Tennessee Titans Sign CB Rod Hood
The Titans have agreed to a new contract with CB Rod Hood according to @tennesseetitans. The terms of the deal were not released.
Hood played well in his time starting for the injured Nick Harper last season. He is not the answer opposite Cortland Finnegan, but he adds some much needed veteran depth to the position. Look for the Titans to add at least one more corner via free agency and/or the draft.

at least
Nick Harper could be counted on to tackle those guys he couldn’t cover. That Seattle game exposed Hood’s tackling ability a bit i thought.

meh
fine as a backup, but if he’s on the field much we are in trouble.

Idk
i think with consistent first team reps and practice he could be a starter, bbut id take Kyle Wilson instead.

I dont know why people hate hood so much
He had 3 interceptions in 3 games where the best of the alternative ( Harper ) had only 1 all season. Granted he might have just been in a good position to grab 2 of those interceptions, who cares. He came in, did a damn good job with the limited time he had to prepare; unlike Harper, Mouton, and McCourty who were on the team the entire time. I’m excited to see how he does next year.
I don't hate Hood
But if he’s The Answer™ to our secondary problems, then I’m going to be upset. He’s a quality player that can add some depth to our secondary, but he’s not a starter.
And it’s not hard to look better than Nick Harper.
Im just saying
Our entire secondary sucked bad last year aside from C. Finn. (naturally). It’s kinda hard to pick out a dude and say he was a problem when he came in half way through the year, never really got any time as a guaranteed starter, and still produced with the time he was out there. Oh well, like I said im excited to see what he can do with a whole off season under his belt.

all interceptions are not created equal
one was when TO let it go right through his hands on a slant, which hood covered terribly, as TO was wide open because hood was behind him.
another was where griffin made a fantastic play and tipped it to hood.
third was against when torry holt got screened off by the ref and the ball went right to him.
the point is, don’t mistake luck for quality.
did i mention he can’t tackle?
just ask the youtube:
the truth about rod hood

UGH 3rd and 22
MJD catches an open-field dump off and turns up field. It’s MJD vs Hood. I thought, “Man, this isn’t fair, MJD is going to level that poor guy.”
Nope- Hood maybe (MAYBE) got 2 fingers on him as MJD juked him out of his pants and ran for the first down.
The announcer hit it right on the head later on in the vid:
One thing that statistic doesn’t show? Bad tackling.
Like I said, he’s not the worst signing ever, as long as he’s not the only move we make to shore up the secondary.
Where you watching the same video that I was??
The play at 1:23 MJD goes through Hoods arms, Finn’s arms, Griffen’s arms… again, my point is the ENTIRE secondary was half retarded (you never go full retard) last year. You keep pointing out all the bad things Hood did, but no one else in the secondary was doing anything better! How about the textbook tackle from Griffen at 1:30…
where did i say he was the only problem
just because the other players stank too doesn’t make hood any better.

Very true
But you did post a video giving us “the truth about rod hood”, I apologize if your intentions in posting that wasn’t to point out the real truth about rod hood… my mistake.
ummm what?
that’s exactly what i meant to do. to point out that when he wasn’t getting fluky int’s dropped into his lap he was getting torched like nick harper AND missing tackles on a consistent basis. there’s a very good reason he was out of the league when we picked him up. you picked out one play where everyone in the secondary blew it. shit happens sometimes. but for finnegan that was the exception to his normal play, and griffin has at least shown in the past that he can be a great safety, even if he did lose his mind this past season.
rod hood is a bum. i can’t be any clearer than that. the combination of 3 lucky plays and the awful performance of the rotting corpse formerly known as nick harper last year has fooled some people into thinking that rod hood is some kind of upgrade. he isn’t. he’s a bum. like i said, it’s fine if he is just cheap veteran depth, but when he is on the field there will always be someone running wide open or making him look like a school girl trying to tackle.

I'm not seeing how he is a bum...
Nor am I saying he is the next Revis. I am just saying he better then any other alternative we have right now.
and im saying you are wrong
at least harper tackles
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
and now your defending Harper.
Your opinion no longer is valid.
Can we please agree that they both suck
And if either one of them are on the field at any time, we are suuuuucrewwwwwed.

facts are facts
harper was the #3 tackler on the team last year.

harper
actually LED THE TEAM in tackles per game. /begins drinking heavily

If we are posting facts
Hood was second on the team with interceptions.
yep
and all three were lucky, not the product of of good cover skills. the circular argument is now complete.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Pretty much
We haven’t really figured out anything. Bottom line, Hood is on the team still and well Harper isn’t. The End
Agreed.
I’ll bet anything that if he had been given reps with the first team even after Harper came back, he might have shown a lot more. The argument that some of his picks were just good fortune is bogus. He still had to hold on to the ball and make the play. Tying for a team lead in interceptions when you’ve barely seen the field says something.

so
by being totally out of position against TO on a slant, that was a good play because TO screwed up and it went right to him?

You can argue that every INT thrown is the fault of the QB and the receiver.
by DoofusOfErasmus on Mar 12, 2010 11:53 PM CST up reply actions
and it would be a stupid argument
like pey pey’s int in the super bowl. porter made a perfect read and jumped the route. that’s a fantastic play by a corner to recognize the route before it happens and to make the right gamble. if rod hood ever did something like that, i would praise him thoroughly. be he hasn’t made that kind of play, because he is a bum. 2 tipped balls and a referee setting a pick on the WR don’t even come close to something like that. sorry you can’t see that.
griffin made the great play on one of the picks, hood was just lucky to be there trailing his man, whom he couldn’t cover, while griffin saved his sorry bum ass.
when you are several feet behind the WR on a slant, that’s shitty, bum coverage. well, TO made and even shittier attempt at catching the ball, so rod hood’s shitty coverage was rewarded.
the third was the least fluky, i guess, and it involved a WR running smack into the ref and falling down, leaving hood as the only one to make the catch. i say it’s the least fluky because hood was actually doing something that looked a little like coverage on a WR, which is pretty rare to see out of him, as he is, of course, a bum.

Good signing
We need a veteran at CB. He can definately be to this team what Chris Carr and Eric King were to the 2008 team.
wtf?
they dont play him all year, then they sign him? and wasnt fishers response that he didnt play special teams? this signing makes no sense. a guy the team says is a backup that cant play special teams; thats who they decide to sign. fantastic
This is WHY we signed him.
I we signed a NEW CB via free agency or the Cromartie deal the Jets got, then most would think we wouldn’t be drafting a secondary. Now I guess the point of this is to make some other teams “think” we are not grabbing a CB/ S. I rather use that first pick on an awesome secondary like Earl Thomas, Kyle Wilson, Myron Rolle, or even Taylor Mays & draft a value DE third round. But it will be vice versa most likely. One mock draft maker stated we would draft a C in that third round but obviously thats not going to happen.
Solid Decision
Whats up MCM.. This is my first post. Long time Reader.. I Agree with it being a good decision to bring Rod Hood Back. know the system and will get better if he gets playing time… Anything is better than Nick Harper at the Moment…. Hope we draft a CB in the First and DE in later Rounds. DE is Strong in this years Draft. But who know what The FO Will Do…

I still want a decent FA CB added
This signing does not change that, in any way, at all. If they rely on draft only for additional CB bolstering, they are screwing the pooch, and we will be 20 something or 30 something on pass defense ranking again next year.
NFL Defensive rookie of the year
Since 1967, 43 selections, breakdown:
Cornerback – 6 times, none in the past 10 years.
Linebacker – 22 times
Defensive End – 8 times
Defensive Tackle – 5 times
Safety – 2 times
Rookie corners just don’t come in and have eye-popping years very often.
Draft a linebacker and a defensive end high, get a solid known corner in FA. There are still some reasonable ones free, yes?
I think it's so funny
that we’re still debating about Hood’s interceptions. It’s is a loooooooooooooooog offseason.
For the record, I’m on the side that he was lucky.
Totally going to be a long offseason
I think I was just really bored at work and wanted to stir crap up. ahhhhH!!!! come on draft!!!
where's the loyalty to the warrior
look i love the blue. i bleed it ,but im tired of loosing good talent every year.we are known for defense now who are we. our offensive passing game is still unproven and without that pass rush we are back in new england.we show no loyalty and we are always just going to barely miss cause we play players that normally were back ups in other systems. and the only garuntee is jeff on sideline. maybe we should suit him up and fix our pass rush,he seems to do no wrong.wow 0-6 and that 80 year owner can see we need a change.somethings got to change ASAP.
