Kerry Collins out several weeks with a calf injury
Also from the article, Vince's ankle injury is behind him, and Rusty Smith will backup VY through KC's injury.

Rusty111111!
Did I do that right?
Rusty looked really good this preseason, except the parts where he didn’t.
Of course, usually he was coming in after I’d practically fallen asleep watching Simms.

FIRE JEFF FISHER
Well this will let us take a look into what is probably the QB depth chart next season.
I find it interesting that Fisher said he may not bring in a veteran QB, considering many here believe he loves veterans.

He seemed pretty sure that
Rusty would be the #2. Here is his presser from today. Not nearly as much Fisher-speak as I would have expected.

Rusty is...
our future QB. I doubt we will hold onto VY as long as JAX has held on to Garrard. Within the next year or two, Smith will show great inrpovent, leading to him starting and possibly becoming a franchise QB. How many quarterbacks has Fisher drafted? Three. The first two were/are great. Who says this one won’t be also?
Dave Ball + Jason Jones + Tony Brown + Jason Babin = Unstoppable
If the second QB is great
then why are you talking about Rusty being the future?

Because i don't know how long Vince will be great.
I think Rusty can become amazing. A pocket QB that can create an’ offense similar to the Vike of last year:

Will there ever be sanity?
No sooner do I find out that Kerry Collins is no longer an option for Vince haters than I start reading posts about Rusty Smith being the answer. Since taking over for Collins after the 0-6 start last year Vince has a record of 11-5 counting games he has played the majority in (I counted the San Diego game from this year and not the Jacksonville game when he started but only played a single series — so I’m not padding his stats). During those games he has 18-9 touchdown to interception ration. Not counting 2008 when he played little more than one game his QB rating has gone up every year. Right now his rating for this year is 97.6 so forgive me if I’m not interested in seeing talk about how Collins is better for this team or insanity that suggests that Rusty Smith is the answer. Furthermore two quick history lessons: 1. Tom Brady won a Super Bowl his second season. 2. The Titan’s played a rookie 6th round pick at QB last year in the Rams game. Keith Null has this epic stat line: 28-44 165 1td-5int. against an awful Titans defense last year.

Keith Null?
I know you like Vunce, and yeah I agree that Rusty talk is a little premature, but the Null “point” made no sense. Why does Rusty Smith = Keith Null? QBs are commodities graded by their position in the draft. They aren’t interchangeable pieces of produce. Their value is determined on the field. Yeah, Null = not so good. Rusty = remains to be seen

I really want to see what Rusty Smith can do
I also would love to see Vince carry us to the playoffs. Can’t always get what we want though!

So...
We’re going to groom him for years, let him start a few times while Vince is injured… and then when he’s ready to become the starter we’ll lock Vince out of the facility and trade Rusty to San Diego?
Fair warning (Pessimism post) )Im seeing a lot of talk about VY's maturity again
I think its time after this season or next depending on results to perhaps have a full rebuilding stage. New QB, new OC, new GM, new DC. Sucks that it would eliminate CJ and Britt who will chase money that Bud won’t pay. Im starting to feel that our window left after the 13-3 season. Itll take us awhile or til Manning and Brady retire to find ourselves goin to the ship
All those acronyms new
but no NEW HC!!!!!!!!!??22

Here's the gameplan
Trade up to draft Mallett or Luck, sign a vet QB as backup, cut Collins and try to trade Young
Get a 2nd legit CB and add more depth to the LB/D-line corps
Get a coach who isn’t afraid to open the playbook
Get a real defensive coordinator
Re-sign Moss and pair him with Britt
Super Bowl
Of course none of that will happen but hey we can dream.
Verner is good, Mcourty is good and Cort is still good
Im telling you, Verner is gonna be a helluva ball hawk when he gets more expierence and gets used to the game, LB core needs good coverage players.
Verner = Pro Bowl
Dave Ball + Jason Jones + Tony Brown + Jason Babin = Unstoppable

Also...anyone kinda feel we need an owner who is willing to win a championship instead of just the money?
All he cares about now is getting a Super Bowl win

what do u guys think of making a trade for kolb?
Im watching the game right now and just thinking..as long as vick is healthy..kolb is not leaving the bench.
I love Vince..but I’m just saying hypothetically if things go south with him the rest of the season..

There is no way the Eagles are giving up Kolb
But if Kolb did come here, I wouldn’t have a problem with him starting over Vince.

I say wait at least another week
before you all starting to talk about trading vy and getting a qb in the first round next year…yes he was bad last game but he is playing well this season, and we are still 5-4 still have a good shot at the division why are some of you talking like this season is over and we need to start thinking about the next one?
