2010 Tennessee Titans Training Camp Battles: Tight End

As announced previously in this space, Comcast has generously agreed to support the best NFL community around -- us! As part of that effort, between now and the end of the 2010 NFL season Comcast will be sponsoring a variety of special editorial and interactive features on our site.

This one is all about Jared Cook. The Titans traded up in the 2009 draft to get him, and he set the world on fire in the preseason. Then he got a high ankle sprain at the end of camp and could never get on track. When healthy he has the ability to present huge match-up problems, but we haven't seen him healthy yet.

Bo Scaife is still the most overpaid tight end in the NFL. I am sure he will begin the season as the starter, but he doesn't have anywhere near the upside that Cook has.

Craig Stevens should move into the Alge Crumpler role of being a seventh offensive lineman. They also brought in Sean Ryan last week who figures to just be a camp body, but a good camp could put him on the roster ahead of Stevens.

Comcast is a proud supporter of Music City Miracles. You’ll get your Titans games as a part of over 120 NFL games Comcast provides in HD, as well as On Demand game recaps from every NFL game every week, faster Internet speeds, and stunning HD. With Comcast and NFL RedZone, you get every touchdown from every game every Sunday afternoon! Call 1-800-COMCAST or visit http://www.comcast.com.

If we can get Cook on the same page with the rest of the offense...

I see no reason that this team shouldn’t go to a no huddle offense. At the very least, it should be mixed in.

Jared Cook creates a matchup nightmare in that situation because the defense has to make a decision at the beginning of each possession whether to put in a slower linebacker or an undersized nickle back.

Under this scenario, you’d field Kenny Britt (FL), Justin Gage (SE), Jared Cook (TE/WR), and then either Ahmard Hall (FB) or Nate Washington (Slot) depending on the opponent/situation.

I like that idea superhorn

not as a full time offensive per se, but to mix in with our normal offense just to change the pace of the game it would be good. I think that this is the first year in a long time where we actually have a decent offense, not just a run game. If Cook can become what he all hope he is our offense could be pretty dang scary.
