Why can't the Titans ever make trades?

""Adam Caplan of Scout.com is reporting the Raiders have traded for linebacker Kamerion Wimbley for an undisclosed draft pick."

So the Raiders have gave a draft pick to the Browns for a very decent OLB.

The Broncos traded FB Peyton Hillis  to the browns for Quinn.

So where is the Titans FO in this desperate action of the Browns shipping their talent away for transition?

We could have traded our first round for Shaun Rodgers. Hopefully Wimbley is more over-rated than I hoped.

No where, as usual. We ONLY Build in the Draft. Whats the point of dreaming when there is no hope. No one makes it to the Super Bowl with all Rookies & a Spoon (joke). Saints got there with several lineman on both sides in FA, then they finished the bowl W/ the second year Rook!

Why does Jeff Fischer (his record isn't that great), Mike Reinsfeldt (hate this guy), Titans Recruiting Director ____, still have jobs for our team? When does this hot seat ever arise. I suppose after we have a losing season; then we can have a chance.

Wow I don't even know where to start

1. So you think that because everyone is giving draft picks to get players from Cleveland’s studly roster (that went 5-11 last year) that the Titans should join in and take what they can? By that reasoning do you also think we should all be downloading as many Lady Gaga songs as possible? I hear they’re very popular these days.
2. Shaun Rogers is 31, out of shape, only had 2 sacks last year and he plays nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. Why would we give our first round pick for him when we could just draft Dan Williams, Brian Price or a number of other 23 year olds that have 8+years ahead of them?
3. “No one makes it to the Super Bowl with all Rookies and a Spoon” ? I hope I totally missed that one because if you’re talking about Will Witherspoon and the rest of our defense then now I think I might feel bad for making fun of a mentally handicapped person.
4. The Saints got there with Gregg Williams running a complex defense full of vets that wanted to win a championship.
5. Jeff FISHER has more head coaching experience than any other current coach, Mike REINFELDT has never had a losing season with the Titans. And our Director of Scouting, Lake Dawson who joined in ‘07 and ran scouting on the past two drafts… of which only ONE player (Cary Williams) is not still on the Titans roster. That’s an extremely low percentage of turnover considering a team like the Ravens who only have Michael Oher from their six picks last year. So that’s why they all have jobs.

My question is how do you consider yourself a Titans fan when you can’t even spell the name of our coach that has been here for 16 years?

You missed something.
Jeff FISHER has more head coaching experience than any other current coach

Should read: Jeff FISHER has more head coaching experience than any other current coach AND still doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring.

would

one more yard and an OT win really have changed your opinion of him that much? is one WR receiver running one pattern a yard deeper and some coin toss luck THAT big of a statement about coaching ability?

wondering how a razor thin margin

in a single game that happened 10 years ago could create such a huge difference in perceived coaching ability.

I'm not even sure that matters any more.

Joe Gibbs has a Super Bowl ring, and I wouldn’t want him as our coach either.

I think Fisherball is outdated and it’s time for him to adapt or move on.

I really liked the reply in regards to trading for Shaun Rogers

This isn’t fantasy football. The teams you are comparing the Titans to are
1)The Cleveland Browns
2) The Oakland Raiders.

The third team that approaches trades in this way is the Washington Redskins. ELITE COMPANY!!! WHY CANT BUD ADAMS BE MORE LIKE AL DAVIS!!

Ladies & gentlemen, the winner of this year's free agency contest is......

the N.Y.Jets. IMO, this year’s team to represent the AFC in this year’s Super Bowl.

not that ridiculous

they made it one game away without jenkins this year and a rookie qb. AND rex ryan just had fat surgery, so the sky is the limit!

They'll be the AZ Cardinals

They might even miss the playoffs. 9-7, then a good run of 3 games. Then they sign LT to replace Thomas Jones. I will take this bet all day.

by T--Rac's Posse on Mar 16, 2010 3:56 PM CDT up reply actions

i mean obviously

picking against any single team this far out is a good bet. but i would say it’s about as safe as any other afc team besides indy.

san diego- crummy o-line, lots of holes on defense
pats- aging moss, broken welker, mediocre defense
pitt- qb is a tad too rapey for my tastes
ratbirds- decent pick if boldin has an impact year

who else? id put the jets above those 4.

Agreed

The Jets defence can already stop the run, have upgraded their pass d, and added a pretty damn good complimentary back in LT2, not to mention Sanchez coming in with a year’s worth of experience under his belt and a training camp with Braylon Edwards.

Take everything out of prospective

Black belt,
1. Yes the Browns & Raiders suck. Was I ever remotely comparing those teams to TEN? Of course not. We don’t wear bags on our heads nor believe Halloween occurs every Sunday. We don’t need a rookie DT, we need a rookie DE! Which is what our FO will draft. No matter what you do.

2. Yes, Shaun is over the hill. The point was we need 2 starters (CB & DE) with only 1 first round pick. We could have used another DT in FA (or trade). I suppose Brown (whenever he signs), Jones, Marks, Vickerson, & Haye is content with everyone. Does anyone really see our FO trading down the first pick we have to get two better picks? – NO

3/4. You give coaches too much credit. Good for Mr. Williams and his complex schemes. My article is all about what our team could be doing & what they haven’t done by allowing other teams to acquire KEY FA players to help the BUILDING players! We acquire minimal FAs, 0 trading, and RELY on our Building players. The Saints acquired in FA last two years Jabarri Greer, Darren Sharper, Mike Bell, Vilma, Shockey to assist the rookies of Jenkins & Porter (the one who made the INT, icing on the win). The players make it happen, the coaches job is to ensure they make no mistakes & call the next play.

5. I can spell Fishball’s name however I wish. If you don’t like it, then banish the right we all have, called the freedom of press! God & myself know I am a Titan. I don’t need your acceptance or misjudgement.

How about next time black belt, focus on the POINT instead of judging every stupid small mistake like spelling Fisher’s name. Or the fact of putting Rodgers name instead of some other DT.

We need another backup vet CB to play either nickel or compete with Hood. Fabian Washington, Carlos Rogers (booh), & Richard Marshall are still available last I checked. There are tons of other old CBs like Ty Law, Ken Lucas, Lito Sheppard floating around but they could be worse than that 3rd round player. But we will wait until third round to shore up this spot. SO :( !

prospective?

Ahh, PERSPECTIVE. I think I left it all in context. Your thoughts are so disorganized I can’t even tell what point you’re trying to make. You used examples of teams trading for Browns players and used an example of action taken by the Raiders and said the Titans should have gotten a player in the same way. The Titans FO doesn’t want to trade our first round pick and neither do I. You know why? Because this is a fantastic draft class. I don’t think they should have trade their first round pick for any player this year, especially not Shaun Rogers .. who you suggested as if it was an enormous bargain.

I give coaches too much credit? You’re right. They probably just stand on the sidelines and keep the gatorade filled up as they read off a list of plays. I also forgot that Greer, Sharper, Bell, Vilma and Shockey jointly won the super bowl because they’re badasses that came in from FA and trades. I’m sure it had NOTHING to do with the coaching staff. I guess it had nothing to do with an entire city willing their team to victory either. We just need to follow the plan of the previous Super Bowl winners every year. Obviously whatever worked for them will translate into our immediate success.

Next time I’ll try and focus on your POINT. Which is what again? I can’t tell amongst all the grammatical errors and misspellings. MY POINT is that fanboys like you should calm down about the lack of action to date in FA. It’s been like this just about everywhere. The draft isn’t for another MONTH and teams are still having pro days and scouting evaluations. Why would they spend all their money and trade leverage before they even have their draft board completed?

Were you absent when we went over this whole exercise?

How about this, I’ll rephrase it. Horribly average.

W-L record of .553. One AFC Championship in 15.5 years of coaching. 6 winning seasons. 4 losing seasons. 4 seasons at .500.

I firmly believe that over 50% of current or past coaches over the past decade could have done just as good a job given such a long tenure.

by SuperHorn on Mar 17, 2010 3:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Put it this way.

Regardless of Cap hell or whatever excuses we want to give. Would you let a coach stick around for 16 years when statistically he only produces a winning season 40% of the time?

*correction above. He has 5 seasons at .500.

bad isn't even close to the right word

so your implication in that post was completely off base and in no way accurate. above average is about right.

Is the distinction really that important to you?

I guess here’s the way I look at it. In nearly any other situation, Fisher would have been fired by now. In the NFL, average generally gets you labeled as bad. And, in a binary sense, I’m more inclined to call him a bad coach than I am to classify him as a good coach.

by SuperHorn on Mar 18, 2010 10:03 AM CDT up reply actions

Because

I don’t think a 3rd round CB is enough. Our great offense will not be able to keep out scoring whatever the D allows.

by titanwarrior1 on Mar 17, 2010 3:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Why

is a 3rd round CB not enough? Last year Mouton wasn’t enough because his confidence was obliterated during his horrible kick returning stint. Jerraud Powers started the Super Bowl for the Colts last year after being drafted in the 3rd. Finnegan went in the 6th, Asante Samuel went in the 3rd, Zack Bowman went in the fifth.

by I'm a black belt in karate, HI HI! on Mar 17, 2010 4:19 PM CDT up reply actions

in 10 months.....

Then Keep Mouton on the Defense & away from special teams. Draft Jacoby Ford and now we have our returner. Does that work?

After we draft Derrick Morgan and some third round CB. Then After the next season is over we finish 7-9; then tell me how great that third round CB, Hood, & Mouton were!
