no problem with having a word with them i have not said in the world because i know in tennessee there could be some people who are more freak than me about this team
I drove 19 hours to see them one time in tennesse (this sept)and i got trashed in buffalo because i was wearing my kearse jersey and titans hat in a game the year after the music city miracle. If they can show why they beat me i will take my words back

by candian titans fan on Jan 12, 2010 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

that is the problem with mvp voting...

its more about how well your team does than, how well the individual does. it should be named mvt from now on. if the titans had the colts record, their would be no doubt CJ would get it. i mean, c’mon man, over 2000 yds? what more do you have to do to get the mvp award. sadly CJ likely wont.

by TitansFanForever on Jan 12, 2010 2:05 PM CST reply actions

That's like saying if John McCain would have beat Barack Obama...

then he’d be president right now. It didn’t happen. The Titans didn’t start 14-0, they started 0-6, and if you look at CJ’s yards in those games, the totals weren’t impressive.

Granted, they didn’t make the effort to get him the touches they did after the bye, but you can’t just ignore 1/3 of the season when comparing the two.

by back2smashmouth on Jan 12, 2010 2:17 PM CST up reply actions

in case you forgot...

he ran for something like 180 yards and had something like 80 receiving yards in the game we lost to houston…so the totals were pretty impressive…
and im pretty sure he was the leader in yards all through the “dark days” as well.

With Peyton Manning, the Colts make the playoffs. Without Peyton Manning, the Colts don't make the playoffs.

With or without Chris Johnson—the Titans don’t make the playoffs.

Chris Johnson had a better individual season than Peyton, but he was not able to propel his team into the playoffs (thanks to bad overrated coaching). It is an individual award, but you are more valuable when you make your team better than someone else makes their team.

Except, without Manning they still win games.

Without CJ, we go 0-16. I firmly believe that is more valuable than the colts going 8-8 instead.

I don't believe for one second that the Colts win without Peyton

But even if they were to win some, they still don’t make the playoffs.

I would vote for Peyton because he is more valuable to his team having a better season. You take CJ off of the Titans, and we win less games, but we are still sitting at home right now.

The OPY will surely be CJ, and he deserves it, as he had one of the best seasons (and I think the best) ever by a running back.

for the record

we don’t know what painter could do with all the weapons at his disposal. they didn’t just pull peyton. the pulled wayne, clark, and more. they threw him to the lions against the best defense in the league without any talented skill players to give him a fighting chance.

Good point, but I still refuse to think that Painter takes that team to the playoffs.

You really think CJ deserves this over Peyton? You are usually the sane one around here.

im very conflicted over this one

i don’t have a real solid answer of who should win, and i hate the MVP award in general because it is so fuzzy and subjective.

i don’t see why winning games by a the skin of your teeth at the end makes you more valuable than winning by 20. i also refuse to buy into the idea that a single player gets credit for wins in football, the ultimate team sport. it was wrong when that was the meme about brady, and though it’s less wrong with peyton, it’s still wrong on a logical level.

when you look at peyton’s stats, nothing pops out at you like other seasons he has had. chris johnson had an historic season. the same can be said for brees and his 70% completion rate in that style of deep passing attack. peyton barely broke 2:1 TD/INT, one of the most (if not the most) important individual qb stats. he was less accurate than brees, even though brees had a far superior yds/attempt number. peyton also had a lot more to work with than rivers, who i think wins the “subtract him and what do you have” (flawed) argument among qbs this season. hell, when you just look at stats, manning and schaub are insanely similar, yet talking about schaub for mvp would be entirely laughable.

when you look at this season and this season only, there are several qbs all crammed together at the top, and so the fact that manning won it running away tells me that a lot of it was the fact that peyton is peyton, not necessarily because he vastly outperformed everyone else. so there were a ton of evenly matched qbs this year, which indicates that passing defenses were generally over-matched this season around the league. yet cj absolutely demolished every other RB in the league and set the biggest record a non-qb can set, all during a season where running the ball was down across the league. it’s hard to compare two different positions, but if you look at league trends this season, i don’t think there is anyway to say that CJ didn’t have the more impressive season as an individual.

"i hate the MVP award in general because it is so fuzzy and subjective"

I agree completely.

And I also agree that CJ had a much better individual year than Peyton. That is why he will be the Offensive Player of The Year.

I second that

With these kind of awards there is always a good argument for another player to win it. Few times there is a clear choice, this year was not different.

Okay, I voted for CJ because I am biased and cannot think rationally in a poll like this. And I hate Peyton Manning.

by Drubaru on Jan 12, 2010 2:29 PM CST reply actions

All of these teams would be worthless

without the above player on their team. So the question is “which player’s team’s current regular season record would have been most negatively effected by the listed player not being with the team this year?” The Saints and the Colts both won several games with last minute freak accidents involving their defense and/or special teams so that has nothing to do with Brees or Manning. I might figure the Titans would have still beaten Buffalo, San Fran, Jac, St Louis and Seattle without CJ …5-11 not much different than 8-8. Favre struggled for the 3 games scheduled right around the time MVP voting was being concluded so that knocked him out…. but I’d say it should have been between Favre and Rivers. I’ll go Rivers since Favre has won it 3 times already.
