My 2009 NFL Predictions
Last season I went through the Titans schedule before the season started and predicted how the Titans would do. Most people called me crazy, and if I remember correctly, one person even went so far to say he would "crap himself" (You know who you are. We have yet to see proof) if the Titans started 7-0. They started 10-0, in case you don't remember.
So with that in mind, I have decided to predict all 8 divisions from top to bottom for 2009.
AFCSouth
North
West
East
NFC
South
- Falcons (9-7)
- Saints (9-7)
- Panthers (8-8)
- Buccaneers (6-10)
North
West
East
There's the list. Feel free to tell me why I am crazy and leave your list in the comments.

I think the Vikings will win the North.
I’m with you on the rest, though any order in the NFC East wouldn’t surprise me.

The Saints will win the South.
And the NFC North won’t be that strong.
Other then that i think its good.

agree with afc south
Jim miller on nfl sirius radio also picks us to take the division. It was nice to get some props on the radio finally.
Dallas will do much better this year and will goto the playoffs. Romo has three huge targets now. Witten / Bennett / Roy williams.
throw in felix jones and NO T.O.!!
I like your picks though.

Afc south
Agreed, thought I think we are 12-4,
but nfc north? bears 12-4?
They are automatically upgraded with a franchise quarterback yes… but their defense is old as hell… I see them finishing 3rd at Maybe 9-7 in the North.

I disagree
with the Cards record. That was there record last season and I think everyone in there division cept the Rams will be tougher (FYI Cards went 6-0 in their division last season) I don’t think they are as good as they looked in the playoffs.

A good list, Jimmy. Just a few notes:
1. The Texans could finish well below .500. Why is everyone on their bandwagon? They have a few good players, a lot of holes, and a BUNCH of injuries, and that’s before the season even starts. I look for them to step back this year—in a big way.
2. Ravens over Steelers. The Steelers won last year because Flacco was a rookie. This year, Sophmore QB > crappy O-Line.
3. I look for the Broncos to be TERRIBLE this year. My surprise team in the West is the Raiders.
4. No issues in the AFC East or NFC South.
5. I think I like the Packers over the Bears in the NFC North, and I’m looking for yet another late-season collapse from the Vikings. All that turmoil at QB is bad for business, man.
6. 49ers are gonna win the NFC West in a walk.
7. NFC East is a tough call. I think all the teams look pretty good right now. Not sure where to go with it from there.

AFC south
indy has an easier schedule than we do. here are the differences:
the colts play baltimore instead of pittsburgh.
the colts play the pats in Indy, the titans have to go to Foxboro.
the colts somehow only got one west coast trip to AZ, whereas the titans have to hit 2 trips to San Fran and Seattle.
the colts get the disintegrating broncos, the titans get the chargers.
i wouldn’t be surprised to see the colts and titans have the same record this season.

I agree with your basic point, but...
I think Baltimore is gonna be a MUCH better team than Pittsburgh. Also, AZ is very tough in their stadium. It’s when they’re on the road that they get murdered.
Still, having two trips out west is tough.

even still
and i’m not so sure about the pittsburgh/baltimore thing, the pats are almost unstoppable in foxboro, and the chargers may win 7-8 more games than broncos this season. also, i think the cards would be fine on the turf in indy. the old RCA dome? no. but lucas oil is supposedly a lot quieter. i think any way you look at it, indy’s non-divisional record could very well better than tennessee’s. that means we have to bring the A game to all the divisional games.

Why won't Baltimore be better than Pittsburgh?
Let’s look at some of the things that matter:
- O-Line: Unquestionably better in Baltimore.
- D-Line: Push
- QB: Push. You might give the edge to Rothlesburgher, but he holds the ball too long, and that’s not smart. At a minimum, he’s looking to miss a game with an injury. And why this talk around the ‘net of a Flacco slump? From where? The guy is GOOD. Was good all last year, noticeably matured over the course of the season, and will be better this year.
- RB: Edge to Baltimore. Paging Le’Ron McClain. We need you to punch somebody in the mouth!
- WRs: Okay, here I’ll give you Pittsburgh.
- Secondary: Push.
- LBers: Push.
So, bottom line, if you think WRs are more important than having a quality O-Line and a bruising RB to power your game, pick Pittsburgh. Otherwise, let’s all remember that running the ball and stopping the run are what generally lead to victories. Baltimore has that hands down. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh’s O-Line troubles are still very much in effect.
I agree on the rest but won’t be surprised if Indy drops that game in AZ. AZ can score just as many points, at least.

pittsburgh
is essentially the same team that beat baltimore 3 times last season. baltimore lost it’s defensive coordinator and a couple starters on defense. the ravens also let lorenzo neal go. that’s really bad karma for any running game. the pittsburgh passing offense is also clearly miles ahead of the ravens. i know that titans fans are always leery of the ravens, but i think in general most teams would rather see them than the steelers.

Well, time will tell.
Maybe it’s just the way the teams match up with the Titans specifically rather than the actual talent level. All I know is that the Titans looked GREAT against Pittsburgh last year but struggle with the Ravens every time they show up.

Why do you love Flacco so much?
He was average. One might think you love the ravens….

AFC West
i think jimmy has the broncos way overrated. I’m fully expecting them to fight it out with the chiefs for worst team in the AFC. in fact, if you switch the raiders and broncos up there i think i would agree. i bet the raiders at least get into striking distance of .500. for most teams the “head coach breaking the assistant coach’s jaw” would be worrisome, but in oakland it’s probably a good thing.

Hal, I am with you.
Broncos win 3 games this year. 4 if Knowshon Moreno turns into a stud.
