Bud, Jeff, Vince, Money and Madness
OK, while everybody is battling it out in today's Morning Links to see who can be the most outraged over how VY cussed out Fisher and stormed out of the locker room after the Washington game, maybe those of us who are interested in moving on can talk about how all this is likely to play out in the offseason. For me, the first given is that Vince Young has to be traded or cut. Unless Bud Adams really has gone both senile AND crazy, there's no way he can rationally decide to keep Young. Who would coach him? Who would want to be his teammate? Who would attend the games in Nashville except to boo? Anyway, the point is that:
My Assumption number 1 is that Vince has to go.
My Assumption #2 is that Fisher probably has to go as well, but his fate is not yet sealed. If the Titans win out and start to look like they might gel into a winning team next year, maybe Fisher stays on. It's a long shot, but as we know, Bud seems to be a stickler for contracts, and we just learned that Fisher's contract has no opt-out clause for either him or the Titans. Unless Bud wants to pay him to leave early, he stays on and Bud hates to waste money. Plus, he seems overly concerned with holding everyone to their original contracts - even when it doesn't necessarily make good business sense.
Which brings us to:
My Assumption #3 - Bud Adams is genuinely unpredictable on this decision because logic and reason would require him to change his longstanding, firm positions that a) Fisher stays through his contract and b) Vince is our QB of the future. So, somethings gotta give: either Bud Adams is going to have to go back on emphatic positions he has held for years or the team is going to be thrown into a nightmare situation next year.

My understanding is...
that Fisher has a clause in his contract that states that he has full control of the 53-man roster. While that’s not an opt-out clause, it should give him grounds to sue for breach of contract if Bud pushes the “Vince is my man” issue.
I really hope that is true.

You should read the main article that August posted this morning in it's entirety.
Fisher, according to a source familiar with his contract, has a clause granting him the right to control which players are carried on the 53-man roster, setting the stage for a potential showdown with Adams.
Good catch
I glossed over that part.

does that mean we can put to rest the idea that fisher isnt responsible for whos there?
and whos not? such as mawae. and how long this goes back in regards to mcnair
Fisher was on vacation when the McNair situation went down
He mat have even been on a trip to see soldiers overseas. Not sure where he was, but I remeber Fisher was out of town & said he didnt know about it till after it happened.
That's what she said!
Mawae and McNair issues would pertain to contracts.
Contracts would happen upstream from the 53 man roster, so I would guess that Fisher had no control. After a contract is in place, Fisher gets to decide who gets the roster spots. Since VY has one year left, the contract issue won’t get in the way and Fisher would have the final contractual decision on whether VY is one of the QBs on the 53-man roster.
Another scenario is that Fisher allows VY to be one of the three QBs, but makes VY play as a second string or third string. Unless we get a great rookie or pick-up someone in the off-season, that would be a dumb decision. VY is better than the current QBs, and I’m not sure Fisher can convince himself that letting the best QB ride the pine is the best decision for Fisher’s OWN future.
Holy Crap, this offseason is ramping up to be a circus.

I wonder if Fisher would be willing to sit out a year fighting a protracted contract dispute with the Titans.
It would certainly be interesting (like Leach v. Texas Tech).
Make it easy on everyone.
Trade the rights to negotiate with Fisher to whoever wants him (assuming Fisher also wants to go to said team).
Now, that assumes someone would be willing to give up a pick(s) for him…….

Oh, I'm sorry; did I poke a hole in the echo chamber?

At this point...
who the heck knows what Bud will do this off season. I think most of us here are in the same boat in saying that it is time for both of them to go. I myself see it that way too, I have always liked FIsher, but at this point I am ready for some fresh air and to see a different product in Titans Land. As for VY I too beleive he can be succesful, part of me wants to see what a creative mind could do with this offense, but my vote is to cut ties with the cry baby attitude as well. If we lose Fish we might as well lose VY and start from scratch with a new QB / Coach relationship.
But that brings me to this… Who the hell knows what Bud will do. He has already stated that the two of them will have to learn to coexist. it would not surprise me to see the old bat do nothing this offseason, all the while thinking that next year would be magically better.
If Bud tries the "Do nothing and keep them both under contract" route...
Then a lockout may be the best outcome we can hope for next season… it would give Fisher and Young a good chunk of or all of a season to not have to deal with one another and thus maybe forget (at least long enough for the contracts to be played out) that they hate each other’s guts….
Fire Bud...
Think the best overall thing that could happen is start a Pot circulate it through out Tennessee and collect money….Take the team from Bud, that would be the quickest step getting the team on the right road.
no, no
taking is the modern (and ancient) way of doing things

No of course not
I didn’t say taking was good. More of social observation
