2010 NFL Draft Day 2 Open Thread: Will Albert Haynesworth Return to the Titans?

Now we get to watch a lot of teams pick before the Titans are back on the clock, and even more than we know right now if they pull the trigger on the Albert Haynesworth thing.  I really, really hope that gets done.

Use this thread to discuss the happenings.  We will have plenty of coverage on whoever the pick ends up being.

Shanahan on NFL Network about Haynesworth (with a grin on his face)
No it’s not gonna happen. There’s been a lot of rumors, a lot of speculations going on here in the last month by Albert Haynesworth will not be traded.

exactly what you say

when trying to maintain leverage. coach speak is of little worth on these matters. if the trade doesn’t happen, shanahan wants to be able to tell Al with a straight face that it was all just a bunch of rumors and they never considered it seriously.

Wait- they had extra picks…and turned them into Tebow? Seems foolish, considering the other quarterbacks on the board and him being a glorified running back.

by Titan9 on Apr 23, 2010 5:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Word is, Buffalo wanted him.

But Buffalo was willing to wait until their round 2 selection came.

So yes, denver had to trade up to get him, because their second-rounder was later than Buffalo’s, but they didn’t have to trade as high as they did.

if

jones stay healthy alongside big al, brown will be expendable. marks improve this year and we have a nice rotation. big al is imcomparable to t.brown, and malcom could be good

by Fernando brazil on Apr 23, 2010 7:51 PM CDT reply actions

Totally false.

Imcomparable?

Not at all.

Tony Brown has his definate upside… at least he does not take plays off.
He is also very very stout against the run, maybe even better then Haynesworth. Brown simply is not expendable… he is our best Defensive tackle by far right now. Jason Jones will not and cannot stay healthy until he proves that to us. How do you know Marks will improve? Could he be starting next to Albert ( IF WE TRADE FOR HIM ) if we let Tony Brown also go to Washington? I would must rather have VIckerson start more than Marks right now as we speak.

by Aditya T (smashville) on Apr 23, 2010 7:52 PM CDT reply actions

Yep,

me too.

But… if Haynesworth stays true to his word… and never shows up to the Skins mincamps or whatever ( until he has to ), he will then become a cancer correct. I doubt he will have a fantastic attitude and will work his ass off in front of the coaches. I bet he would loathe and coast through practices showing teammates how he is acting. That becomes a big distraction and you don’t want other people doing that.

So maybe in a couple weeks he really WILL be on the trading block? And maybe Washington’s asking price could even go lower if this relationship worsens. We then could send them a pick next year…

What do you guys think?

by RhiNo6705 on Apr 23, 2010 7:57 PM CDT up reply actions

But he might be willing to do whatever

to get back here. You KNOW he misses Tennessee, that’s where he wanted to stay. He loves everyone here and he wouldn’t do that if he came here.

Jus sayin. Haynesworth can keep his ass in DC. We got Jones, Brown and a D-line that is NASTY. We dont need him back.

Just got here now, Titans pick really soon so can anyone clue me in to where the draft is going so far for the Titans? Arenas is gone, Albert is unlikely, Shipley is still there. Any ideas?

I have to admit its intriguing as having him as a backup. I know we’ve got VY, but a third round pick seems like a steal for him.

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is

by WarWolf on Apr 23, 2010 8:10 PM CDT reply actions

from NFL.com

Williams is a transfer from Arkansas to Southern Cal that enjoyed pretty much instant success since arriving in L.A. He led the Trojans in receptions during his two seasons at USC and showed the kind of speed, agility and athleticism that makes him a threat to take it all the way once the ball gets into his hands. He may lack premier top end speed but he does play the game fast and has a lot of agility and elusiveness in the open field. He also brings the added value of being a quality punt returner to the next level. He has struggled to make it through a full collegiate schedule healthy and his durability could be a concern for the next level.

From Si.com scouting

Positives: Explosive, game breaking skill player who can score any time the ball is in his hands. Plays with terrific quickness, immediately gets off the line of scrimmage and a solid route runner. Sells routes, displays quickness into breaks and stays low on exit. Consistent hand catcher who extends to make the reception away from his frame, and immediately transitions from making the reception to running after the catch. Makes the difficult reception in contorted positions, very effective running after the catch, and displays speed in his overall game. Effortlessly makes the difficult over- the-shoulder grab downfield. Game-breaking punt returner who follows blocks everywhere on the field and creates his own yardage. Plays with excellent balance, body control, and makes good use of the sidelines. Goes over the middle, exposes himself to the big hit, and makes the tough catch in a crowd

walterfootball.com

Summary: Williams is the kind of wide receiver I love watching tape on. He is very polished and well ahead of the pack, meaning he could contribute immediately in the NFL. With Williams’ talent level and work ethic, he has a great foundation to be a star receiver in the NFL. Transferred from Arkansas to USC with high school teammate Mitch Mustain.

Player Comparison: Jimmy Smith. Smith was that very rare route-runner you just don’t find very often. Williams might be the best route-runner I have seen in four years of scouting.

Center

no, srsly, all is forgiven if he turns out to be a decent returner. First 6 losses last year, how many of those might have been W’s if the return game wasn’t so farked up? That was epic problem last year, at least equal if not greater than the Angry Albert loss.
