Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Fire Sale Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Cortland Finnegan has his eye set on a mighty big prize next year: the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.  He's adding that as motivation this off-season as he prepares to enter next season doing something he hasn't done before: cover the opposition's best receiver no matter where they line up.  After being limited to his one side his entire time as a Titan, Cortland, and the defense itself, should finally be ready to make that switch.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Congrats to Chris Hope, who was honored as the Grand Marshall of the MLK Jr. Parade in his hometown of York, Pennsylvania.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Bud Adams will probably hold a fire sale this off-season, but it'll be in Houston, not Nashville, after one of his car dealerships caught fire yesterday afternoon.  No one was injured in the two-alarm blaze.

Follow us through the jump for more linky goodness...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The NY Jets can look back at a lot of fluky breaks that helped get them to the AFC Championship, but perhaps none are more fluky than Ryan Mouton's two muffed kick returns earlier this year.  That one regular season win was the difference between sitting at home being .500 and making the playoffs.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 PFW rocked the world last week by speculating that Nick Harper most likely won't be back for the Titans in 2010.  While this isn't new news, it's definitely nice to hear again.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 If you wanted to root against the Saintsyou finally have a reason.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The San Diego Chargers gave head coach Norv Turner a 3-year contract extension for doing the exact same thing they fired Marty Schottenheimer over.

How awesome would it be

if the Jets beat the team that gave them a playoff spot?

it would be miserable

because I hate Mark Sanchez more than life itself. Say what you will of Manning (and i do), but at least he earns his praise. The Jets are winning IS SPITE of Sanchez and yet he is “playing like a poised veteran leader!” WHY?? Because he didnt set himself on fire at midfield or forget which side side to hand the ball off???

Yeah.

I’m not crazy about either of these teams winning.
I’m pretty much already on board with whoever wins the NFC.

The only advantage of a Colts win is the likelihood of a letdown next season, not to mention some departures for big bucks by players who’ve “gotten their ring.”

He's not acting that way, though.

I mean, he can’t help what the talking heads are saying. I’d LOVE to see the Colts lose. It’s kind of a mixed bad, though, because I’d also LOVE to see Rex Ryan take a beating.

I actually think this game matches up about as well as it could for the Jets. They have two power backs against an undersized D-Line, and a shutdown corner to take care of Reggie Wayne. If they can manage turnovers, I think this allows them to control the pace of the game and use close to 40 minutes of the clock.

But I decided it wasnt a battle worth fighting. Everybody thinks coaches control everything and are like puppeteers controlling the players.

seriously

our defense drags our lousy offense to the playoffs and we lose 17-6 to a great offensive team. in other words, “we were who we thought we were.”

I can't stand the Jets

I don’t wanna see the gushing over Mark Sanchez if they reach the SP, at least with Manning I kind come accustomed to love fest by the media, beside he is really good. Imagine Rex Ryan hoisting the trophy, thinking it could be a giant taco with extra chilli, being a smart ass, please Colts spare from that scene.

I'm on the Saints bandwagon, now.

They’re too much fun to watch, and Drew Brees went to my high school. I think they have the best shot to win it all. Unlike the Colts who are really one dimensional, the Saints can sling it around AND run the ball well.

by SuperHorn on Jan 19, 2010 10:25 AM CST up reply actions

Yikes! Those Run-D stats...

…make me think we’re gonna have the worst of all possible futures: Manning vs. Favre. A no-win media shitstorm.

I'm still personally disappointed that we won't get to see Brees win the SB...

…and then use the trophy to beat Phillip Rivers to death with it. And then go and take about AJ Smith and Norv Turner.

We should start the "House of un-Titan Activities" committee

Model it after Richard Nixon’s House of Unamerican Activities and accuse everybody of being traitors to the Titans cause. The list so far:
1) Jeff Fisher – wore Manning Jersey
2) Jimmy – Cheering for Rex Ryan
3) DannoE – voted for Brees over Johnson for OPOTY
4) Derrick Mason – Became a Baltimore Douchebag
5) Jim Schwartz – went to coach the Lions

Any others?

Look it up

McCarthy had nothing to do with it. Nixon was in it.

The committee’s anti-communist investigations are often confused with those of Senator Joseph McCarthy.3 McCarthy, as a senator, had no direct involvement with this House committee

Other notable members included Richard Nixon…

he’s just hoping that Rex will put out hit on Peyton like he did CJ, and send all his hitmen all game long to excute it. And hopefully have Peyton’s pampered ass sitting on a sideline bench before games end.

For me personally..

I don’t want to see either Colts or Jets make it to the SB. But since one has to, I’d prefer it be the Jets. I can’t stand Rex, but I despise Peyton more, and really don’t want him even reaching the SB. And I’d have SO much fun seeing the enormous fallout from the Colts if they lose to a team they let walk into the playoffs.

As for the NFC, I’m totally behind either team who makes it to the SB. I have reasons to support both. Although, and I may be the only one on here, but I’m pulling for old man Favre and the Vikes to win the whole thing.

Unfortunately....AND I MEAN UNFORTUNATELY.....

Nobody can stop the indy machine…but in the NFC, it’s a little different…it’s hard to bet against gray beard…on the other hand the saints aint the “aints” anymore…but since I saw Brees win one of those QB challenges…I’ll take N.O. by 3 pts. (I know that’ll make the packer fans happy, too.)

by titansfan4ever on Jan 19, 2010 3:33 PM CST reply actions

Chargers fired Marty for being tight and conservative

You can’t accuse Norv of that during the Jets game.

Completely different scenario.
