but after today's complete ineptitude on both sides of the ball, I think that the Jeff Fisher era in Tennessee needs to end. I've always been a Jeff Fisher supporter and think that he is a great coach and has been great to the Nashville community, but this kind of play cannot be tolerated. We have guys being paid millions of dollars out there who refuse to play the game with sound fundamentals. The offensive line has blocking and discipline problems. The receivers and tight ends get HIT IN THE HANDS and can't complete a catch. The defensive line can't stay on their own side of the ball. The defense as a whole refuses to wrap up when they tackle, instead opting for the "big shot" which results in extra yards after catch and in Michael Griffin's case an embarrassing stiff arm from MoJo. The only guys on this team that are routinely getting their job done are Bironas and Kern!
My question is this: where the hell has all the passion and grit and determination that this team USED to be known for go? Where is the hard-nosed defense who would dare you to run on them and punch you in the mouth when you tried it? Where is the offensive line that would blast off the ball and put opposing defenses on their backs? Most importantly, where is the leadership on this team?
VY, Tully and Sarge might be wearing a "C" on their chest, but when has any of those 3 ever stepped up and got in peoples faces and held anyone accountable? I haven't seen it nor have I heard about it. When the offense goes 3 and out, where is Sarge to rally the troops? Where is Tully when the defense can't get a stop? We know where VY is and that doesn't need to be mentioned.
Since these "leaders" aren't getting it done, why doesn't someone else who gives a damn step up and say something to the team? I have never played a down of football in my life, but I have been in situations in other sports and activities where leaders weren't getting it done. You know what needs to be done in that situation? Somebody, it doesn't matter who, needs to step up and say something. They need to rally the team and show some passion within their own play. I don't care if they are a Rookie late round pick or a 13 year vet (I'm looking at you Randy), someone needs to make this team wake the hell up!
The coaches aren't doing it, and it's obvious. Or if they are, as I said before, the team is already lost so it doesn't matter. We need new blood around here. We need a new coach and we need some new payers to mix it up and bring the swagger back. There are some solid players on this team that can be built around (CJ, Britt, Mariani, ATV, Griff just to name a few) and there are some players that need to be on their way out of town (VY, Collins, Gage, Hope, Nickey just to name a few again). We need someone to come in and shake things up. Make EVERY job up for grabs and give it to the guys who want it most.
I don't think we need a big name coach like Cower or Gruden. We need someone who is a coordinator who is hungry. Names that come to mind to me are Leslie Frazier, Scott Linehan, Gregg Williams and Dinger if he can pull through this cancer. Then we need to keep the position coaches that are valuable like Washburn, Munch and McGinnist. Maybe from their we can find the right mix of people and get things back on track.
I know that is a long rant, but man it felt good to get it all out. For those that make it through, thank you for taking the time. Here's to hoping this team gets turned around and soon. I'll never quit watching or believing in the Titans, but they sure do make it hard on you sometimes.
