Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Never Thought I'd See The Day Edition
VY is working with Warren Moon's former personal trainer, with a focus on footwork, speed and mechanics as he prepares to show he can put in the off-season work. There are also some lingering issues with his contract (a roster bonus that could be factored out if the Titans extended VY's contract), but neither Vince nor his agent seem prepared to make a fuss over an extension at this point.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... MUUUUHHHHAAAA! Bow down when smashville come through yo town, son.
Follow us through the jump for more linky goodnes; now with no trans fats!
The Tennessean saw fit to check-in with Keith Bulluck, but you already know MCM is the place to see how Keith is doing these days! Also, Alge would like to remain a Titan, which I could see happening if Bo ends up somewhere else this off-season.
Jim Wyatt echos the majority opinion here at MCM: Josh Cribbs would be a dream acquisition, but remember that in dreams crazy, nonsensical things happen all the time.
Good thing we didn't jump on the pre-mature reports that it was a done deal, because Eugene Amano's rumored 5-year deal isn't quite done yet. According to the veteran guard's agent there hasn't been much progress since the weekend.
The Sporting News looks at who's overrated (starts with Crompton, Jonathan) and underrated at this point in the 2010 draft process. After slamming Cromp, I'll extend an olive branch to Vols fans by agreeing withe the idea that Montario Hardesty may be the most underrated RB in the draft. He has health concerns, but runs like a bulldog on every carry and has a great thick/low build.
Does the success of under-sized QB Drew Brees (compared to the 6-5 prototype) help somewhat smaller guys like Colt McCoy going in to the draft? In this copy-cat league you'd almost have to agree with that statement.

Doesn't change the basic facts.
1. Florio is an idiot.
2. You have to take that quote completely out of context to make it even semi-controversial. See also: #1.

Also:
How the heck can Crompton be over-rated? I mean, he’s a projected 3rd-stringer, no? Regardless of all other considerations, his size and petigree are good for a flier for that, no?

I agree.
At 6’5" and with experience in playing a pro-style offense, I mean, he could at least hold down a practice squad spot for training camp. Where’s the harm?

I really don't agree with him being overrated.
He wasn’t invited to the Senior Bowl, but he showed improvement over his last season. I think that means that he’s teachable and that given the proper amount of time he could develop into a good NFL QB.
He also wasn't invited to the combine

really?
damn that’s harsh for the guy was 1st or 2nd in the SEC in TD throws.

And they say he's overrated?
Do they think he should’ve just been banned from ever touching a football?
abd 18 other QBs were
out of high school…five star…overated
out of college…not invited to the combine…not overated
is he a head case…yes
is he overated…no

Finally:
The fact that Drew Brees can succeed in the NFL despite being relatively short by NFL standards DOES NOT mean that other guys who’re also his size should be given second looks. Brees is more accurate with a football than most professional archers are with their bows and arrows. If McCoy can’t say the same thing and show similar footwook, then comparing him to Brees is like comparing Mike Vick and Vince Young.

That's the thing though.
Colt is the most accurate passer in college football history and he’s started 39 games. Those have proven to be the two leading indicators of NFL success per Football Outsiders (here). The similarities between the two have less to do with size, and more to do with style of play, IMO.
Well, then maybe he will be a successful NFL QB.
But if so, then the correlation to make is to his accuracy and games-started and not his height.

Well I saw a report on SportsCenter
that said being accurate with a football is harder than archery. They then went on to say that Colt McCoy can hit a bull’s eye with a football. You do the math.

Putting a good spin on a football is certainly harder than Archery.
I don’t have enough experience with either to say beyond that…
I agree.
The weird thing to me is that the issue keeps coming up that Colt is undersized. That never comes up with Jimmy Clausen.
Colt McCoy: 6-2 212 lbs
Jimmy Clausen: 6-2 223 lbs
Well then, that is an insane comparison.
Brees is 6’ 0".

Colty McCoy has accuracy because he short throws ALL the time.

To clarify the FO link
That is strictly for First and Second Round QBs.
This is a major part of the reason why games started in college is so predictive. Players with few starts have not given scouts time to find their faults.
Things can obviously change after the Combine/Pro Day, but it doesn’t look like McCoy is going to go in the first 2 rounds, so that study wouldn’t apply to McCoy. The Scouts have seen enough in his game to claim he isn’t a first or second round pick.

His name is no coincidence.

does anybody else not like seeing their star qb shoved around like a red headed rag doll ? At least there is a bond between CJ/VY … have to take something positive out of it.

I bet he left a few lying around.
