Defense..Defense..

Lets change the subject, if only for a moment. I can only take so much VY/Fisher drama for one night

Something is very wrong with this Titans defense. The begining of the season, all the talk was of this "no-name" D that was going to take control of games. & in the begining, they were very opportunistic. But since week 3 or 4, they have gone downhill fast!

We all know that opposing TE's are destroying this D. But why is that really? Is it simply that these LB's are just too slow to cover average TE's? I think that definitley factors in. But what happened to all the pressure on opposing qb's? In the first few weeks, the D-line was all over the qb. Not so much anymore, allowing enough time for TE's to simply run away from our coverage. This line is very undersized. And as much as I like Babin & Ball, there is a reason they were available. Those guys are not the type of talent that teams have to gameplan for. They are high-motor guys, who give great effort. But are undersized, & just not that great. Good? Yes. Great? No. Jason Jones & Tony Brown are small as well. Brown isnt tiny, but if he is the biggest guy on the starting line, thats a small line! Jones is a beast, when healthy, which is rare. He also draws alot of double teams.

Also, too much zone. It seems like every time the team needs to make a stop, they are playing a zone coverage & nobody covers the middle of the field. Either the safeties are playing way too deep & cant get to the receivers underneath in time, or they find the soft spot between the corner & safety. Griffin was a turnover magnet. Not so much lately. But I put that on the lack of qb pressure as much as anything.

It appears to me, that this is a defense still trying to find its way under Cecil. This far into his 2nd year, this shouldnt be the case. Establish an identitiy. Be agressive, or be a D that bends but doesnt break. But pick one!!

I for one, hope he's gone next year. I'm all about keeping the entire staff(yes, that includes Fisher), except for Cecil. Promote Washburn. Imagine if he can do for the entire D what he does for the line. Or if not him, then find someone who can establish an identity. Wade Phillips will be out there. He's a terrible HC, but a good DC. He'd be an improvement over Cecil.

What do you think has happened to the D?

Please leave the VY/Fisher debate to the rest of the internet...
