Tennessee Titans Morning Links: The Ben Roethlisberger/Vince Young Double Standard Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 I didn't see last week's Ben Roethlisberger interview in full (mostly because I don't like smarmy douchecanoes), but this site asks a startlingly good question: How come no one said peep when Ben Roethlisberger admitted he contemplated giving up football while he was suspended, yet Vince Young got blasted from all corners of the Earth when he said the same thing? You throw that point on top of this quip and I've just found a new weekly must-read:

The Big Ben and Steelers supporters will state that there wasn't enough evidence to go to trial. Two things I will say to that, 1) Grow up 2) Pacman Jones wasn't charged either but you were probably the same people running him out of the league.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Jason Jones is still so viciously underrated largely because he hasn't stayed healthy enough to develop a track record you can point to. Jones has another shoulder injury he's dealing with now, but it's not a repeat of the one that cost him almost all of last year (he appeared in 7 games, but was only really playing at full throttle in 2 or 3 of them). Jones has been adamant that this one isn't nearly as bad and won't slow him down on Sunday, but it's definately something to watch. Best case scenario is that he keeps blowing up the middle of the line and chasing QBs towards Ball and Babin until he can rest up over the bye week in 10 days.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Titans haven't had a problem with illegal hits in the secondary or helmet-to-helmet penalties/fines, yet they're taking the new rules handed down by the league very seriously. Having watched this coaching staff and these players though, they'll be fine just doing what they have been doing.

Jump!

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 David Boclair previews the Titans vs. Eagles with a bullet list of tid-bits, including this gem:

• [The Titans] have outscored the opposition by at least 12 points in every quarter this season. The biggest difference is in the first, where it is 20 points (33-13).

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Chris Johnson has never faced the Eagles defense before, but more importantly, they've never seen CJ's speed in person. While that sounds nice in a newspaper headline, it didn't really work against the Broncos or Giants, did it?

Tennessee_titans_30x21 More Alterraun Verner love:

The Titans rank 28th in Defensive DVOA against #1 receivers, eighth against #2 receivers, and they're the best defense in the NFL against other receivers who aren't tight ends or running backs. If you want the name of a sleeper reason why, and a player to watch for the rest of the season, check out rookie cornerback Alterraun Verner. The fourth-round pick out of UCLA already has two interceptions and has deflected seven passes -- he's consistently around the ball.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 David Weinberg of PressOfAtlanticCity.com catches up with Myron Rolle to find out how he's dealing with being on the Titans' practice squad. Per usual, he has some great answers.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Don Banks gives his early picks for the year-end awards, and doesn't see a Titan worth considering.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Philly.com breaks down this week's game. You have to be one hell of a homer to pick the Eagles' defensive line over the Titans'... just saying.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Eagles special teams coach Bobby April discusses Marc Mariani being a complete pimp.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Despite being smart enough to pick us over the Eagles, Peter King must have written this sentence while wearing a drool bib and taking a break from his coloring book:

... even if Vince Young has to give way to Kerry Collins. In fact, after watching the Monday-nighter, that might be better for Tennessee.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 If you hear an ambulance go by anywhere in America, it's probably a good bet that it's headed for the Colts facility given what they've seen over the past few days.

well...back to the bench he goes...if this is true...

I mean when is he going to realize he has to grow and be a man??? WHAT are you doing at a club past 2 AM? Aint nothing good open but McDonalds and a pair of legs after 2!

"He is fast, but what I like about him is he looks like one of those track guys that actually knows how to run the ball and has good vision and patience. He is not just running at top speed. He knows when to use his speed, and he has some power and toughness, too.'' Barry Sanders about CJ2K

And this brings us back to the question I've asked many times...

do we draft for talent….or….character? And…every once in a while…we get lucky…and we get both…like Verner & Mariani!!

by titansfan4ever on Oct 22, 2010 10:30 AM CDT up reply actions

He's what, 26? & filthy rich...of course he's in the club

who cares if he’s out that late. nobody’s complaining about CJ being out that late(he was there too). As long as a player doesnt get in a fight, or get caught DUI, then no one cares.

We dont even realize how often these guys are out this late. All across the leauge.

I was looking at the Sports Writer end of the year awards...

and…that’s funny…Don “numb nutts” Banks’ name isn’t even a blimp on the radar (not to mention Peter “crap for brains” King’s name is TOTALLY absent from the list).

by titansfan4ever on Oct 22, 2010 10:26 AM CDT reply actions

I think it'd also be of interest to note that

while Vince contemplated leaving the game due to being depressed over being injured and having a bad game, Roethlisberger was contemplating leaving over how he’d be perceived in the wake of revelations that in all likelihood he’s a rapist. Just sayin’…

I don't know about that...

but…he sure does need to get his “TV fixed” alot!!!

People ask why Kenny Britt was out....

But you don’t ask why the reporter was out at the strip club! LOL Obviously he was trying to get some of those pairs of open legs!

we were VERY clear that it was a developing rumor and very unclear.

This confuses me

We’re better than what?

BBS posted a rumor that Dallas Clark was hurt that he got from a mainstream source that turned out to be true. Apparently he posted a rumor about Peyton being hurt that he would not disclose the source on.

We posted a “rumor” from a mainstream source that has now turned out to be true.

What have we done wrong?

reasonably sourced and relevant. I mean of course we’re not running the kind of crap that’s on message boards, etc. Joe Dubin is a well-known reporter in town, so if he starts going with a story, I give him credence.

I'm saying if this is suppose to be a site to support...

then why make your players look like crap all the time, wait until it’s clear news then post, is a couple of hours to get the story straight going to kill anyone? Seems like this site downs our players more than they compliment them! Kenny Britt is one of our main threats but how often do he praise that? But soon as he does one small thing then people are all giving their opinions and downing the guy! Mess is backwards! Who’s more important the reporter just trying to make a penny off a story or one of our top wideouts?

by datboybevans on Oct 22, 2010 1:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Just to add to this...

with that being said! How come we have one of the top 5 offenses and defenses in the league, but nobody seems to know who’s on our roster making plays? But they always seem to know when someone has some of the smallest most common issues around! How about start putting information like how many sacks our players have, and our team stats and such, and stop waisting time on all the negative news!

by datboybevans on Oct 22, 2010 1:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Then why do you read Music City Miracles?

by datboybevans on Oct 22, 2010 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions

You know...

I really wasn’t going to comment here anymore, but I couldn’t resist this time around.

Really, guys? Just because there’s someone else who states the fact they don’t like how some people are “accentuating the negative” around here doesn’t mean they’re related to me.

I understand you don’t agree with him, and you didn’t agree with me.

But I don’t understand why anyone that doesn’t sit down and keep their mouth shut about not liking the overly-negative people on here gets ridiculed and practically run out of the blog because of it.

It's a site for fans who support the team

but lets not confuse that for a cheer-leading section. This is a site for people who want the best for the Titans and who aren’t satisfied by the MSM coverage. There’s always a wide range of responses to every story, and we welcome damn near all of them.

Who said this is supposed to be a site to support?

This is a fan site that is run by a few Titans fans. I happen to be one of those fans. Being a fan means different things to different people. To me it doesn’t mean being a cheerleader. It means cheering like crazy for the team on the field, but objectively looking at things that happen between games. Sorry if that is not the kind of site you came here looking for, but it isn’t ever going to change as long as my name is at the top of the post.

ATV won’t win DROY unless he has 8+ INTs.

The double standard

I had that same thought during the draft this year, when all the talking heads were questioning Myron Rolle’s “commitment to the game” after he said that he wanted to go to medical school after his professional career was over. Meanwhile, St. Timothy of Tebow had repeatedly said that his mission work is his #1 priority, yet no one ever questioned his commitment to football. It’s a stupid question either way.

"In Greek mythology the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well that football field out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans."

by GoldnI on Oct 22, 2010 1:50 PM CDT reply actions

Dude this site

has a surprisingly objective view of the events concerninig the Titans and the NFL, and if you think this site has too much negativity your either taking things out of context or your just lost. Joy Kat is usually the negative one (only concerining Vince really) but we’ve grown accustom to it and expect it . Other than that I have no idea what your talking about.
Go Titans!

"Joy Kat is usually the negative one"...

Yes, but there’s several other people that could come across as negative just by the way they debate and/or shred people’s comments to tiny little pieces. (rothbard, gramsey, I’m looking at you guys.)
