2008 Draft Review
Just wanted to point out some of the ha-ha's from the 2008 draft class (you know the one). I figured since we're going to start speculating very soon on who is good and who is garbage, we should review what the "experts" were saying about our number one draft pick.
Pat Yasinskas starts out our jouney into the past after the jump.
Most surprising move: Tennessee Titans. Johnson is undersized and may be nothing more than a third-down back. Johnson is explosive and could provide a nice complement to White, but you don't draft complementary players in the first round.
This was actually the first analysis that I found, and it's comparatively not so damning as the others.
ESPN Draft Tracker had the following to say:
[Chris Johnson] is a reach in our opinion. At 197 pounds, there are concerns about Johnson's ability to take the kind of pounding NFL running backs endure. He's also not great between the tackles and has had fumble issues. Johnson can also make an impact in the kickoff return game.
The SI Film Room said we drafted CJ to be a kick returner. ORLY?
Johnson is undersized compared to most feature backs in the NFL, and he won't break a lot of tackles or push piles. Chris Johnson is most valuable as a situational running back and kick returner.
Finally, I thought I should include some random dude's assessment, since, you know, random dudes. "Armin" ranks us at the top of the Top 5 Worst Drafts:
Ouch. For the third straight year, the Titans selected a running back in the first two rounds of the draft. Not to mention, Chris Johnson was on no one's radar as a 1st-round draft pick before the combine. If that's not a red flag, then I would like to know what is. Defensive end Jason Jones and WR Lavelle Hawkins may very well be the keys to any value being reaped out of this draft for Tennessee.
Double points for claiming Hawk was the better pickup btw.
So, just remember, the next time you're bored at work and you read that we're going to be drafting Brian Price or Everson Griffen, just laugh and try to relax until April. In fact, you probably know more than Mel Kiper.

Good point
I wasn’t sure what to think about the pick, but then again I don’t get paid to pay attention to these things like the analysts do.
Just take what they say with a giant grain o’ salt if you want to keep hold of your sanity this draft season.

Agree with 1st comment
I think in that year I was hoping they would pick DeSean Jackson, and I was pretty annoyed with CJ’s pick too. I had never even heard of him back then. Strange times huh?
But now, I don’t think any of us are against that pick are we? :)

I was upset at first with that pick, too…
… but after a minute I said to the other people I was watching the draft with “I hope they know what the ‘f’ they are doing”.
Uhmm, I think they did indeed, don’t you?
I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...

I've learned to never question their decisions
in regards to the draft. I was jonesing back in 2006 with the thought of having Matt Lienart on our team and to have him reunited with Norm Chow. It would have been a USC love-fest along with Fisher but I had to settle with LenDale White and in hindsight they made the right call.

I was like
what the hell, why did we pick him, we have LENDALE!?
I remember feeling bad for LenDale too, because I took it as the coaches didn’t think he could/would get the job done.

hate to say it but...
i knew it all along! i remember seeing one ridiculously eye poppingly good stat. 408 YARDS FROM SCRIMMAGE IN ONE GAME! this was against boise state in the 07 hawai’i bowl. i just remember thinking “wow, this guy is nuts, think of how amazing it would be to draft him in the 2nd or 3rd round.” and then they picked him in the first…i was pretty excited but i was wondering “was this a reach in the first?” “could we have gotten him in the second?”
now all ive got to say is who cares where we got him?
