Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Apparently Hackville Has A Newspaper Edition
Nice to see the Tennessean towing the company line. I think we all know Jeff Fisher won't 'think' about changing QBs until 2 minutes before he does it... mainly because he knows how to manage people and realizes that it's pointless to undermine them. Jimmy and I discussed it on MCM Radio, but it bears repeating: Jeff Fisher doesn't say anything with you or I in mind. All he cares about are protecting his players and winning games. So, please, don't read too much into any of his answers because at times like these they may not alway mean what they seem to mean... and I'd expect better from the guys who cover the Titans every day than to just eat Fisher's missives up by this point.
Case in point that backs-up my previous assertion: we're now actively auditioning returners. Guys like Justin Miller and Roderick Hood make the most sense as they give us another body in the depleted secondary.
Jared Cook has been extremely limited by his ankle injury so far this season, but barring any set-backs the coaches are planning on greatly expanding his role in the offense... mainly because he's a stud and a match-up nightmare.
Follow us through the jump to see last week's most unfortunately timed article...
I'm pretty sure PFW regrets running this gem last week, wherein they describe Special Teams coach Alan Lowry thusly:
Known for being one of the more innovative special-teams coaches in the league, Lowry has regularly fielded kick and return units that produce top-10 finishes in most categories.
I don't think Jim Wyatt is a commenter on MCM, but he sure could be these days.
Teresa Walker is right: neither the team, or coaches or even we fans can have time to worry about more than this week. Just win this game, and good things will grow.
Lawyer and former agent Robert Boland takes a look at the David Givens lawsuit, and ends up with mostly the same questions we had.
T-Rac's Posse is bringing the pain these days.
I'm almost surprised this guy didn't blame our poor start on the Terrible Towel.

I can't help myself
Jim Wyatt gives Kerry a pass for the last two games, but basically calls him responsible for the Pittsburgh loss. You’re doing it wrong, Jim. I think you have it backwards.
I agree completely.
And along the lines of what Jimmy said, Wyatt’s returned both emails I’ve sent him, always with some well-thought-out thing I’d not considered before the fact.
DannoE
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
That's good feedback Danno.
I’ll do it.
And, for the record, I’m really not interested in arguing anymore. I just thought that Jim Wyatt was way off base on this one.
I traded emails with Jim
There was no “well thought out” thing. Only, that he doesn’t think Kerry is a problem.
Well, what can I say to that.
Sorry it didn’t work out, but at the same time, he’s probably seen the same emailed question 500 times this week alone.
DannoE
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
Jim Wyatt will continnue...
…..giving Collins a pass until the Titans are 0-16! Quarterbacks always catch the heat when they lose, what makes this time no different. Bud Adams, step in anytime!
MrDeeboi33
The only way we see Vince a second time..
….is the same way we saw him the first time: Bud is going to have to step-in and demand to see what he’s got.
Fisher would have started KC all sixteen games in 2006, given the choice. Remember, this is the same coach who did not want to draft Steve McNair (wanted Kevin Carter – all you Oilers fans remember this?), and then sat him for an extraordinary amount of time while the team did little to nothing under Kerry Collins’ twin, Chris Chandler.
Kerry Collins will start every game this year and next year if Fisher has his way – and possibly one additional year after that. The ONLY way we’ll get to see what Vince has to offer is if Bud requires it. If it’s up to Fisher and this team is 0-13 — Collins will start the 14th game. That’s just Jeff Fisher.

FYI
Just because someone thinks everyone else should have to stop talking about the QB situation, doesn’t mean they are going to stop talking about it.
Sorry, Coach Fisher, it’s not going away. But it’ll be interesting to see how you pack Bud’s stadium at 1-5 with Vince still on the bench…….

GREAT!
Let’s keep arguing about it with the same words over and over. That helps it all get sorted out. I am sure Jeff Fisher and Bud Adams read this site daily and are swayed by the fantastic discussion that goes on about who should play QB.
Keep talking about it. It is very productive.

Which is awesome. Who wants him to go away? You realize he’d have another job before the ink was dry on his severance papers, right?

Me too.
I’m just saying, the one very good QB he stumbled onto was a guy he never wanted to draft or play.
Other than that, he’d have been fine starting Chandler until time gave way to Collins – and then when we eventually sign Marc Bulger in two years…………….

Pacman
Vince Young

Well considering
QB play and special teams play are a couple of the reasons why we’re dead last in the AFC I think those may be things people want to talk about. I wasn’t suggesting we call up Pacman, I just threw it out there to hear opinions on pros and cons. A hypothetical discussion if you will. I don’t follow every forum or every discussion board to know that it had been played to death. My bad.
The problem is
it’s the same argument over and over and over and over. We can discuss VY, but it always disentegrates into a name-calling idiocy fest that just leaves everybody feeling dirty.

I just threw out Pacman for shits and giggles because the search for a kick returner came up.
I didn’t mention VY, nothing more to say there. Both camps have made it abundantly clear where they stand on that.
I’m here to have good conversations with fellow fans. If I wanted to argue and get pissed off I’d call my friends up (all Texans, Steelers, & Cowboys fans).

TRac
I’ve had it up to here with people saying how good he is. You’re all blind. That is like the wort mascot ever. I mean, it’s an embarrassment. Not even the XFL would have had a mascot like that. It’s a wonder their halftime show doesn’t include him scrounging in a giant trash-can for scraps. A 7 foot tall costumed Titan with a big plastic sword would be a hundred times better, and the stats prove it. So all you blind TRac supporters just stop posting your ill-thought out crap on my favorite blog.

DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW COOL T-RAC IS?!?!?!?!
The dude is a walking raccoon!!!!! He also has had his picture taken with SEVERAL Titans cheerleaders. How many pictures do you have with cheerleaders? On top of that, he knows he doesn’t make any sense whatsoever and still goes out there head held high.
This mascot literally ran a golf cart into an opposing player who talked bad about the Titans and him and ruined that players career. NAME ME ANOTHER MASCOT THAT HAS EVER DONE THAT YOU SMARTASS DOUCHENOZZLE!!!!!!
I just get so tired of the hate T-Rac gets. He deserves so much more. He’s been there through thick and thin. He grew up in a family of 12 where they had to eat trash just to survive, and now he is the mascot of a better-than-average NFL team. You think Vince Young had it rough growing up? This raccoon has seen and done things you and I could never imagine.
Take your mascot hate over to the Tennessean comments section where it belongs, buddy!

You're clearly
ignorant of the Football WayOutsider stats for MMQ (Mascot Misqueues) and MRLs (Mascot related litigations). In these and other categories T-RAC trails the league. And anybody can have their picture taken with a Titans cheerleader, that proves nothing. Just because he came from lowly origins is no excuse for his continued thuggish behavior. I clearly saw him goosing cheerleaders in a preseason game, which offended my on several fronts (not least of which being it wasn’t me doing the goosing). He’s gotta go.
hal will be along shortly with the BOOYAH STATS
from the FWO guys. That will put this to rest once and for all.
I am so tired of this argument. It’s the same thing all the time and it never ends well.

because of how RIDICULOUS this is! Keep in mind that Football WayOutsiders predicted Blue, the Indianapolis Colts mascot, as best in the league. LOOK AT HIM! He looks like he has down syndrome (just like their Quarterback)!!!

OK, but
yesterday’s tirades that you didn’t like started with a scholarly discussion of KC’s performance. So, if we had argued about KC’s performance without mentioning the current back-up QB, then that would have been OK. Is that right?
by JimR on Sep 29, 2009 11:46 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions
So........
that means that we can’t mention KC,either because that effectively is a reference to you-know-who. And, since Jimmy was the one who started the post about KC yesterday in the first place, then he should ban himself. Right??
by JimR on Sep 29, 2009 11:59 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions
All kidding aside
it is difficult to have a complete conversation about the position of QB without talking about the backup, but that – unfortunately – seems to lead to a reply of the same old arguments. I do agree it would be much better if we discuss all the QBs without all the replays.

I’d love to have a “scholarly discussion” with you about Kerry. But, I think it’s probably a waste of both of our times considering you thought Collins “played well” on Sunday.
Let me remind you that
Coach Fisher agrees with me. KC played well. There. I said it again.
by JimR on Sep 29, 2009 2:18 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I would disagree with it but it would at least make sense if you said
KC didnt play well, but the coaches are at fault for putting him in bad situations and the offensive gameplan being so inept, but to say straight up “he played well”? Nothing in the statline backs that up.

I clarified my statement yesterday
to say that he played well “under the circumstances”, and I think that is similar to what you (T-Rac) are saying.
by JimR on Sep 29, 2009 2:31 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Please explain what circumstances should cause any QB to post a QB rating of 25 in the 4th quarter after 3 games.
You're asking me to repeat what I said
yesterday, but the two biggest “circumstances” in the second half were receivers dropping catchable balls and protection against the blitz breaking down too fast.
by JimR on Sep 29, 2009 2:57 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Even in light of all that.
He posted a ZERO QB rating in the 4th quarter. It would have been negative if the system allowed it like college does.
There is no way you can honestly defend that. Hell, I’ll even throw in 5 free completions. That makes him 5/10 with a pick. Still awful.
And, there is a reason teams don’t bring the house against guys like Brady and Manning. It leaves such a huge void for check downs. Where were the slants and the dump offs to the RBs? A little of that is on the coaching staff, but I can promise you that Kerry has the ability to audible to a quick slant or dump off. Blitzing isn’t a legitimate excuse. Every quarterback sees it. And, the good ones make you pay.
but whenever you rate any players performance
you have to ask “as compared to what (or whom)”, and we don’t seem to be able to conduct that discussion without incurring the wrath of MCM management. So, this is all I’m going to say on this topic. I understand if you don’t agree, but there’s no more to say.
by JimR on Sep 29, 2009 4:28 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
We don't need to compare him to our backup.
Compare him to the rest of the league. He’s in the bottom 5. The question isn’t: is he playing better than the backup? It’s, “is he playing well?” And, the answer is unequivocally no.
Because MCM management
has every actually shut down a conversation like that before….wait, no, no they haven’t.
I can’t believe people want threads and threads and threads of Collins vs. Vince. Well I am a man of the people, so by all means, please continue posting the same fanpost over and over about why Vince should be playing.

Anyone else think that
our most missed player from last season so far this season is Chris Carr and not Haynesworth? Given how good our run defense has been and how dreadful our return game and secondary have been. Maybe this is overboard, but it’s worth pointing out at least for the irony of it.
