Around SBN: The Lakers Are a Broken Model

Is Leroy Ready?

Hey guys.  I know the slow period of football has began.  But it's only a matter of days until Free Agency starts and we find the fate of many players around the league.  One happens to be Kevin Mawae

Star-divide

For the Titans to resign Mawae, they would be handing alot of money for a 38 year old.  As proven by the year before Kevin has been known to get injured, especially to his elbow.  That's something that the organization needs to look at.  If they give Mawae this contract, and he gets injured they just lost alot of money.  It's just too hard to stay healthy at an old age.

So we look at his backup, Leroy Harris.  I have heard the Titans have been grooming him for a starting position for years now.  2 years ago he performed pretty well as the starting center but made many mental errors, one I remember he snapped the ball when Kerry wasn't even looking causing a fumble on 3rd down.

Has Leroy fixed this mental errors?  Everyone knows he is a big strong guy, but that doesn't include how he sees the defensive lines and linebackers determining who to block.  As all the defenses in the AFC South play a 4-3 with a few exceptions to the Texans.  I have seen them go 3-4 a couple of times during a game.

So what do you guys think?  Is he ready?  Will we take a center in the draft for a backup?  And what are some pro's and con's of him playing?

If we go with him then we have revenue to try and sign kbull with.

At first I wanted Mawae to be resigned

and at this point I still would like him to finish his career as a Titan. As far as Leroy goes, I think he will be ready, we have one of the best O-Line coaches in the league, and I have to beleive that if he is endorsing the switch we will be fine.

I rather Have Bullock vs Mawae if that was an option!

DE Kyle Vanden Bosch, DE Javon Kearse, OLB Kevin Bullock, C Kevin Mawae, & David Thorton are 5 HUGE HOLES. Not to mention we also need someone to replace Nick Harper in the first round. So I think Harris is the right move. He might at the least cost a few plays for loss but I think by week 8 he will solid. I also project them to put Jacob Ford as one the starters to replace KVB. I project Mike to use our first pick for the other DE. This would leave a huge hole at OLB even if they do end up signing Bullock at the other side. BUT if we COULD draft OLB first round like Weatherspoon, signed Bullock & that Panthers DE that I am tired of repeating his name. IF WE did that, we would be solid next year on D. Except that would still leave us weak at the CB positions. In an NEW Uncapped year & being one of the #15 best sport teams in the nation behind the Colts & Packers (Some SI Overall Team Rankings), we should have the revenue to sign BIG Players like Bullock and that former Panther DE!

Sorry buddy but it is....

KEITH BULLUCK and JEVON KEARSE and just to clear things up you probably think its Jeff Fischer but there isn’t a “C” in that one either. Oh and you might think its Vunce Young but its actually spelled with an “I”. But other than that you’re ok.

Vunce rocks my face off

actually with a Wonderlic score of 8 maybe Vunce is fitting. Especially if he wears a pointy hat. Zing!!!!

Alright, since you put it that way. You didn’t put an apostrophe in “you probably think its Jeff Fischer”. What is the point of using comedy in these blogs. Who has the time to be sure that every word I type is spelled correctly. I care more about my Titans winning than I care about ‘bashing random people out there because I have no life’. Get the Point!

I don't care if you use improper grammar....

But how do you call yourself a Titans fan if you dont even know the names of players who have been around for 10 or more years? Just know who’s on ‘your’ team! And I wasn’t very harsh on you about it. I just wanted to give you more info about your team so you didn’t wonder why they were signing some guy named Keith Bulluck who is old and coming off an ACL injury, instead of that guy who used to play for us named Kevin Bullock.

Leroy Harris's skill set says one position to me...

RIght Guard. I wonder how Scott could do at LG and Amano at C?

by joshuaboone on Feb 18, 2010 6:31 PM CST reply actions

Why RG?

What have you seen from him that would make you say that? Have you seen him pull from the line better leading to the right? Just curious because I played RG at my best, but I felt extremely uncomfortable playing LT or LG.

by asian phil on Feb 18, 2010 10:52 PM CST up reply actions

I also

played line… but I played LG.

I am wondering why you think Harris would be a better fill in at right guard then left guard. Jake Scott is a perfect fit for RG position - the way he pulls and his lighter-type weight.

LG pulls alot too… I am just wondering your assumption.

better be....!

i think they will just replace one guy wich is kevin , and harris will start at center ….they always say its easier to replace one hole than to fix two …so i see amano staying put and harris start at center…with a full offseason plus the time he spent few years in the line up …..we will be ok , less movement on the line the better we want continuity …

by bostontitan on Feb 18, 2010 7:40 PM CST reply actions

No.

Simple answer.

CENTER IS TOO IMPORTANT OF A POSITION TO EXPERIMENT WITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

T to G? Okay.
DE to DL? Fine.
DL to LB? Worth a look.
LB to DL? Not opposed.
CB to S? All for it.
S to OLB? Might be worth a try.

Leroy Harris is a nice Guard, but he is NOT the Center of the future. Do we really need to re-live the KR/PR gamble, this time at Center?

We. Will. Live. To. Regret. This.

Stop this one before it happens – bring back Mawae, or get a proven vet to anchor the line.

This was the worst

thread I’ve ever seen in this blog. I hope this isn’t a sign of the coming months. No one should be surprised if we don’t resign a 38 year old player at any position. Especially since his agent says he’s hitting the market. And for the last time, THE TITANS WILL NOT SIGN JULIUS PEPPERS. He’s almost as old as Bulluck anyway. Why would we pay $40 million guaranteed to a guy that will play another 2 or 3 years when we can draft a stud DE that might give us a full 8 or 9 years?

Are you talking about my question I posed to everyone?

I never once said we should resign Mawae. Nor did I say that we should sign Julius Peppers. This was simply an easy going post where I asked if they thought Leroy Harris was ready. People are entitled to their opinions, as you are to yours. Maybe some people want the Titans to pursue Peppers. Again that is opinion. Don’t blast people for their right to say what they think.

God I admire you.

You’re right. Shit, why would we EVER sign a free agent? I mean, just look at the security we have if we draft a DE in the first round. Here’s the all the “stud” (read 1st round) DE’s picked in the past 4 years:

Tyson Jackson
Aaron Maybin
Brian Orakpo
Larry English
Chris Long
Derrick Harvey
Lawrence Jackson
Kentwan Balmer
Gaines Adams
Jamaal Anderson
Jarvis Moss

Only one of these players, in bold, made the top ten in sacks on the past three years. Meanwhile, Julius Peppers has been in the top 10 in sacks 3 of the last 4 years.

Look at it this way. Larry English’s contract gave him $10 mm guaranteed. He was picked at #16 in last years draft, where we will be picking. So you can pay a guy $10 mm for 1/11 odds of being a sack leader. Or, you can pay a Peppers $40 mm for 3/4 odds. Also, keep in mind that we never are in danger of exceeding the cap. Spend that money.
