Is it possible for the titans....
to get eric berry in the draft? i know we need pass rushers but he's just to good of a talent in the draft to pass up. he played all four secondary positions and sayin "hey, we already got Chris Hope" is like sayin two years ago "hey, why get CJ when we already got lendale white?" besides the titans picked jason babin or whatever they shud just do what they do best and pick old, cheap at-best average veteran free-agents and score big in the draft. Just my two cents.

Not to be rude
But, do you have any idea what’s going on in this draft? Their is no way that Eric Berry could even come close to the jags let alone the 16th pick. So are you saying we trade up? Do you know what that would take? Are is this what you would like the team to do.

WISHLIST....
This is what he would like or WANTS the team to do. I want the team to trade down and draft CB Then DE. But these picks and options is not for us to decide. It’s for the FO to decide.
Berry will be a Buc, Brown, Seahawk, Jag, 49er, or Giant who are ALL infront of us. That is 6 teams. The Seahawks have TWO picks infront of us. The 49ers have one before us and right after us. So NO PEOPLE, get this stuck in your lil head. ERIC BERRY will NOT be available once the TOP 10 is done.

My bad COfan. Peeps are an a** to me when my comments are wrong or ill-advised. What good does it do if I don’t do the same that was done to me & try to show mercy. If I wasn’t an a** by being a good example; nobody would have cared and then chew me out for agreeing with him. This is how life works. There will always be good cop/ bad cop in our society because, (our) society produces blame. It was wrong of me to be rude, yet he is still entitled for his opinion. I suppose I feel like Superhorn, when he posted on 1 of my comments “haven’t we already been over this”
There is a huge possibility w/ Haden, Kyle Wilson, Earl Thomas, & Taylor Mays could all be available at #16. Anyone really see Mike R. NOT drafting a DE?
a beautiful pipe dream
it would require a pretty significant trade up into the 5-7 range. unless we can sell a team like seattle on lendale and/or scaife + pick #16 there is no chance. i bet KC snatches him up if he is there. pioli comes from the pats school of drafting, which is all about best value regardless of need. there are few things more valuable than a guy who can dominate at every position in the secondary.

Re:

That should be the only way to draft in the first round, with the exception of the QB position.
LT might be another position
if you already have it locked down
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Agree. I'm a little more flexible on that, though, because you can move a talented lineman around kind of like Baltimore did with Michael Oher this year.
A good 1st round QB on the other hand is just going to sit on the bench and collect fat checks.
how is trading up
10 spots in exchange for our first and say, third and seventh rounders.
yes this is just a wishlist, I’d also like us to trade whatever we have to so we could get Champ Bailey to star opposite CF. IK it aint gonna happen but its more likely then that other post of us tradin our 1st rounder to Tampa and gettin all those picks.

So a 1st, 3rd, and 7th for a safety. Are you sure you know how the NFL works?

I’m speculating my ass off here when it comes to the draft stuff.

Not pretending to be an expert. Sorry if I gave the impression.

good one
Everyone “thinks” they are an expert on here. I will speak on that possibility. IF rams – suh, lions – Okung, bucs – mccoy, bradford – skins, chiefs – OT, hawks – spiller, browns – Haden, raiders – OT, bills – Clausen, jags – Bryant, broncos – mcclain, fins – kindle, 49ers – OT, hawks – morgan, Giants – Spoon. THEN wow. it seems IMpossible once you add it up.
Then we could move to Griffin to CB or have Berry play CB or FS? I wonder which would work better???
Still hoping for Kyle Wilson…

If you draft Berry, you draft him as a safety and let him do his thing. Griffin/Berry can both play FS and SS. Pretty sure Berry has played both, and I know Griffin has played both in college.
Berry has played all positions except Lineman!
At UT, he has lined up @ FS, SS, CB, Nickel Corner, OLB. Monte placed him all over the field as teams would game plan to not look his way! The kid can play any position in the books.
He will be a Buc!

Is it sad that I thought the answer was "NO" before I even opened up the post to finish reading the question?
Anyway, now that I have read the question, the answer is still “no.”
He won’t be there at our pick, and we aren’t going to move up to get him.
Agreed...
Not going to happen, not going to think about it.
The Titans are not
drafting Eric Berry. Period. There’s too many other prospects at positions that are way more urgent to fill. This scenario is almost as ridiculous as saying the Titans would trade up to draft Sam Bradford because they might need a starting QB in a couple of years.

if berry were there (which he won't be)
and they passed on him, i would be done with the titans forever. do you remember how terrible the secondary was? im pretty sure it qualifies as an urgent need, and berry can do everything and play every position. we need d-line help for sure, but we know we can coach up less glamorous prospects there. you don’t pass on a once in a lifetime talent like berry without a damn good reason.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Exactly.
The draft is an enormous crap shoot. Further limiting yourself by drafting for only two or three needs (LB, CB, DE) is a huge mistake. The Chris Johnson pick shows that this front office feels the same way. I think Berry could have a healthy Bob Sanders kind of impact. You don’t pass up on that just because you need a defensive end.
THANK YOU
I wish someone could send the FO the last 3 comments! I been trying to push this idea in posts for awhile. A rookie is just a rookie and when teams draft for need, they are only getting whatever is there and missing the bigger picture.
Smart TEAMS ARE Supposed to DRAFT the BEST PLAYER AVAILABLE! Not because we need a DE! We also need a #2 CB. We also need OLB depth. We also need depth behind C Leroy Harris. The list goes on and on. Every year there are needs, but those CJs & Deion Sanders don’t arrive every year! Eric Berry has arrived & I would give up 2 first round picks for him. Would YOU???? Probably not, just like our FO!
THIS TEAM DOES DRAFT THE BEST AVAILABLE, DUMBASS

Serious?
I suppose Cook & Britt haven’t shown their true colors given it’s only been one year. I suppose all those second round WRs including Chris Henry were “the best player available” as well. I agree we have done that successfully in the first round until last year.
by titanwarrior1 on Mar 23, 2010 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions
We have never drafted a WR named Chris Henry

You seem to be separating "Best Available" and "what actually happens and plays out"
Cook is a perfect example of not only picking the best available, but actively trading to get what the Titans regarded as best available. We had Scaife, Crumpler, and Stevens. We didn’t need another TE. So to answer your question, yes, Cook was the best available.
And it looks like that’s true for Kenny Britt. Frankly, I think we got the best Wide Receiver from last year’s draft. So what are your problems with those picks?

Britt
You are right about Cook, he just hasn’t showed up for us yet. I like this pick now that Crump is gone and we don’t have to draft a TE.
I don’t believe Britt was the best player available. He was the best WR available at that time. His acceleration & route running are off the charts in Madden. They gave him bad ratings on speed & awareness (like any rook). James Laurinaitis, Rey Maualuga, Jairus Byrd, Darius Butler were all guys I thought were more talented than Britt. If Britt can become an elite WR in a few years, then I will admit I’m wrong. Elite also means making plays like DeSean Jackson, Andre Johnson, or CJ2K. It will be tough for Kenny to become elite given he only receives 5-8 targets a game.

Had any of those players going above Kenny Britt.

Rookie Year Comparison
Andre Johnson – 66 Receptions 976 Yards 14.8 YPR 4 TDs 16 Games Started
Desean Jackson – 62 Receptions 912 yards 14.7 YPR 2 TDs 15 Games Started
Kenny Britt – 42 Receptions 701 Yards 16.7 YPR 3 TDs 6 Games Started
The guy can only produce as much as the coaches will put him on the field. He’s got a better YPR average and TD/game started average. What more do you want?

dude
i dunno if you remember this guys from 2 years ago— chris johnson? goes by CJ2K these days. ring any bells? we picked him even with a 1000 yard rusher in hand from the previous year.
the chris henry pick, though terrible, was also an example of going for what they thought was “best available”. they just screwed up and only judged his workout numbers, which were admittedly off the charts. too bad the combine doesn’t have a vision test..
and no good team completely ignores need. we picked britt because he looked really good AND filled an obvious need. the same logic goes for the vince pick too. i’d say the proper mix in the 1st round is somewhere around 80% pure talent, 20% need.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
No one coming out of college.
Knowing what I know now, of course (vomits in mouth).
I’m saying that even if a guy appears to project really well to the NFL, giving up two first round picks is a huge risk. There have been too many busts, and even if he isn’t a bust, there’s always an injury risk.
Yep
I totally agree with this.

the bears gave up two 1st rounders for cutler.....
Yea i guess you’re right superhorn. those desperate bears…..
Must be a hate/ love thing with need vs talent.
I suppose your implying its okay then to trade those two picks for a proven NFL player like Cutler, just not rooks right? – even if some peeps may think that rookie may become the next or almost as talented as CJ2K, Primetime, LT, Pinball, TO, or even Peyton.
Since Berry is over-rated then with his turf toe inj, let’s hope we land Earl Thomas as he is going through the same thing CJ2k did 2 years ago. All the scouts were glamoring McFadden, Stewart, Jones, & Mendenhall and gave CJ no love for being small.
“Never doubt the other man’s greed” Odds also have this reverse effect on games.
Re:

Yes. I could deal with trading two first rounders for someone we felt was a surefire franchise QB with NFL experience. Other than that, I’d have issues with it.
The problem is every year there is a guy coming out that people think will be the next (insert HOF positional player). Rarely is that the case. The example that comes to mind is Reggie Bush. The next Gale Sayers. He’s still a unique talent, just not one that’s translated well enough to the NFL to warrant two first rounders.
I like Eric Berry
But I don’t see him as the next Primetime or CJ2K. I think he could be Ed Reed, which is really freaking good, but Ed Reed is no Primetime and even the best Safety in the NFL just inherently doesn’t have the same effect on a football game as a transcendent Runningback like Chris Johnson.

If Eric Berry dropped to where the Titans are
A lot of GM’s in the top 15 would need to be fired. Immediately. And the Titans would have to give up a prohibitive amount to trade up to get him.
