Tennessee Titans Morning Links: You're Clever, It Ain't Gonna Help You Edition
Worried about Keith Bulluck signing somewhere else soon? Don't be: he's still in rehab for his knee, so no doctor would sign-off on the physical for a while. That means there's no huge immediate rush to make something happen from Keith's side or the Titans side until he can pass a physical. That makes me feel a little better.
Given that point, lets just hope the talks between K-Bull and the Titans aren't coming to a complete stop, stop... like in Gunman by supergroup Them Crooked Vultures! Who knew that apparently you have to get a bunch of legends together to make a straight rock n' roll record these days. Whatever it takes, I'm damned sure glad they did it.
Eight Titans in total are now free agents who can sign with any team they please, including Boom King, Kevin Mawae, Keith Bulluck, Nick Harper, Alge Crumpler, Rod Hood, Kevin Kaesviharn and Nick Harper. (in case you're wondering my opinion: meh, keep, keep, ditch, keep, keep, ditch, ditch like hell)
Follow us through the jump for much, much more on free agency possibilities and where Cromatrtie ended up...
The last deal the Titans made before the opening of free agency was a two year extension for trusted long snapper Ken Amato, which I definitely approve of. I can't think of the last time Amato seriously botched a snap, and that's all the endorsement I need to keep him in the fold.
Jim Wyatt goes to bat for his boy, KVB, saying that he deserved better than the cold shoulder the Titans have shown him over the past few months. I know I've made that same statement about Bulluck, but the difference is that KB has still been insanely productive (KVB hasn't been in 2 years) and Bulluck has been here twice as long. I think we all knew that KVB was only coming back if there was a complete lack of interest out there, but it looks like for the second year in a row Schwartz is making it a priority to snatch-up the guys who got him the Lions job in the first place.
McCormick handicaps the Titans' free agents chance of returning. All you really need to know is that K-Bull clocks-in at 20% :~( .
Apparently the Ravens are terrified that Derrick Mason (gramsey's favorite ex-Titan) wants to return home and rejoin the Titans. I hadn't really thought of it, but he'd make a solid option next to Kenny Britt, and might let Britt focus more on down the field routes.
Forget your dreams of a LenDale for Cromatrtie trade: the Jets landed the mercurial, notoriously soft CB last night by trading a 3rd round pick.
PFW takes a look at whether KVB can retain his status as an impact DE after two years lost to injury and ineffectiveness. The real answer is probably not, but if he can stay healthy and land in a spot where he's got Pro Bowl caliber talent next to him he'll help someone.
Don Banks looks at where the top free agents should sign, and he pegs us as the best landing spot for Texans CB Dunta Robinson. I'd be all for that, as it seems like a lot of his declining play over the past year or two stem from his intense unhappiness with how the front office handled his contract situation. You sign him here and that wouldn't be an issue anymore.
Have a great weekend!

"What if I was Peyton Manning?"- CJ to the ref after they picked up a personal foul flag for a late hit on him.
Is it official?
I’d love to see him in a Titans uniform, at the very least to provide us some veteran depth.

A-Dub
you hate Harper so much that you ditched him twice.

Derrick "Favre" Mason
I thought he tried to retire LAST year. Now he wants a mulit-year deal? I’d let him be.
"And with the 16th pick, the Tennessee Titans select..."
I understand how you feel, but...
… he would be a good addition IMHO. Opposite Britt, he’d be what we keep hoping Justin Gage can become.

But he wouldn't
And we don’t need anyone else keeping Britt off of the field

Fire Jeff Fisher.
No disagreement there.
I’m looking at displacing Gage.

I don't really have issues with Gage.
If you take him for what he is, a good #2 receiver. I think he and Vince have some chemistry.
Again, I agree with this.
Britt ought to be on the field for nearly every play. That is not at all my argument here.

Oh I know.
I am just arguing that if we sign Mason, your top 3 receivers (according to your head coach) would be Gage, Mason and Hands.
I mean, he wouldn’t even start Britt at the end of last season and it is obvious to everyone in the universe except him that Britt is the best receiver that the Titans have had.

not just britt
but the hawk too. mason would be a 2 to replace gage, and im pretty meh to the both of them. half a dozen/6 type of deal. hands is agood 3rd if fish forgets what hes making. but we need hawk as that 4th, he came up big every time we used him last season
Perhaps. But he has too many drops.
Mason can actually catch.

If Dunta Robinson doesn't like .......
the way the front office handled his contract situation, I’m not sure the Titans is really the team for him….if you know what I mean.
well he'd have a new contract here
that was the whole problem with Houston
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
I dunno
He’s been accused of being soft and he has some off-the-field issues.
Then again, I hope that he sabotages everything that the Jets do as long as Rex Ryan is their coach.
He's a good player in an inept system.
They weren’t getting the pressure last year because of Merriman’s injury, and in fact, that once feared Chargers’ Defense has been on the decline for awhile—pretty much ever since Schottenheimer left. I mean, they didn’t call him T.E. Cottrel for nothing. The man couldn’t even coach in the UFL, let alone D-Coordinate for the Chargers. And last year was even worse!
He’ll be fine in NY. I mean, he might get picked on playing opposite what’s-his-name, but he’s gonna be a legitimate upgrade in a system that gets TONS of pressure.

That's always a big key with Secondary play.

Y'all need a CB.
I have two words for you: Tim. Jennings.
Think about it, let it soak in, love it.
