Tennessee Titans Morning Links: CJ2K Is Still The Fastest Evah Edition
Tony Brown has had preliminary talks with the front office about a long-term contract. He and the team have until Friday to get something done, or you can expect the Titans to keep Brown with a one-year tender in the RFA market. Wyatt also reports that Jevon Kearse has definitely seen his last days as a Titan already. Now Kearse is just hoping to catch on with someone, anyone who will give him a one last shot.
Fisher let it be known this weekend that the Titans intend to pay Vince his $4.25 million roster bonus that's due on March 10th, rather than raise a stink over his contract.
Jim Wyatt talked with Jonathan Hutton from Titans Radio about the combine, who the Titans' were looking closest at and how some local prospects fared at the Indy-based cattle call.
Follow us through the jump for more on the Titans and the combine:
Speaking of local products, super-athelete Golden Tate certainly helped his stock (and hurt our chances of him slipping to us in the 3rd by running an official (someone explain to Hutton and Trindon Holliday what that is, please) 4.36 40 at the combine. That number should off-set some foolish concerns about Tate's diminutive size. I haven't seen an official number yet, but I'll bet you his standing vertical was through the roof as well.
Jeff Fisher said over the weekend that Kenny Britt's performance last year has softened his stance on rookie WRs. it should also soften his stance on staying loyal to drop machines like Washington and Gage when a much better option presents itself.
Jay Graves over at Titans Sized makes the argument for drafting a DE, which continues to look like one of the deepest positions in the first round of the draft. On a related note, the NFLN will be running the work-outs for Defensive-linemen and LBs this morning at 10:00 for those who have access to a TV. They'll be re-showing it throughout the day and evening as well.
Pacman is still trying to get the attention of league scouts, and he'll work-out for some in New Orleans at what's being called a 'pro-day style' audition for several evaluators. Good luck with th... actually, no: I hope you have the crappiest luck ever, jackass.

Getting a long term deal
done with Tony Brown should be the #1 priority right now.

It sounds like Jeff is....
setting us up for him to pick another receiver in the 1st round instead of a DE. I think thet would be a mistake, with all due respect to the “get the best player on the board” crowd….if I have to endure another season of watching QBs shred our secondary to pieces…..I’M GONNA JUMP!!!!!
Who in the world would they take there?
Dez Bryant? No shot.

Maybe
Would like to trade down a few spots though if he is the guy.

No way.
Fisher is pathological around this time. I mean, he’s never more than halfway truthful with the media anyway, but at draft time, he literally cannot be trusted at all.

absolutely
you want to be misleading. that way someone may leave somebody on the board thinking you aren’t interested in a certain position. pre-draft coaching staff statements are purposeful obfuscation and misdirection.
In the draft, i hope we prioritize "the best player available"...
than “the position of need”. IMO, it seems to work out better. There is a better chance you’ll get a solid contributor right away and you won’t be overpaying the pick.

Exactly.
I think there are certain exceptions. Ie, it wouldn’t make sense to pay first round money for a QB or RB. There’s not much value there. It makes sense at nearly every other position, though, for our team. It’s hard enough to successfully draft a solid player. No reason to make that more difficult by further limiting the talent pool.
I would add offensive lineman to that list

I thought about that.
I’d probably steer clear of it with the first pick. But, if you can find exceptional value in other rounds, I’d still pull the trigger, especially if it’s an interior lineman.
Absolutely
Just not in the first

I think our #1 concern has to be secondary or D line
obvious statement of the year, but without a second rounder it will become a little more difficult to satisfy both needs…what do u guys think the chances are of the Titans trading down from 16 to acquire a 2nd rounder?
I like paying Vince his Bonus
Good move, hopefully that should keep things on good terms come contract time.
obtaining a 2nd rounder...
if we could drop lower in the 1st to acquire a 2nd…id do it in a heartbeat. not sure our chances of that tho. maybe if there’s someone on the board that NE likes…they have 3 2nd rounders (including ours….ugh), maybe we cut a deal.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us trade our 1st rd pick for two 2nd round picks.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time we left the first round all together. Frankly, I kind of hope that does happen, we need a lot of help on defense and there seems to be a lot of talent in this draft.
Golden's 40 time
In regards to Golden’s 40 time, I believe the given time is incorrect. NFL.com reports that he ran a 4.42, not a 4.36. 4.42 is still extremely fast and I would love to have him on the Titans, don’t see it happening though.
CB please
16 is a fantastic spot for cornerbacks and safeties this year- Chris hope is getting up ther and we only signed Nickey to a 1 yr deal -I imagine we’ll pick a corner/ returner, so I wouldn’t be suprised if we traded down to a late 1st, grabbed a late 2nd in the process, and picked Arenas(?) from Bama. Not a tide fan but this guy is special
