CJ and Titans close to new deal?
Mike Florio and crew report that CJ and the Titans are close to a new deal. Apparently they expect the deal to be in place before camp begins. Here is the link:

Good for CJ. Good for the Titans. If you perform above expectation, you should be able to expect that your team will come through for you as you did for them.
Even if it is not the $30 million that he dreamt of in his insanity, he should get more garaunteed money with a new deal.

Mike Lombardi with NFL Network.
If true, will be great news for a pretty gloomy offseason so far.
I'll be surprised if this is
I’ll be surprised if this is nothing but posturing by the Titans to play the card in media that they tried to work a deal with CJ. Titans are the master at spinning stories with the overly friendly local media.
I don't know...
I realize it’s a different situation, but thinking back to the Steve McNair situation, I don’t remember any stories being spun. I could be just drawing a blank, but I can’t come up with any similar situations to this.
Additionally, the story is on NFL.com… Not local media.
On top of that, THERE IS NO NEWS. It is Mike Lombardi reporting on his GUT. And Mike Florio made a quick repost basically to generate a few more clicks.
If you want the real “story,” here’s the link: http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/07/05/lombardi-arrest-likely-the-end-for-russells-nfl-hopes/
I know that all sounded cynical, and I want the deal to get done as badly as anyone, but until someone breaks some real news, I’m not putting much stock into what I hear.
Nothing to see here, people...move along, move along now...
Everyone expects this to happen…so…whether it’s true or not doesn’t matter…cuz…it will be very, very soon. And when it does, it’s not going to be “big news” cuz we’re all expecting it to happen. NOW…question is Mr. TexansForever…..how and the HELL are you guys gonna stop him????
Well that depends.
If last year’s CJ shows up, then I think the answer is how does ANYONE stop him?
The real question for the Titans is assuming CJ is on the field and playing like last year, can the rest of the team step up their game to take advantage of it?
I’m sure teams will focus more on CJ this year than they may have last year. The key will be to keep him out of the endzone. He can have 250 yards a game for all I care, just don’t let him add a bunch of points to that as well.
But that is easier daid than done.

I don’t think that’s possible…
What is that old basketball joke?
Kareem abdul Jabbar just scored a mess of points, including one he bounces off a defender’s head into the goal. The opposing coach calls a time out, huddles the players and says “OK, who’s got Kareem? Does somebody want to cover him? This is not a zone.”
