Young?
