Chiefs 34 Titans 14 Quick Recap
Nothing to see here but another week of mistake filled undisciplined football. How much longer are we going to be forced to watch this? The thing that is the most infuriating about this is this team still had a chance to make the playoffs coming into this game. Sure they need a lot of help, but there is no reason for them to be mailing it in at this point. That is what they did today. A whole lot of the blame for that goes on the players, but a lot of that is on Jeff Fisher.
Speaking of things being on Jeff Fisher, if I were Bud Adams I might go ahead and fire him tonight for not getting Jared Cook on the field earlier in the season. I know he has problems blocking, like he can't block at all, but he still needs to be on the field. And if that isn't enough, there is the fact that Justin Gage still gets playing time. There were at least two balls today that went right threw his hands. At least we don't have a hall of fame receiver on the sideline that he is playing ahead of..
So that officially does it for your 2010 Titans. We will talk about that and more tonight at 9 p.m. central on MCM Radio.

What? A girl can't like AND understand football?
Shoot, I live in the South where that just comes with the territory!
Seriously, though...
we need to scrap most of the players and nearly all of the coaches and start over next season. This one has been deeply depressing.

Justin Gage is terrible.
My old coach used to say “if you touch it you can catch it.” Well it looks like Gaga does a whole lot of touching and not a whole lot of catching.

Agree, but you would think players at the NFL level would at least have better fundamentals.
Not saying they can make every catch or tackle…but this team seems to be missing the routine and not doing things that one would think are ingrained in a player from day one of their amateur career.

Awefully hard to remain a Titans fan this season… not really I’ll be a Titans fan til I die but man it is rough right now. I just don’t understand with all of the talent on the field how they just can’t seem to come together as a team.

This is the thing about the NFL
Every team, no matter how bad, has a lot of young talent on the team. But the talent will never be recognized or blossom unless there’s a coach that can bring it all together and maximize all the potential the team has. We obviously don’t have those coaches right now.
Bud isn'tt firing Fisher
He ain’t going to pay him to sit at home with a possibility of a lockout. Too much uncertainty. Strong chance Fisher is back for his final year.
yeah great idea

"What if I was Peyton Manning?"- CJ to the ref after they picked up a personal foul flag for a late hit on him.
What "power" does the QB have?
Fisher’s made his own bed. The Nameless was just ahead of the curve.
InVINCEable
He has the power in the sense
that the owner is going to back him no matter what he does. I think Fisher screwed up a lot when it comes to Vince, but a franchise QB cannot curse his coach and storm out of the lockerroom. Period.

^ This.
If/When there is a new head coach at the expense of keeping “He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named”, that coach will have no authority from his “franchise” quarterback, and possibly no respect from the team. If the “franchise” quarterback doesn’t have to play by the rules, why should the rest of the team? What motivation will “He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named” have to change his ways if he can just go to the owner if the new guy is being tough on him?
I think it is time for a change. However, I don’t want that at the expense of keeping “The Nameless”.

Patrick Peterson= Next Deion Sanders. Julio Jones sucks.
I know
trust me. I havent stood up for Jeff Fisher in a long, long time. I’m just saying that he’s the longest tenured coach and well respected throughout the league, and if Young stays and Fisher goes, people looking for jobs will see that and not be interested in the job.

Shoot, I live in the South where that just comes with the territory!
except to every coach you talk to
who all say half of coaching is knowing how to handle personalities and get the most out of them
not in the pros
eddie george was never our coach, always our motivation guy.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
policing of the players is often more effective coming from fellow players
that doesnt mean its not also on the coach
if you need the coach to waste time on that stuff
at least in the NFL, you have major locker room problems. i’d much rather have a coach worry about X’s and O’s than cheer leading. unfortunately, the pats are the perfect example. if the coach and GM take care of their real jobs, the HC can be the most boring, anti-social prick in the world and still be successful. most of those rah-rah coaches never last long because it just feels forced and cheesy after a while. mike singletary comes to mind.
sure you have to “manage personalities” to some extent, but if you have the right game plan and the right players, the motivation stuff takes care of itself.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Disagree with this.
Belichick’s players have been consistent in saying that he was always good at getting every ounce of talent out of his guys. It’s a mentality that comes from the top down. Losing, and winning, is contagious. And, when the Head Coach CONSISTENTLY sends a message that he’s playing not to lose instead of to win, eventually that trickles down.
disagree with this
belichick gets the best out of his players because a) they know he will ship anyone out the moment they aren’t useful in his eyes and b) because he is about as good as it gets at X’s and O’s and his players know that and buy into basically everything he says because of that.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
I think it's more up to the players
look at our team. we lose Bulluck, KVB, and Mawae, no one shows up to play like they did last year. it’s an internal thing that coaches can’t control. when I play, I look towards my teammates for leadership through example and motivation and and vice versa

The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Because, IMO hal, the level of talent on every one of these teams is pretty good...
I mean you don’t make it on an NFL team unless you’re pretty good. The thing that makes the difference is coaching, and part of that is learning what makes a guy tick…what gets his motor going…you’d think making millions of dollars would do it…but the Titans just proved today, that it doesn’t.

This team is not all that bad
With some better coaching decisions and a few other players plugged in this could be a very good team. VY is a doucher. But with VY behind center, Collins as the backup, CJ, Blount and Ringer at HB, Hall, Britt, Moss, Nate in the slot, Cook at TE, Stevens getting some time there as well, Roos and Stewart at OT, Scott, Velasco and Harris on the o-line with some discipline would be a pretty solid offense. There’s not many teams with a group of WRs that can catch like that, so I disagree on the WR assessment. Throw in Damian Williams and its even better.
The Defense needs to better coached in the tackling department, and the playcalling. We have some different players then the last couple years, you can look at it and say we’ve taken a step back which we might have personnel wise. Think about this though. Think about how much of this could have to do with coaching. We have some guys on this team like Griffin, Hope, Fuller, Finny that have taken steps back as players since Shwartz and other have left especially in tackling. McGrath hasn’t improve at all either. Are we coaching guys down? Why is it the guys we brought in like Witherspoon, Babin(other than penalties) and Verner play the right way? Maybe they haven’t spent enough time here to get fucked up and lose some skill? Those 3 to me seem like the most consistent in the area of tackling, other than maybe Tulloch but he’s pretty much just a tackler and he’s not ever gonna forget how to do that. I still say you throw out a healthy Defense with a good coach, with the rotation we had earlier in the year on the d-line and its pretty solid. Babin, Brown, Jones, Morgan, Ford, Tully, Spoon is solid. Mcgrath is really terrible, Finny, Verner, McCourty, Griffin aren’t bad, then throw in Hope, he’s pretty terrible. I see 2 guys in that group that are horrendous. Who are the plenty of players?

That frustrates me more than anything else, the loyalty to a fault has to end.
Look at a guy like Belichick, trading a former first round pick of his who was a key piece of his defensive line (Richard Seymour, for those who don’t know). Nothing personal, just business and putting his team in the best position for the future. And playing a ton of rookies on both sides of the ball this year doesn’t seem to have hurt them.
Loyalty is good to a certain degree, you want to have the trust of your players. But continuing to play guys because they are the veteran or have “experience” in the system is not a good reason for them to continue playing when their production simply is not tolerable.

Pretty simple
Four out of those five guys you listed, when even heathy are childish idiots, who either came in camp out of shape, while being in trouble off the field constantly( Britt) Can’t understand plays and doesn’t know where he is supposed to be unless he’s running a deep route (Cook), is the absolute reason this team went down the drains, and shouldn’t be allowed to set foot in Nashville ever again (Vince Young). Or Sold and Bought his own hype so much that he stopped running like his job depended on it( CJ2K) It’s not going to be a great year when Nate Washington is the only one of those five who can be counted on! I don’t care if you dig up Vince Lombardi and sit him on the sideline, with all of those headcases.
The off the field distractions have to go, the guys who don’t want to work at the game at a professional level have to go, and the guys who think they’ve made it and can just show up and win have to go.
Also, don’t think for a second that Chris Johnson is going to be a great guy this offseason either, he’s gonna want more money all over again! This is going to get ugly REAL QUICK. I’d bet Fisher walks before anything else happens.

i wonder why we don't draft speedy Wrs in the 1st place?
Kenny Britt is great, but we see how wrs like Holmes, Wallace, and Ford can do.
idk how to explain the draft selections
we need to be more flexible

to say that CJ, Cook, and Britt are "childish idiots" is a little harsh
Johnson has never done anything detrimental to his reputation, neither has Cook. Britt has had two minor, isolated incidents that haven’t affected his playing time significantly, if at all.
Young is his own brand of stupid, just don’t group those other three in the same category, they don’t deserve it.

This whole team has been pathetic this year since week8.
They need to study the KC playbook & adapt it as their own!! Screens, screens & screens. None of the garbage draw on 2nd down every possesion
McCourty was the worst player on the field by far.
Gage should never even be on the field.

Blount would not have been active here.
For the love of God, everyone seems to be thinking he’d be rushing for 150+ yards if he was here. He’d be the third RB here, probably inactive every game. It’s not like CJ hasn’t played well, we were spoiled by last year but he is still playing well and has good yard totals.
I wish we had a bigger back like Blount, but he would not have been playing here and only got the chance in Tampa Bay because of injuries to other backs on that roster. Good for him for making the most of that opportunity, I’m quite fine having Chris Johnson as my running back.
I have many leather-bound books, and my apartment smells of rich mahogany. And there's this awesome Chris Johnson Fathead over the wood paneling. Seriously, it's kind of a big deal...

He may have shown enough
to get on the roster at some point. There’s no way to know or say that shit. He coulda ended up being the #2 that we wouldn’t use. Fact is he’s a stud, and we let him roll outta town for nothing. And that fuckin sucks

Re:

I’m so tired of this argument:
Well the coaching staff would have made a careless decision anyways to put Blount behind Ringer, so it must follow that we’ll give them a pass for making the decision to cut him.
That doesn’t make it any better. Blount should have been the #2 back. Period. Just because the coaching staff was too inept to realize that doesn’t make the decision to cut him any better…

ronburgundy ... don't dismiss the Colts too quickly
granted they aren’t quite the powerhouse they’ve been in years past, esp with the injuries (was sad to see Collie go down last week) but that’s just it: Manning has an uncanny ability to make damned near ANYONE look like a HoF receiver
lose a guy to injury? no worries, plug in someone else … TE go down? no worries, use the next in line … anotehr wideout gone? not a problem, Peyton’s got ya covered
the guy is damned near single-handedly dragging his team into the playoffs, and looking better at it every week … yeah, the Ravens are scary, but hey, they CAN be scored on, just ask Buffalo
and if (huge if) my Chiefs lose next week (home v Raiders) and the Colts win, they nail the 3rd Seed and likely stay home v Jets (and if the Bears can ring up 38 pts on them, Manning can hang 50

I dont get people defending Fisher.
Yes the player and the ones on the field. A big part of the coach’s job is to get the players to believe in or buy into his system. Fisher is well respected around the league and I always enjoy hearing how he is a “player’s coach.” So what could be the reason for him being unable to get this team on his side? The players will not buy into his style for the same reasons that many of us wont. Its not surprising to me to see a team that doesnt believe in its coach come out and look obviously uninterested and sluggish. This is a big part of the coach’s job. New England knows this.
fisher.....
i refuse to buy any titans merchandise, hats, shirts, tickets, etc…. until jeff fisher gets shit-canned. i have been questioning why i ever became a fan of this organization. 22 years and counting, i have seen the steelers keep winning super bowls and notoriously shitty organizations like tampa and new orleans earn rings. but hey, fish keeps his job by going 8-8. at least its not 5-11 right???
It's not so simple
I know it’s easy to put all of this frustration on our coaches but there is more to it than that. Don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of blame for everyone. People are missing the fact that if we fire Fisher we set this team back at least two years. Let’s try giving him a QB that can play 16 games, not be a baby, and not be pushing 40. We’ve got a lot of the pieces in place, all we need is a QB, a coverage LB, a young, fresh SS and a consistent running game. By consistent running game I mean constant positive yardage, not nothing all day and then a 50 yard gain.
You’re gonna call me crazy but I think we can win with this coach and this team (most of it).We need some solid play from a QB, the defense from the first half of the season, and a little luck. Don’t give up friend, better days are ahead.
by JedimasterByrd on Dec 26, 2010 9:04 PM CST up reply actions
we have a young, fresh SS
the coach just refuses to play him. therin lies the problem, this veteran loyalty bullshit has got to go. look at the Chiefs; I predicted that they’d win the Super Bowl in 2012 because of all the young guys that they got in the first few rounds and how they were getting on the field and hanging in there. now look, they’re in position, one or two more years and they’ll get there.

So, let me see...
, if I were Bud Adams I might go ahead and fire him tonight for not getting Jared Cook on the field earlier in the season.
I mean, forget the total mess that is our QB situation, alienating players, our unbalanced offense, our contact false starts and dumb penalties all season long, our acquisition of Randy Moss and using him as a sideline prop, punting the season away on 4th and 1 back to the Colts, and all the bad coaching decisions all season long.
The reason to fire Fisher HAS TO be because of his choice in TE’s on the field. Obviously. I mean, that’s unacceptable.

[enter some witty remark here]
by fanoftheunderdogs on Dec 27, 2010 2:45 AM CST reply actions
Stop Saying Bud Must Get Rid of VY
or no coach will come here. How does keeping VY show that he “runs” the team? I mean, I’m pretty sure VY made none of those horrible personel decisions that Fisher has made over the last 5 years. And plus, everyone knows that Bud has been pretty hands off with Fisher unless he needed to step in. I’m sure he could convince any coach of the same thing. Let another coach and maybe GM come in here and evaluate the talent and actually talk to the players and let them make their own decision about whether VY absolutely must go.
Multimillion dollar paying NFL head coaching jobs dont grow on trees. I can remember the cowboys Jason Garrett passing on the Ravens head coaching job and now he wishes he could be in Harbaughs shoes on his way to the playoffs. If you dont have a super bowl ring you would be crazy to pass up the Titans job if offered because you may not get offered another head coaching job. I agree with you passing up the Titans would be a huge mistake unless you are in demand like Cowher and Gruden.
Please explain something-
We’ve had Fisher for a decade and a half and hasn’t delivered. Those of you who warn that it will put us back two years – back from what? Another 8-8 season? Will we have another 5 game losing streak? Say what you want, but Bud Adams isn’t stupid. People are giving up on the team and that means less money.
