Tennessee Titans plan to release WR Mark Jones, C Kenny Alfred

Returner Mark Jones has had quite the Titans career. Signed last offseason expecting to be the returner the Titans needed, he had a horrible preseason and was cut, and then was signed again when the Titans noticed that Ryan Mouton, who had never returned a football in his life, couldn't field the ball. Then Jones played a few games until he was placed on IR with a hamstring and apparent operation to clean up the disk in his neck. He's been released to the waiver wires today.

Here's what Coach Fisher had to say about it. "With the young guys on the roster and the depth chart, we just felt we’d give Mark an opportunity to catch on some place else. With the injuries and everything, it just didn’t work out.’’

With Jones gone, chances are pretty good that Damian Williams will be both the punt and kick returner this season.

Kenny Alfred, an undrafted center the Titans picked up after the draft from Washington State, was also released.
