The Titans' deal for G Eugene Amano is a 5-year, $25.7 million contract. He’ll be paid $18 million over the first 3 yrs
Wow. Just wow. I like Amano, but that is entirely too much money for a guy that could be easily replaced. I guess you can spend whatever you want when you aren't worried about signing any players that are actually good.

I had just mentioned to Tuna that I couldn't wait to see Posse try to defend this one.
Looks like you might be leaning….

I know you wanna keep an O-Line together
but that’s a TON of money. It feels like the Titans bid against themselves or something. Who else would offer him that kind of money!?!?!

Didn't Amano used to back up Mawae?
Back before Benji retired? I wouldn’t mind seeing Amano at C and Harris at LG
Now...
Re-sign Tony Brown and Keith Bulluck.
Anyone think they should put the franchise tag on Keith?
Tooouucchhddooowwnnn Titans!
Fuck and No
Why would we pay a 33 year old OLB who will more than likely miss the opening of the season and when he does come back will be gimpy $9 million?? No thanks. I’ll pass.

Veteran guard Eugene Amano signed his five-year, $25.7 million contract with the Titans on Wednesday, keeping one of the more coveted potential free agents off the market.
Amano is now signed through 2014, according to a league source. Had he hit the open market, the Redskins, who are badly in need of offensive line help, were likely to be among his suitors.
Amano’s deal will pay him $12 million in 2010; he will earn $18 million over the first three years, according to a league source.
Amano will receive a signing bonus of $7.25 million, and $3.087 million of his 2010 salary is guaranteed. His full 2010 salary is $5.265 million. He is set to earn $2.68 million in 2011, $3.18 million in 2012, $3.685 million in 2013 and $4.187 million in 2014.
Amano, one of the key players along the NFL’s better offensive lines, has been performing at a Pro Bowl level.
The Titans also are interested in re-signing Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae before March 5, when he would become a free agent. The team hopes to make progress with Mawae, and expect them to initiate more serious talks soon. However, if Mawae is looking for more than what aging centers such as the Ravens’ Matt Birk and the Colts’ Jeff Saturday received last year, he’s likely end up hitting the open market.

The Redskins only purpose in life seems to be to drive up the bargaining price of every player in the NFL

that'd be amazing
except do they even have a 1 and a 3 anymore?

its only money
i see it this way we paid him, at least we know what we got ………………………………. move him to center , that takes care of center harris moves to guard, either that or leave him at gaurd and harris to center …..harris is still playing under his first contract i think , so its peanuts … really it is not that bad …i think it would be worse if we paid that much for kevin mawae…….for a old guy .20 yrs in nfl .. …….so i think its not that bad if we either move him to center or not or move harris who is already locked up ….we have our o line set for a few years …and good for cj to run behind these guys ….
Good lord. I just died a little.
NFL player salaries are here.
$5.25 mm (next years base salary) would have been the 8th highest base salary for a lineman in the entire league last year. $12 mm in 2010 (total salary) would have made him the highest paid lineman in the NFL last year. Let that sink in.
Let me give even more perspective.
Albert Haynesworth’s contract, which EVERYONE on the planet agreed was ridiculous, it paid the guy a total salary of $11 mm last year. One million less than Eugene f#cking Amano next year.
Maybe this means they are finally willing to spend money....
Probably not. But there’s at least hope there.

at least they're finally taking my advice
and front-loading contracts so that guys make the bank of their contract while they’re playing their best football…
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
I disagree with that philosophy.
I suppose a lot of it is dependent on other contracts. You’d like to stagger it as much as possible to optimize cap implications. But, I’ve never liked paying a bunch of money up front because football is such a physical sport. Yes, you may be getting more value for that money, but there is also a strong possibility of injury in the future. Once you’ve parted with that upfront money, it’s gone. Whereas you divert some risk with backloaded contracts.
Also: Guys tend to want to renegotiate when the good part ends.

Ha!
But guys, we’re going to see a TON of contracts across the league that break the bank for next year. EVERY new contract will be loaded to pay out heavily in the uncapped year. I still think Amano should have gotten less, just sayin’
Congratulations Eugene!
You totally deserve your contract.

are you invited to the wedding Pinoy?
It should be a pretty swanky affair with his new contract.
