Are we a SB contender?

Since last weeks loss to SD I have been mulling this question in my head - are we a legit Super Bowl contender?

I want to say yes.

Unfortunately, that idea comes with a huge BUT.

There are several things we need to improve upon and I try and reassure myself (as the fan) that my lord and savior Jeff Fisher will be on top of it. Atop my list there is our Center play. Eugene Amano is not good at the position. He lacks the ability to get off his snap and block. It has 100 % prevented us from running between the guards.

Let me make a list.

1. Eugene Amano / O-line

2. Safety play.

Yes, I love Mike Griff, but for those of you who have read up on this guy at all - he is weird. And it feel like this weirdness is showing up on the field - Somedays he is the pro bowl ball hawking safety, other days he is the I can't wrap up to save my life kind of guy. Secondly - Chris Hope is over the hill. The play, or lack of a play, in the Eagles game was a perfect example of a player in decline. (Trick play to the Gator where he laid in bed waiting for the ball)

This leads me back to my question. Are we a legitimate super bowl contender. If we play the Chargers in the post season the answer is a resounding NO. Why? Antonio Gates. The third down machine.

*side note- If i have to listen to Dan Fouts during a Titans v. Chargers game ever again I will keep the game on Mute.

Yes, I feel we have the best pass rush in the NFL. But we all saw Norv Turner play right into our strength with a combination of screen passes, draws, and tight end digs. It has been no secret that our achilles heel over the past decade has been a sharp, accurate 4-10 yard pass attack from the likes of Manning, Brady, and Rivers. That leads me to the question- how to stop it.

The Answer. Linebackers and safeties. The new question becomes - do we have the talent in these two rolls that is capable of shutting down this barrage of offense. Let's just say I hope Mr. Cecil can put together some awesome schemes.

Go Titans.
