NFL Free Agency Saturday Open Thread

The first day of free agency has come an gone and there have been a lot of moves.  Some of the marquee ones include Julius Peppers to the BearsKarlos Dansby to the DolphinsAntrell Rolle to the Giants, and Anquan Boldin to the Ravens in a trade.  (Click on the links above to see what the SB community for each club is saying about the deal)

The Bears were the most active team on day one signing Chester Taylor and Brandon Manumaleuna in addition to Peppers.  This makes sense considering they have limited draft picks because of last year's trade for Jay Cutler!!!!!111!!!!!!!1.

The Titans might make a move next week.  Use this thread to discuss any news that breaks today.

Change the system

we need to start getting some legit players in free agency… not like jovan haye and nate washington. obviously the titans system of building a team doesnt work because we have 0 lombardis

Please do something

I will be extremely angry if the Titans don’t sign anyone by the end of today. There lack of competitive nature in the FA market is exactly why we werent in the playoffs last year and also why we wont be in them this year, as well as why we have this many superbowl wins(0).
Titans FO DO SOMETHING

The Redskins are consitently bad because their owner thinks exactly like this ^^^

We all know that the Titans will not overpay a “big name” free agent. So we, as fans, have to hope that the players the do sign become very good values ie: KVB, Tony Brown, Jake Scott, Justin Gage…etc. Not a single one of those guys was a “big name”, but every one of them has been a valuable addition to the Titans.

Hi, I plan on cashing your checks for awhile but not doing much then returning to the Titans for a brief resurgence before retiring. No wait, we did that one already.

So I was playing Madden 08 with my bud today.

He chose the Jags and I chose the Titans. On the very last play of the half I was up 27-0 Due to 2 interceptions for touchdowns. It was his ball on the 22. He chose a play action and Michael Griffin (who plays corner in the game) flies up to stop the run. My friend promptly throws a touchdown over his head.

lol

that is bad!

Why didn’t you move him back to Safety?

When I play I always make the Depth Chart like it would be played in real life…

except I started putting Rod Hood in for Nick Harper… and I put Lavelle in KR / PR Duties :)

by RhiNo6705 on Mar 6, 2010 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

A couple of reasons I didn't

He is better than the cornerback who is supposed to go there. 2. The other safety is better than Michael Griffin. So I found it natural. Oh and Rod Hood isn’t on the Titans roster in Madden 08. Oh and Harper is rated 84 in the game, which is about average. We all know how that is wrong.

I like Griff

i dont know why he had a slump last year. but i hope he gets back to form. towards the end of the season he looked better. Do you think he became complacent and just didnt study as much as he did his second year? i have his autograph on a mini hemet. i want that to go up in value!!!!

by ibleedtitansblue on Mar 6, 2010 6:19 PM CST reply actions

Every year its the same thing guys...............

The Titans will never over pay people or pick up any BIG NAME free agents, its just not the way they do things, the only person I expect to get a big pay day from us is CJ and maybe Vince depending on the next couple of years, and thats it. I for one am glad we don’t over pay and waste money. Not sayin Peppers isn’t worth it, but look at the Redskins and Raiders, do we really want to be like them??? We had a better season than both of those teams for the last 2 years, and I for one trust Fish and the FO. I think everyone needs to just chill. It’ll be ok, we’ve always built through the draft, and even tho we have no superbowl wins neither do the Bills, Bengals, Chargers, Eagles, Vikings, Panthers, Falcons, Seahawks, Cardinals and the Browns, Texans, Jaguars, and Lions have never even played in one.

I agree with you...

people need to chill and trust the FO.

Sure we would like to sign some big name free agents… but there is a reason they are let go from their respective teams.

Now we have no super bowl wins true… but half of those teams HAVE gone to the SuperBowl and some have even won!

Just sayin’….!

Here is the problem

3 years ago the defense had KVB, Bulluck, Thornton, Albert and Finnegan who were all considered to be good, better than average players. Now who on the defense is an above average player? Finnegan. This could be the worst defense in the league next year and if you guys have already forgotten our schedule it is BRUTAL! This looks like a 4-12 team. Sorry to you guys who say “trust the front office”, I don’t trust Bud. No salary cap this year also means no salary floor. It looks like all that money that has been spent on the free agents who aren’t returning (and thats a big chunk of change) is going back in Bud’s pocket. I have never been mor frustated with this team than the past 12 months.

have a lil faith

well have around 16 rank defense and a very electric offense. im not worried

by ibleedtitansblue on Mar 7, 2010 4:33 PM CST up reply actions

I am trying

I hope they pull a rabbit out of their hat, or a DE for that matter. If they don’t fill some of these holes this offseason, their will be even more to fill next year with Thornton and Hope in the last year of their contract. Babin isn’t going to get it done.

by Stormcrow on Mar 7, 2010 5:47 PM CST up reply actions

I completely agree.

The last 12 months have been pretty much the most depressing 12 months of Titan fandom that I can remember. Even when the team was actively BAD, you had the sense that it was temporary. Right now, I feel like the NFL is simply moving beyond the current administration’s systems and abilities.

The Titans are reminiscent of one of those teams that doesn’t try to be competitive but just tries to milk as much money as it can by being mediocre and playing in a popular League. And I HATE it.

I will rant for another minute

I understand the Titans want to build through the draft, but to do that we can’t keep throwing away our second round picks on guys like Lendale and Chris Henry. I still have hope for Marks, Jones and Cook, but any and all of those guys could be busts. The more busts we have the more the the Titans should be particitpating in free agency. The holes have to be filled. We cannot start the season with Mouton as a starting corner and Ford as a starting DE and expect to be a .500 team. Not to mention what happens when one of those guys go down. The depth at those two positions and LB is the worst it has been since the 4-12 years.

by SouthTexasTitan on Mar 7, 2010 2:22 PM CST reply actions

They are trying maybe....

I been warning people for months we had too many holes to fill, now people are starting to count the holes. Now the FO is starting to recognize these holes and are slowly filling in the gaps worst than cement without water. They shored up the easy signings like Allred, Otto, Amano(overpaid). Then they sign players Most of Society has never heard of like Pago & Babin. Hopefully they are awesome special team players.

Even if the Tony Brown signing is for real, we still have not signed Tulloch or Scaife. We will be in the worst position if those 3 do not get resigned. I think most Titan fans agree our starters will most likely be Ford, Jones, Brown, Tulloch, McRath will make up the first part of the front 7. So if we Sign Will Witherspoon & another veteran DE like Greg Ellis (7.0 sacks in 09’) to compete with William Hayes. Then we can draft the best Safety available like Earl Thomas and draft DE in the third round for depth. So when training camp comes, move Griffin to #2 CB and now you can even sign that Harper guy the FO loves so much and he can play our nickel corner ALL GAME. That way Harper can play ZONE for 4 quarters since that is all the football he knows! Being #16 in a defensive heavy draft scheme; I predict JPP, Derrick Morgan, 4 DTs, Berry, McClain, Weatherspoon, 3 Ts, & 1 QB (Clausen) to all be gone. Which means WE GET TO PICK ANY SECONDARY PLAYER BESIDES BERRY WE WANT! DRAFT A SAFETY!

Those 3 are technically signed

just not to long term deals.
