Tennessee Titans Morning Links: September Girls Do So Much Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Paul K delivers the book on last year's biggest disappointment, TE Jared Cook.  There are some good quotes from 'Dinger in there, and the OC doesn't sound like he'd have much tolerance for a similarly disappointing campaign from Cook this year.  Here's the money shot:
Then he suffered an ankle sprain and disappeared. Tennessee got nine catches for 74 yards out of him in 14 games, and the word out of team headquarters was his confidence plummeted and he did nothing to force the Titans to get him on the field.

"He needs to become much more consistent week to week if he’s going to play for us," offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said this week. "He has to be more consistent in everything before he can play."
Tennessee_titans_30x21 Wednesday we lost one of the greatest musicians ever born in the great state of Tennessee, Alex Chilton.  He was the leader and creative driving force behind one of the great bands not enough people listened to, Big Star.  Here's their cut September Gurls.  Big Star's career had one continuous theme: rave reviews and zero album distribution.  If you dive into their catalogue you'll here the missing link between The Beatles and later bands like The Replacements, Superdrag and R.E.M.  Chilton's career extended well past Big Star, so please take some time and do a little digging sometime soon, because I think you'll like what you find.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 All world safety Eric Berry suffered a toe injury that cut his pro day workout short yesterday.  The injury is described as minor, and shouldn't affect his draft status.

Follow us through the jump for more linky goodness...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Everyone who is a big fan of Georgia Tech DE Derrick Morgan will like Shutdown Corner's Post-Free Agency Mock Draft.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 There's been a lot of back and forth in the comments about whether the Titans should just sell-oout and go all offense, and if they did choose that route they could do a lot worse than Ole Miss prodigy Dexter McCluster, who will be in for a private workout with the Titans soon.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Former Oilers/Titans and Eagles RT Jon Runyan is set to run for Congress against incumbent democrat John Adler in a district that represents the Jersey shore to the Philadelphia suburbs.  Runyan's platform will be to curb federal spending.  That is all.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Alge Crumpler is indeed going to the Patriots, much to the delights of whoever manages the food budget over at Baptist Sports Park, I'm sure.  No deal has been signed yet, but there's been virtually no interest from the Titans front-office since Bo Scaife was given his sizable tender.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 On the heels of that story, Paul K gripes about the Titans letting all of their 'leadership' walk.  No doubt that Crump was probably a good influence in the locker room, but it's more than a stretch to contend he still had a spot in our gameplan with Scaife still in the fold and Cook and Stevens being held back duet o lack of opportunity.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Houston Texans get rid of one financially-minded malcontent, but now they may have created another in TE Owen Daniels.  Daniels is already talking about a holdout if a new deal isn't struck before camp opens.

Have a great weekend!

Hey August...

sorry about Vandy, dude. Same thing happened to my horns, just not in quite as dramatic fashion. But I’ve still got my Baylor Bears, baby!!! (My daughter is a junior there)

Thank you for the condolences....

that was a brutal game. It’s always worse when you think you’ve got the game won until the clock hits 0.00.

By the way, I was proud of East Tennessee State University

In five years, they’ll have a win against Kentucky on their resume. Go Bucs!!

Yeah screw all those annoying joke killers on Twitter

They get on my nerves. “You know, it’s not a win for ETSU, it’s just vacated.” Go f*** yourself.

Compressed formations?

I thought the idea was to spread the defenses out?

by titansfan4ever on Mar 19, 2010 11:20 AM CDT reply actions

Sigh...

You are aware every spread offense in the world uses a large variety of compressed formations or partially compressed formations?

Cook needing to be more consistent

So if he can drop the ball on EVERY 3rd down, he can play over Nate Washington?

..."There's been a lot of back and forth in the comments about whether the Titans should just sell-out and go all offense..."

Nah, but it’s clearly the strength of the team for 2010. I do advocate getting an impact WR opposite Britt, so that out big four positions are both set and potentially explosive. That way, we can just outscore teams while developing a young defense.

But the draft should probably be all defense (maybe a returner, too).
