Comcast to Sponsor MCM for the Rest of the 2009 Season

Rz_medium

Comcast has decided to sponsor several of the SB Nation NFL blogs, one obviously being MCM, for the rest of the 2009 season.  They are doing this in an effort to get the word out about their new Red Zone channel.  They know that the best way to get their message out to NFL fans is through the SB Nation family.

The concept behind the Red Zone channel is pretty cool as smash will attest.  Basically they cut to any game where a team is inside the 20 yard line.  This enables you to see basically every touchdown that is scored in every game.  It is a great alternative for those people who do not have DirecTV.

The best news of all is that Comcast is offering the Red Zone channel for free this Sunday from 12-3:15 central time.  Check your local listings for the channel number in your area.

You don't have to worry about this blog turning into a 24 hour a day commercial for Comcast.  This will be the only post solely devoted to Comcast.  I just wanted to get the word out there that they were on board as a sponsor, and let you know about the free preview this weekend.  Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

The thing that's so great about RedZone

is that you get to see a highlight reel of the games while they are live. No longer will you ever miss watching a big play and have to go to YouTube to watch it for the first time. This channel is awesome.

Not to take a dump on your sponser

But I just looked it up because I actually wanted to buy it and guess what? Unless I am going about it incorrectly, you can’t get the freaking thing without also having to pay for College basketball (irrelevant until march), tennis (irrelevant), and soccer (gay) channels as well, and it is really, really expensive. WHY CAN’T I JUST BUY ONE CHANNEL!?!?!?!

it's a busness tactic

the only way to make providing certain less desirable channels profitable is if you package them with channels everyone wants. this was essentially what was at the heart of the nfl network dispute. nfl network wanted to be in the basic digital cable tier and comcast wanted to keep it in the separate sports tier so that more people would pay more for the special package.

in short it’s how they make money.
