Titans will not be better with Kevin Kolb at QB next year

I have decided to sit out the recent comments as I have stated my position on the whole VY/Fisher thing in multiple comment threads. I do believe VY was an idiot for how he handled the situation after the Redskins game but I still think Fisher is the root cause of the entire issue with his inability to trust VY and his poor decisions in regards to VY this year that obviously pushed VY over the edge (the Steelers benching, putting him as the #2 QB for the Eagles and Dolphins game although he was healthy, and not putting him back into the Redskins game or actually speak to him about that decision during the game).

But, we are moving forward now and a lot of fans are commenting that we should trade for Kevin Kolb in the offseason. I do not believe the Titans will be a better team with Kevin Kolb instead of Vince Young (looking at on the field performance only).

Pass Attempts this year: Kevin Kolb 153 / Vince Young 156

Passer rating this year: Kevin Kolb 85.3 / Vince Young 98.6

Yards per attempt this year: Kevin Kolb 6.8 / Vince Young 8.0

TD-to-INT ratio: Kevin Kolb 6-to-4 / Vince Young 10-to-3

Football Outsiders DVOA rating this year: Kevin Kolb 15.7% / Vince Young 24.5% (the higher the better)

Fumbles: Kevin Kolb 5 / Vince Young 6

And, please remember that Kevin Kolb plays in a very QB-friendly offense under Andy Reid with very good players at all the skill positions (DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, Brent Celek, etc). Vince Young plays in a Fisherball offense, although he also now has playmakers around him in CJ, Britt (although he was hurt in 1st Quarter of SD game).

Another reason Kevin Kolb will not improve the Titans next year is that Kevin Kolb is more of a West Coast-style QB. The Titans, under Heimerdinger, throw the ball down the field more. Kevin Kolb would not fit well into the Titans offense.

Setting aside the off-the-field issues (which can be hard to do), Kevin Kolb is not an upgrade over Vince Young, in terms of on-the-field performance.

If the Titans do want to move away from Vince Young, then the best bet is to draft a QB in the 1st round. That would require trading up as the couple of decent QBs this year (Luck and Mallett) will be gone in the top 10. But, Kevin Kolb will not be a franchise QB, especially in a Fisherball offense.
