Tennessee Titans Daily Links: No Day Is Better Than Gameday Edition

Oh, Dominique Edison, we hardly knew yee...

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Leroy Harris has achieved a rare but dubious distinction in his first year starting on the Titans' offensive line: he's warranted a negative grade from Pro Football Focus for every game so far in 2010. Thats simply atrocious, and while he isn't alone in having a bad year, you have to wonder how his consistently sub-par play has effected this line's ability to get on the same page and dominate like we're used to seeing by this point in the season. On a more positive note, PFF gave Alterraun Verner another above-average grade, which as been the status-quo for the rookie. He has stopped making the big plays since the team started moving him from outside to inside whenever the nickel package comes in, but Verner has still been rock-solid in coverage all year.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Paul K has a good piece up about Peyton Manning's recent struggles vs. the Titans' embattled LBs. Manning has thrown 4 of his 11 picks to linebackers, but the Titans' linebackers have done very little to help in the turnover department all year. One of those two is going to change tonight, and it damned well better be our guys who step up.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 TitansInsider looks at why the Moss effect has fizzled out for the run game, though the burden is still on dumb penalties and abandoning the run too often, best I can see it.

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Here's to hoping Chris Johnson has the break-out game he's looking for.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Titans defense is holding strong at no. 6 in this week's DVOA ratings, but the offense has plummeted to 23rd in the league.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Dominique Edison era in Nashville may finally be coming to an end as the invisible QR was released from the practice squad to make room for the re-signing of Pete Ittersagen, who was cut lose last month.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Matt Bowen from NFP deals out 5 things to know about tonight's game.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Chad Pennington is facing his 3rd career shoulder surgery, but he's about 50-50 on if he can get another NFL team to pay for his next shoulder surgery as well.

Move amano back to guard. Draft a center first or second round!

by CJ2K shrine on Dec 9, 2010 11:11 AM CST via mobile reply actions

FSU's Rodney Hudson is the only Center close to a 1st round grade right now

unless you haven’t watched Florida enough to be scared of Mike Pouncey… this year’s draft isn’t as strong at Guard as last year’s was either. I could see them going after the best at either spot in the 2nd round.

Yeah if you're drafting Pouncey I hope it's because you need an OG

I think Harris would do better at center

I never understood the reasoning to move Amano to center. Based on what I have read and heard, essentially Fisher and Munchak asked Amano where he wanted to play during the preseason…he said center (of course).

Once again, another wrong personnel decision (and the wrong way to go about it). Harris was a stout center last year filling in for Mawae…Amano is a bad center and a so-so guard.

August, can you find any stats or gradings for Harris at center from last year?

by shawneriksmith on Dec 9, 2010 11:33 AM CST up reply actions

Amano said he felt more comfortable at center

I guess they didn’t bother to ask him if he was any good at it.

"Do the Titans have a miracle left in them in what has been a magical season to this point? If they do, they need it now. Christie kicks it high and short. Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25; he dishes it back to Wycheck; he throws it across the field to Dyson. 30, 40, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, 5, endzone...touchdown, Titans! There are no flags on the field! It's a miracle! Tennessee has pulled a miracle! A miracle for the Titans!"

yeah i understood that you were going for differences

you just came up with ones that dont exist anywhere but your own mind and apparently some odd university website. bank is not banque that i can guarentee you and i have no clue why they think it is, but i can forgive you for just following that website. tonight is still tonight – tonite is simply spelled wrong. and i had no clue pyjamas was with an a in the states. and for future reference cheque only applies to pieces of paper used to transfer money, i would still check on my kids when i was out of town to see if they got all checkmarks on their homework.

but just in case you ever go to any other english speaking part of the world – its bank. banque is french. (and apparently dont go to georgia state university for english)

It will wear off soon after the game starts when you realize that this team isn’t every good.

Oh I fully understand that we suck.

But I have a feeling we win tonight. Through flukes plays, circumstances, or whatever. Of course I also realize that this could easily be delusional, wishful thinking.

There’s also this part of my brain (due to a highly acute Titans’ fan defense mechanism) that vehemently tries to forget that Kerry Collins is our starting QB.

Vince Young is the new politics and religion.

i think we win in some weird confusing manor

Were football played in some wierd confusing manor

Filled with swinging chandeliers, talking paintings and haunted pianos, we very likely would win. Sadly it is played on a field were we seem unable to. (Sorry I couldn’t resist)

I also didn't like the decision to put McCourty in at nickel

And, move Verner inside to the slot. Not that Verner can’t play the slot or McCourty can’t play CB, but it seems Cecil blitzes the nickelback covering the slot receiver a lot.

So, that leaves Verner blitzing and takes him out of pass coverage…and he’s probably the best zone cover guy we have in the secondary now.

It’s a tough decision to make because McCourty was playing well before the injury…but I would say if you are going to blitz the nickelback then put in Fuller and leave Verner at CB.

by shawneriksmith on Dec 9, 2010 11:36 AM CST reply actions

i think if we ever put mouton in again

it should be to blitz

Wow, just wow.

Somebody raised the “what if” question if we had signed Mawae for 1 more year (and therefore kept Harris on the bench). If so, would have:

  • VY ever gotten an injury in the first place?
  • We had “The Incident”
  • Would we be 5-7
  • Would Fisher’s job be in jeopardy
  • Would MCM dialogue been spared the insanity of the last few weeks

Fate is funny.

Yah that was def a key mistake because no unit has fallen off like the O line...

and then a lot comes from that…poor run game, poor pass protection….and everything you stated. This organization makes some real piss poor moves!

Pennington's story is sad.

It is also a bit insane. He lasted what, 1 play, after spending a year rehabbing? His shoudler is so scarred up it cannot be read by an MRI? And he wants to go back? Time to retire, Chad.

by dgx on Dec 9, 2010 11:50 AM CST reply actions

Yeah, Pennington was a half-decent QB

And a pretty good guy. Sad ending to a career…

by shawneriksmith on Dec 9, 2010 12:10 PM CST up reply actions

The problem with Moss starts with the QB

We don’t have a QB with a legitimate deep ball arm and/or no sense of timing. By the time he’s able to get out into his route past the corner its already too far for our active QB’s accurate deep throws to get too. Defenses know this. So they will continue to stack the box and risk not double covering Moss because they know the corner doesn’t necessarily have to stay in stride with Moss, they will just have to stay in position for when the ball is thrown too short and jump the route… there for they don’t throw to him. Moss is not the problem, that’s for sure.

by StPrattrick on Dec 9, 2010 12:25 PM CST reply actions

Not just "active" QBs have problems getting the ball to Moss

but all.

Thou who shall remain nameless

Didn’t really have a whole lot of time to try to get him the ball, not that he couldn’t get it to him. You have to admit The Nameless has much better of a deep ball then Collins and Krusty. Either way it’s hard to build chemistry when we have a QB carousel going on.

I now have chills all over my body.

Who will be our Quarterback this week?

by rsikes on Dec 9, 2010 12:44 PM CST reply actions

Same thing as last week

But I truly believe that if we go on a 4 game winning streak maybe just maybe we can squeak by to get the divison! Of course that would mean we win today, we sweep the colts and the colts beat the jags and someone else beats the jags at least once…but hey I know we refuse to give up on the season not with some small hope still left! Lets go TITANS Britt SAVE US!!

by Shibby Titan on Dec 9, 2010 1:48 PM CST reply actions

no

Its time to get Fisher out. If by some MCM type miraculous chance we win out and take the division, Bud will give Fisher an extension. Time for change

by nolesbroncos3456 on Dec 9, 2010 3:09 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

The season's basically over

If we win the division it’s because the rest of the teams simply tank in horrible, horrible fashion. Then we can go on to lose to the Jets in the wild card game.

My guess is that they call him in the hyphen

and they were saying quid-pro-quo because that kickoff came after a long TD run by CJ.
