Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Lowered Expectations Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Jeff Fisher does what members of the Titans organization do: tell fans to lower your expectations regarding a big time roster move so as to not breed disappointment later on.  Specifically, Coach Fisher commented on the Albert Haynesworth saga, saying that he hasn't talked with Mike Shanahan, and there haven't been any war meetings on how to get Albert back.  That's classic Fisher to deny everything except the fact that they'd have to be interested if the price is reasonable (not that I'm complaining; I'm in the same boat).

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Bleeding two stories out of one appearance by Fisher (at former D-lineman Kevin Carter's charity event), Wyatt relays that Kerry Collins is still the no. 2 QB, despite the signing of Chris Simms.  Of course that's still the case when everyone is in shorts and t-shirts, but lets see if that's the case as training camp progresses later in the summer.  If Simms can pull even with Kerry, well... I can't see the Titans paying $5 million for a 3rd string QB.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Checking back in on the Fanhouse's reader-driven mock draft voting, as it currently stands JPP is winning by a mile. If it's any consolation to the folks who detest this pick, the more it gets bandied about and expected, the less likely it is to actually happen if you look at our draft history.

Follow us through the jump for more...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Former Titan Samari  Rolle has been cut by the Ravens, which is no surprise after he missed all of 2009 with a neck injury and has generally suffered through injuries the past several years. He was already declining physically when he was part of the 2004 cap purge, so you have to believe that this is the end of the line for the former Pro Bowler.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Titans Caravan visited several schools in Marshall County on Monday (interesting note: this may be the happiest teachers have been to see a huge raccoon running around their hallways.), and they talked to the kids about the importance of TCAP testing.  If you grew up in this state there's only one statement that runs through your head when you read or here "TCAP": "Fill in the bubble completely, make your mark heavy and dark and stay inside the circle". That's seared into my brain like it was a brainwashing trigger from the Manchurian Candidate.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Gramsey sent along this link to a Chattanooga Times Free Press article covering Titans fans who were excited by the team's late season surge in 2009.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 A few days ago I linked to Gary Horton's preview of the Titans, and now fellow ESPN scribe Paul K has chimed in on the content of the article.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The big string of impact off-season trades continues as the Broncos have traded career woman-beater Brandon Marshall to the Dolphins for this year's and next year's second-round picks. Here's to hoping Marshall can turn over a new leaf, while knowing it probably ain't going to happen.

“A quick story about Vince,” Keith said. "We asked him to lead off the Caravan this year. He was asked to be there at 7:45 Monday morning. He was there at 7:25. He did two school programs for us. He signed over 1,500 autographs. And he was as good at the end of the day as he was at the start.

Glad Marshall went to the dolphins

now we can stop hearing about him and some people can stop complaining saying he should be a Titan

Now that the Dophins have Marshall

word is Ginn is now available for trade. If Jeff Fisher does not trade for him to be our kickoff/punt returner, I will find him, hold him down and shave off his mustache.

Don't hold your breath.

Fish and Co. don’t trade for players unless they are unproven Tight End prospects/projects that they have no intention of putting on the field. In that case, they’ll gladly give up a second round pick.

absolutely right

word is the dolphins are trying to, “give him away”…..which means we’ll probably overpay and extend a long term contract and somehow still not get him

I watched an interview with Fisher..

About bringing back Al, and it was classic Fisher .. vague and telling what seemed to be partial truths. Trying not tipping his hand either way. But, I got the feeling after hearing him, that he’s been in contact with someone in Washington, just not Shanahan. Yet. Of course, that’s just the impression I got, and I could be way of base.

Jonathan Hutton says that Fisher may not have talked to em, but the team has

But the Titans have. RT @ProFootballTalk: Jeff Fisher says he hasn’t talked to Redskins about Haynesworth

I am really sick of Fisher’s crap.

Apparently then my impression was correct.

Or, he just did a great job of being misleading.

by J3G77 on Apr 14, 2010 11:10 AM CDT up reply actions

Isn't he doing what most coaches do anyways though?

It wasn’t like Tony Sparano was negotiating the Marshall deal through the media or making it known to the fans that he was actively pursuing him. Plus, if Fisher were to come out and say that we’re really, really interested, don’t you think the price of Albert goes up a bit? And you’re really not supposed to talk about another team’s player.

Well, there is a difference between "not talking about it" and "being intentionally misleading."

Instead of “I haven’t talked to the Redskins about Haynesworth.” He could say “We have no plans to bring Haynesworth back.” Which would be the truth. Right now.

It’s like he goes out of his way to flex his ego.

it's like you go out of your way to criticize fisher

it’s the smart thing to do. you don’t want to tip your hand. and who is to say fisher isn’t telling the truth? any proof he personally has talked to the skins?

Here is Fisher's quote:

"There has been some speculation that I’ve had conversations with Mike Shanahan, which is false,’’ Fisher said. "I have not had behind-the-scenes meetings with our people. There have been no discussions. He is under contract with the Redskins and we are dwelling on the draft right now."

And we know that someone with the Titans has discussed a deal for Haynesworth with the Redskins. So either he is bald faced liar, or he doesn’t know what his staff is doing, which I don’t believe either.

Sounds like he is really running an efficient operation.

You're misreading this gramsey.

It’s known that Fisher and Shanahan are friends, so the speculation was that he was using his personal influence with Shanahan to reach a mutually beneficial decision. Fisher says that is not the case and that the staff is not focused on bringing Big Al here. The staff is focused on the draft. He’s NOT saying that they haven’t looked at Big Al getting back or even made an offer to the Redskins. He’s saying specifically he hasn’t used his personal influence to push the deal along.

I still don't believe him.

But I will concede that Jeff Fisher could tell me the sky was blue and I would call him a liar.

Other than that, I am completely impartial!

They all lie

no biggie. If the media didn’t ask them questions that they very well know they aren’t going to answer truthfully in the first place, then they wouldn’t lie. But they do, so they do. I just ignore this kind of stuff. If it happens, it happens, if it don’t, it don’t.

I care more about Fisher’s “never admit a mistake” personality issue than I do his lying outright to media.

Okay, fair enough point

He does certainly hold onto any information a long, long time.

To NFL.com we (and Detroit) are still interested…according to league “sources”

Like What I See

Not only from VY, but also Fisher. U cant come out & say ur going for Al, or teams will lineup for him. I doubt it happens, but would love to see it.
With VY, what a complete 180 for the guy. I’m so happy that he got his sh!t together. He may never lead the leauge in passing stats, but thats not what we need from him. This year he has to be a leader. Has to keep his head up thru down times. I think he has turned the corner.
As for Ginn, as a Buckeye I would LOVE it! Perfect fit for returner & could be the 3rd/4th WR. I would play Ginn over Gage right now. That would be alota speed on the field with CJ, Nate,&Ginn! But…we all know they wont get it done.

would you.....

trade our 3rd for ginn, or use our compensatory selection on jacoby ford as TSN has us doing?
