Championship Picks (3-1 Last Week)

See who I picked for the Super Bowl week.

Star-divide

New York Jets @ Indianapolis Colts

I pick the Colts.

As we all know, the Jets had a stellar week last week on defense against the Chargers, but don't expect them to do it against Seyton Peyton Manning. Peyton has been the highest rated player in the NFL for multiple years and has proven why he has had so many years as MVP. Peyton can pick apart any defense at any given moment without turnovers. He has lots of young receivers to throw to, including Dallas Clark who is his favorite target. The Colts have a good defense that really tackles well. I can foresee the Jets beating the Chargers, but not Colts, especially with a rookie QB. The Jets will have to force turnovers and not let turnovers happen on offense to win and I don't think that will happen. I'm going with the Colts.

Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints

I pick the Saints.

OK, this one is by far the hardest one to pick in the playoffs so far for me. I love the Saints and their high flying offense, but I want to see Brett make another Super Bowl. So I had to do my analysis. The Saints defense was stellar last week against the Cardinals and allowed two touchdowns. The Vikings on the other hand, allowed no TDs. That itself in the playoffs is more than great. The offense of the Saints of course had a day and a half scoring 45 points and the Vikings with Favre scored 34 points. It's safe to say that they can both score and the game will be decided by offense and I believe that the Saints will have the edge.

Not so fast

I’ve predicted the Jets to lose the past two weeks, and they’ve won. The Jets probably hvae the best 3-4 denfense I’ve seen since the Ravens were young, a defense that stellar can at least throw a wrench in Peytons plans (cause we all know who runs that offense) not allowing him the luxury of setting in the pocket for a day and a half. They have been doing a good job of moving Sanchez out side the pocket were he plays his best, and Indy doesn’t play well when the QB leaves the pocket. I HATE the Colts but dispite this I’m picking them (Read inbettween the lines and you’ll see why.)

Two errors in this.

One. The Saints did not play the Cowboys, they played the Cardinals.
Two. The Saints defense was not so good last week. Especially against the run. The Saints gave up nearly 7 yards per carry against the Cardinals, and if I was a betting man I would say the Vikings are a much better rushing team than the Cardinals. Don’t forget the Vikings are better on defense as well, which mean a closer game in terms of score and more opportunities to run.

Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
