The #Titans worked out 4 RBs today: Larry Johnson, Kestahn Moore, Alfonso Smith and William Ta'Ufo'Ou

HUGE mistake by the Titans.

I was in favour of releasing him since he wasn’t going to get playing time. But if they are looking for someone to get touches, then releasing him didn’t make any sense.

Staying more with this move though, why sign Larry Johnson? I’d put him in the “washed up” department.

Funny how you said a few weeks ago about my Blount post that it was the right move to cut him ...

But why implement a new RB into the system this late in the season anyway? Strange happenings if they sign one of these guys

by 12thTitan on Nov 16, 2010 6:21 PM CST up reply actions

Ya

My point was if you’re not going to use a big back, then cut Blount and use the Special Teamers. If you are going to use a big back, then you wouldn’t cut Blount.

Oh yeah, now we decide to implement a "big back" into our offense. Our "big back" is scoring touchdowns in Tampa.

If this is true and really happens, they might as well write “WE’RE IDIOTS” on their foreheads.

As opposed to last season with the return specialist debacle?

I do love me some Fisherball, but the Titans ARE good for at least one boneheaded personnel decision each season.

by Antoniemey on Nov 17, 2010 12:22 AM CST up reply actions

Again the coaching staff blows it.

And it takes them over half the season to even address it. Awesome.

by Titan9 on Nov 16, 2010 3:32 PM CST reply actions

What???

Also, maybe they want him to pick his brains because wasn’t he a Redskin earlier this year or last year?

I still don’t really want him.

GO TITANS!!!

Somehow they thought the team could get by with Ringer as a back up

But the last few games Ringer has been ineffective especially in short yardage situations

Oh Rlly

Insert pigeon picture here.

I love having a hammer back, as you poor suffering souls have seen me post before. It’s a shame we had a couple of promising looking ones and didn’t keep either. I like Ringer, but he’s not a hammer. He’s a CJ #2.

In fairness, they may not have realized how much the run blocking was going to drop off; the loss of Crumpler as a blocking TE might play in some, sunno. If they can’t fix run blocking fast, one way to try to address things quickly is admit the mistake and get a guy that can run through some tackles back in the fold.

what happened to

Gadko? The guy we were looking at along with Blount in the pre-season?

Another good point.

I’d rather have Gado than Johnson. Johnson has a history of being a malcontent in the locker room.

I find myself constantly agreeing with your comments.

If the run blocking was as good as last year, our run game would have been fine. Without that stellar blocking though, we may need a guy who break tackles.

wasnt larry johson on the redskins at the begining of the season?

maybe just picking his brain like they did with marques douglas before the dolphins…after releasing blount thats the only reason I see for doing this and the timing fits or is it just a coincidence trhey pick a guy who was on the redskins before the game agaist the redskins?

of course how dumb of me

they had 9 games this season and after the ninth game wich was aguarbly one of the best days running by cj they decide they need to add another back..and they go get a guy who was on the team they are going to face this week just by coincidence..yeah that seems to be the most probable thing, sorry rothbard from having an different and very stupid idea!

well there's only 2 on the roster right now if I'm not mistaken

and the Titans generally hold 3 so it wouldn’t be too out of character to get another one

I don't like the thoughts that fact brings to my brain...

But… I can’t fault them for being prepared… it might save the team’s bacon in the near future (just hopefully not at RB)

by Antoniemey on Nov 17, 2010 12:25 AM CST up reply actions

does this mean we need to look to the draft to address the power back?

what’s the highest round you’d be comfortable with spending a pick on?

by danielreese05 on Nov 16, 2010 4:06 PM CST reply actions

I would assume I'd be in the minority here, but I would take a back pretty high. 2nd or 3rd Round.

That is assuming of course that they actually do want a “power back” and this is not Reinfeldt updating his contacts, as August said above. Though looking at the draft is tough this early. If we get an OL in the first, would we need a power back? All these questions will need to be assessed in the offseason.

by WinnipegTitanFan13 on Nov 16, 2010 4:16 PM CST up reply actions

that does seem pretty high

Daniel Thomas from KSU is probably your guy. the problem is that this year there just aren’t many good power backs available. the next best option looks like Evan Royster from Penn State and he’s one of the more overrated backs in the draft this year, so we’d probably have to spend about a 4th or 6th round pick on him. of course, it’s still very early, guys can emerge as NFL prospects within the next two months, we’ll see how it plays out.

We had a power back

who was cheap (undrafted), with a chip on his shoulder, had 1st-2nd round talent, and fit in the Titans offense like a glove.

But, we let him go so that we could keep a special teams start (Donnie Nickey) and backup LB (Colin Allred) and backup guard (Ryan Durand).

by shawneriksmith on Nov 16, 2010 4:29 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

but now we don’t and it’s a problem. as much as it sucks to have let go of Blount (on my birthday no less) we can’t think about that anymore because he’s never coming back. now we just need to look harder because this year, there’s no equivalent of Blount (freak athlete, powerful runner, chip on the shoulder, “character problem” that will cause him to go undrafted)

Hey I’m getting the hang of this.

No really, they should sign him. The owner is pretty much taking a wrecking ball to that franchise, signing Russel after giving McNab a mysterious fat contract right before a MNF game would be icing on the crazy owner cake.

Chainsaw Dan Snyder...

has no use for logic…

Or, apparently, an accountant.

So, yeah, I could see the Skins signing Russell….

Hell, the way things work in Washington, he could start for them within a week or two.

by Antoniemey on Nov 17, 2010 12:28 AM CST up reply actions

And I was being criticized when I said we shoulda kept Blount ...

Will be interesting to see if we actually sign one of these guys and actually implement a short yardage/goal line back into the offense. It’s kinda late in the year for that to happen I would think, but it would be rather valuable in the stretch run in December.

by 12thTitan on Nov 16, 2010 6:20 PM CST reply actions

We don't need a goal-line back.

Our problem is not our running back. Cj is far more likely to make someone miss than a big back is to plow through somebody. If someone can show me that we are having trouble in short yardage, maybe i’d believe it.

Show me that a big back is statistically more likely to get into the endzone at the goal-line than an elusive back.

Until then, i don’t believe this whole notion of having a separate back for the goal-line.

did everyone forget

that we lead the league in points? we give up way too many yards on d and need to get amano off the fucking line. we don’t need a goal line back.

What is our red zone %? good. we just need to get there. maybe if we use some playaction!

what’s our 3rd and short percentage? oh wait, we don’t get 3rd and shorts
