2010 NFL Draft The Tennessee Titans Select Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech
With the sixteenth pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans have selected Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech.
This is a really solid pick, and a guy that most of us thought would long be off the board when the Titans pick. A pick that actually makes sense is a rare thing around these parts. I really like.
Now settle in because it is a long time until we pick again.

So happy
No way I thought Morgan falls to us. I was hoping Kyle Wilson but I’m really pumped about Morgan. GO TITANS!
Dissenting.
Fisher’s OCD when it comes to DL shows itself again.
Haynesworth deal is dead. Bulluck is gone.
No CB or KR/PR.
Somebody tell me how this team is going to be any better next year.

Solid positive attitude there...
We needed a DE and CB, we just filled one of those needs. It wasn’t like we were gonna solve everything with one pick.

We could have gotten Haynesworth for DL via trade...
….and drafter a CB/returner at #16. Three problems solved.
Now we will enter next year with a CB weakness and return game weakness….again. And we won’t sack Peyton Manning any additional times because it does not happen.

We can only trade for a guy
That the other team is willing to trade.
Fisher just said during his press conference that that door “was never opened.”
I’m sure something happened, but maybe there wasn’t as much wheeling and dealing that we all thought.
In the end, like I said, the only way we get Haynesworth is if Washington was willing to deal, so you can’t really pin that one totally on the Titans FO.
Hear the same with every potential trade every year.
It seems the Titans are the only NFL team who regularly have such unfortunate problems of trying to acquire players who were never on the block.
I’m not buying it. Fisher wants a team of 22-year-olds he can sell as 2-4 years away from contending so that every member of the press in Tennessee can tell us to “hold on” for a couple more years while our overhwleming talent develops (“they’re still so young! You can’t judge this team yet!”).
Fisher has OCD when it comes to the DL. And yet we still came into the draft AGAIN claiming it was a need.

Well, I agree with one point
We hear the same thing every year. Of course the guy will never say “Yup- we really dropped the ball on that one.” Would you?
At any rate, like I said, I really like Kyle Wilson, and that was my prediction before the draft started. But, in the end, I think Derrick Morgan will be a good, well-rounded (run and pass defense) DE.
The question becomes, I suppose, who do you trust more to step up- our young DBs or our young D-linemen?
Either, if both are actually given a chance to play.
But it’s moot. If Morgan were off the board, I STILL think Fisher would have found a DL he absolutely couldn’t pass on. He ALWAYS does (paging Sen’Derrick Marks).
And the fact of the matter is: We have banked an entire offseason on returning last year’s team, minus Bulluck, minus Mawae, plus Morgan. Net downgrade.
We’ve actually managed to get a little worse this offseason. And we will enter 2010 with many of the same problems we had in 2009 (#2 CB, KR/PR, etc.).

you know...
repeating that in every post doesn’t make it true. there’s still 6 rounds of the draft left, even if we only have picks in 5 of them. Then there’s undrafted free agents, the post-draft free agency, and post-camp cuts.
Great Pick!
I think he’s the best ALL AROUND DE in the draft. Good pass rusher and run stopper.
AGRIFF
I think we got the best DE in the draft
I didn’t think he’d be available but I’m so happy right now

Solid pick
No way do I think Morgan is still available for us at 16

You heard what Fisher said tho........
that they wanted Derrick Morgan, and were surprised that he fell to them.

Thank you, New York Giants.
So far, so good.
And BTW… strangest draft ever? WTF is Denver doing?
Folks, it could be worse. I mean, I’m not sure that this team will be better than 8-8 next season, but at least we didn’t trade up—twice—to take Tim Tebow. Ugh.

They also traded down first.
Most of the picks they used to get Tebow were picks they had gotten from trading down first, so in essence he was a “bonus” pick they wouldn’t have gotten if they had stayed at their original draft position. In that way, it was smart maneuvering.
In every other way, still a boneheaded pick. McD has eesentially bet his career on Tebow.
Even if he was a purely "bonus" pick, they still have to pay him.
And they could have used that pick on someone else. Also—and I didn’t realize this until this morning—but they’d already acquired Brady Quinn to back up Kyle Orton. Now Orton isn’t terrible by any means, and Quinn, well, I think the jury’s still out. So what’s the hurry to take Tebow? Even if you buy into the idea that he’s a decent prospect as a project, NO ONE takes a project like that in the 1st. I mean, even just in salary, it’s crazy. Remember, we got KILLED last year for taking CJ a few spots later than that—in what some might argue was a similar situation. Except that McDaniels had to trade SOMETHING to acquire Brady Quinn, which only just happened. Imagine trading for Chris Henry and then drafting CJ in the 1st round! That is essentially what the Broncos just did.

I like the Morgan pick
It may not be the sexy pic some were hoping for, but we got a DE that was rated as the #1 DE by quite a few respectable people at 16. I dont see how we can complain about that.
