Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Win, Win, Win Edition
Chris Johnson + Titans = Compromise!!!!!! The Titans and CJ2K are working on a contract tweak that would basically turn his $2.5 million in incentive and elevator bonuses he's earned for 2010 into a guaranteed signing bonus for this year! This would apparently get CJ2K into camp. This is awesome, awesome news for Titans fans everywhere. This should table CJ2K's contract issues until the new CBA is negotiated next off-season, and both parties can look at the new shape of the marketplace. Next year, given that CJ2K has another 1,500+ yard/4.0+ YPC type year, Bud's going to have to open the vault and dig way back to give CJ2K what he'll have earned.
Paul K debates the HOF eligibility of a few current and former AFC South players he considers borderline at this point, including Steve McNair.
Tony Pauline has a great read on an company called National, which handles the basel-line college prospect scouting process for NFL franchises. Over half a dozen teams pay $100,000 plus the services of one of their scouts to get the book on essentially ever draft-eligible player in the country.

The young CBs on our roster have earned the praise of one important figure: Cortland Finnegan:
"They are pushing me,’’ Finnegan said of the youngsters. "There are guys on this team that are doing a lot better than me, so I have to step my game up. If I had it my way I would be second-string right now.
Phil Brame talks with the youngest of those CBs, Alterraun Verner, about the second CB spot, rebuilding the defense and divisional WRs.
Police say they know who shot Vick's former cohort last week, but they won't file charges. A related press release in my imagination indicated that the cops said the sick piece of fecal residue deserved to get shot (but not die) for his years of brutally abusing and murdering dogs for fun.
Here's another piece on Bo Scaife that's eerily similar to the Tennessean's article from yesterday.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, is funnier to me than people over 40 dissecting trends of the 'hip', and there isn't a better example of that right now than the recent obsession with codeine cough syrup. The stuff has been around forever, and it's been the subject of raps and movie references for a good 20 years, but give it a name like 'Purple Drank' and people freak out like it's an epidemic.

Epic news.

You’re so right about the syrup. How long ago was that song “Sippin’ on Some Syrup”? 2000 …so it’s been minimum 10 years that this stuff has been out there.
McNair is my alltime fave player
but I really dont thik he had a HOF career. He’s right on the bubble though.
Finally, compromise, now we can move on.

before Chris decides to pass on training camp
Titans FO doing the right thing?
Now I know this isnt our team this offseason. Bud must be dead and Fisher, Cecil and Dinger are doing a weekend at burnies here
Are people really freaking out about the codeine thing?
All I noticed was some subdued laughter at JaMarcus’s expense. Tough break for a guy who should have been a star. Think CJ sees JaMarcus’s contract and rolls his eyes?
I Think So
I know that if i were in a similar situation i would be rolling my eyes. poor CJ – all he has to do is perform admirably for one more year, and then the Titans should not have a problem with renegotiating his contract.
if you are reading this, stay strong and PATIENT CJ!
you watch NFL Live last night too?

as much as i loved mcnair
and that’s a lot, he’s not a HOF kinda guy. he’s in the hall of “very good”. he’s at the top of the tier as guys like chris chambers, dante hall, priest holmes, etc. all great players with great careers, but not hall worthy. the statue at LP is appropriate, as is the ring of fame honor.
great news about CJ, i hope he knows that if he rushes for, say 1400 yards and 6 or 7 TDs, he’s gonna get a huge contract next year.

i dont think dante hall and chris chambers r in the same class as mcnair (agree on hall of very good) and priest holmes.

According to the mission statement of the...
The Mission of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is:
To honor, preserve, educate and promote. . .
To honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to professional football
To preserve professional football’s historic documents and artifacts
To educate the public regarding the origin, development and growth of professional football as an important part of American culture
To promote the positive values of the sport
No where in there does it metion QB rating or Superbowl rings. I think Steve McNair has many great contributions to professional football. I think we expect more of our Quarterbacks now. We expect them to be tougher, we expect want them to think about the team first, and we expect them to have a human side.
#9’s greatest contribution my just be the Tennessee Titans. He is a part of so many great Titan memories, I can’t even picture the MCM with out seeing Steve jumping on the sideline. Maybe without him the team doesn’t take off here and is now the LA Titans.
With the voting the way it is, I don’t expect to ever see anyone give an exceptance speech on his behalf but I will be there if they do. He deserves all the accolades he receives.
I'm no super-genius... or are I?
i agree wholeheartedly on the rings thing
that’s the dumbest reason to keep a quarterback out of the hall. one player can’t carry a team for 19 games, no matter how good they are.
